A note on Friedmann equation of FRW universe in deformed Horava-Lifshitz gravity from entropic force
With entropic interpretation of gravity proposed by Verlinde, we obtain the
Friedmann equation of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe for the deformed
Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity. It is shown that, when the parameter of
Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity , the modified Friedmann
equation will go back to the one in Einstein gravity. This results may imply
that the entropic interpretation of gravity is effective for the deformed
Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity.Comment: 9 pages, no figure
Horava Gravity and Gravitons at a Conformal Point
Recently Horava proposed a renormalizable gravity theory with higher
derivatives by abandoning the Lorenz invariance in UV. Here, I study the Horava
model at , where an anisotropic Weyl symmetry exists in the UV
limit, in addition to the foliation-preserving diffeomorphism. By considering
linear perturbations around Minkowski vacuum, I show that the scalar graviton
mode is completely disappeared and only the usual tensor graviton modes remain
in the physical spectrum. The existence of the UV conformal symmetry is unique
to the theory with the detailed balance and it is quite probable that
be the UV fixed point. This situation is analogous to
, which is Lorentz invariant in the IR limit and is believed to be
the IR fixed point.Comment: Added comments and references, Accepted in GER
Fuzzy BIon
We construct a solution of the BFSS matrix theory, which is a counterpart of
the BIon solution representing a fundamental string ending on a bound state of
a D2-brane and D0-branes. We call this solution the `fuzzy BIon' and show that
this configuration preserves 1/4 supersymmetry of type IIA superstring theory.
We also construct an effective action for the fuzzy BIon by analyzing the
nonabelian Born-Infeld action for D0-branes. When we take the continuous limit,
with some conditions, this action coincides with the effective action for the
BIon configuration.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figure, reference and note adde
The absence of the Kerr black hole in the Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity
We show that the Kerr metric does not exist as a fully rotating black hole
solution to the modified Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity with
and case. We perform it by showing that the Kerr metric does not
satisfy full equations derived from the modified HL gravity.Comment: 35 pages, no figure
Extremal black holes in the Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity
We study the near-horizon geometry of extremal black holes in the
Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity with a flow parameter . For ,
near-horizon geometry of extremal black holes are AdS with
different radii, depending on the (modified) Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity. For
, the radius of is negative, which means
that the near-horizon geometry is ill-defined and the corresponding
Bekenstein-Hawking entropy is zero. We show explicitly that the entropy
function approach does not work for obtaining the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of
extremal black holes.Comment: 18 pages, v2:some points on Lifshitz black holes claified, v3:

Slowly rotating black holes in the Horava-Lifshitz gravity
We investigate slowly rotating black holes in the Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz (HL)
gravity. For and , we find a slowly rotating black
hole of the Kehagias-Sfetsos solution in asymptotically flat spacetimes. We
discuss their thermodynamic properties by computing mass, temperature, angular
momentum, and angular velocity on the horizon.Comment: 12 pages, no figures, version to appear in EPJ
Dyons in Nonabelian Born-Infeld Theory
We analyze a nonabelian extension of Born--Infeld action for the SU(2) group.
In the class of spherically symmetric solutions we find that, besides the
Gal'tsov--Kerner glueballs, only the analytic dyons have finite energy. The
presented analytic and numerical investigation excludes the existence of pure
magnetic monopoles of 't Hooft--Polyakov type.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figure
Yang-Lee and Fisher Zeros of Multisite Interaction Ising Models on the Cayley-type Lattices
A general analytical formula for recurrence relations of multisite
interaction Ising models in an external magnetic field on the Cayley-type
lattices is derived. Using the theory of complex analytical dynamics on the
Riemann sphere, a numerical algorithm to obtain Yang-Lee and Fisher zeros of
the models is developed. It is shown that the sets of Yang-Lee and Fisher zeros
are almost always fractals, that could be associated with Mandelbrot-like sets
on the complex magnetic field and temperature planes respectively.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures; with minor correction
Is manganese-doped diamond a ferromagnetic semiconductor?
We use density-functional theoretical methods to examine the recent
prediction, based on a mean-field solution of the Zener model, that diamond
doped by Mn (with spin S=5/2) would be a dilute magnetic semiconductor that
remains ferromagnetic well above room temperature. Our findings suggest this to
be unlikely, for four reasons: (1) substitutional Mn in diamond has a low-spin
S=1/2 ground state; (2) the substitutional site is energetically unfavorable
relative to the much larger "divacancy" site; 3) Mn in the divacancy site is an
acceptor, but with only hyperdeep levels, and hence the holes are likely to
remain localized; (4) the calculated Heisenberg couplings between Mn in nearby
divacancy sites are two orders of magnitude smaller than for substitutional Mn
in germanium.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Expanded Strings in the Background of NS5-branes via a M2-brane, a D2-brane and D0-branes
Classical configurations of a M2-brane, a D2-brane and D0-branes are
investigated in the background of an infinite array of M5-branes or NS5-branes.
On the M2-brane, we discuss three kinds of configurations, such as a sphere, a
cylinder and a torus-like one. These are stabilized by virtue of the background
fluxes of M5-branes. The torus-like M2-brane configuration has winding and
momentum numbers of 11th direction, and in terms of the type IIA superstring
theory, this corresponds to a torus-like D2-brane with electric and magnetic
fluxes on it. We also reproduce the same configuration from a non-abelian
Born-Infeld action for D0-branes. It will be a construction of closed strings
from D0-branes. An electric flux quantization condition on the D2-brane is also
discussed in terms of D0-branes.Comment: 33 pages, 6 figures, references and footnote added, confusing
