A study of effective Web advertising design to maximize click-through and brand awareness

    Get PDF
Technological developments provide important opportunities to advertisers and marketers can now reach large masses of people more efficiently through a variety of media. Web advertising has become widely known as an efficient and effective communication tool, and it is fast becoming the medium for mass communication in the advertising industry. Despite the Web\u27s capability to be a potentially powerful medium for advertising, few research studies have been conducted regarding the effectiveness of visual communication in Web advertising compared to other advertising media. Generally, there are two main purposes for Web advertising: (a) build a brand, or (b) conduct direct marketing. Brand advertising associates the positive qualities or emotions with a company\u27s product or service, while direct marketing attempts to stimulate a direct sale. Visual design elements need to be formulated that specify exactly which advertising objectives are being targeted. The primary objective of this study was to develop a method to analyze the components of Web design elements and communication styles in banner advertisements to enable Web advertising designers to maximize the effectiveness of Web advertising. The research found that click-through and brand-reinforcement design elements have both a comparative and inverse relationship. The findings demonstrate that a higher level of click-through ad design is associated with lower brand-reinforced ad design. Similarly, a higher level of brand-reinforced design is associated with lower click-through. The researcher presented a typology to be used as guidelines to determine the effectiveness of Web advertising design to maximize click-through and brand-reinforcement. Most studies on Web advertising have been conducted primarily on click-through behavior. Since many demands are based on the importance of brand-reinforcement in Web advertising, this study does provide some groundwork in this field. Therefore, further study in this area is strongly recommended

The efficacy of preoperative PET/CT for prediction of curability in surgery for locally advanced gastric carcinoma

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The benefits of preoperative 18FDG-PET/CT for gastric cancer remain uncertain. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of preoperative 18FDG-PET/CT on the surgical strategy for locally advanced gastric cancer retrospectively.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>From January 2007 to November 2008, 18FDG-PET/CT was performed in 142 patients who had been diagnosed with advanced gastric cancer by computed tomography or gastrofiberscope findings.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Detection rates were 88.7% (126/142) for primary tumors and 24.6% (35/142) for local lymph nodes (LN). Nine patients with metastatic lesions underwent induction chemotherapy without operation. Of 133 patients subjected to operation, positive FDG uptake in primary tumors (<it>p </it>= 0.047) and local lymph nodes (<it>p </it>< 0.001) was related to non-curable operations. The mean standard uptake value (SUV) of primary tumors of patients who underwent non-curable operations was significantly higher than that of patients with curable operations (<it>p </it>= 0.001). When the SUV was greater than 5 and FDG uptake of LN was positive, non-curable operations were predicted with a sensitivity of 35.2%, a specificity of 91.0% and an accuracy of 76.7%.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>High SUV of the primary tumor and positive FDG uptake in local lymph nodes at PET/CT could predict non-curative resection in locally advanced gastric cancer. Therefore, information from preoperative PET/CT can help physician decisions regarding other modalities without laparotomy.</p

Five new wood decay fungi (Polyporales and Hymenochaetales) in Korea

The wood decay fungi are a diverse taxonomic group that plays a pivotal role in forest carbon cycling. Wood decay fungi use various enzymatic pathways to digest dead or living wood in order to obtain carbon and other nutrients and these enzymatic systems have been exploited for both industrial and medical applications. Over 600 wood decay fungi species have been described in Korea; however, the recent application of molecular markers has dramatically altered the taxonomy of many of these wood decay fungi at both the genus and species levels. By combining molecular methods, specifically sequences of the internal transcribed spacer region, with traditional morphological characters, this study identified five new species records for Korea in five genera: Aurantiporus, Favolus, Neofavolus, Loweomyces, and Hymenochaetopsis. Three of these genera (Aurantiporus, Favolus, and Loweomyces) were previously unknown in Korea. The relatively simple morphology of the wood decay fungi often leads to ambiguous taxonomic assignment. Therefore, molecular markers are a necessary component of any taxonomic or evolutionary study of wood decay fungi. Our study highlights the need for a more robust and multifaceted approach in investigating new wood decay fungi in Korea.OAIID:RECH_ACHV_DSTSH_NO:A201619724RECH_ACHV_FG:RR00200003ADJUST_YN:EMP_ID:A078617CITE_RATE:DEPT_NM:생명과학부EMAIL:[email protected]_YN:CONFIRM:

Estrogen receptor-α gene haplotype is associated with primary knee osteoarthritis in Korean population

Estrogen and estrogen receptors (ERs) are known to play important roles in the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis (OA). To investigate ER-α gene polymorphisms for its associations with primary knee OA, we conducted a case–control association study in patients with primary knee OA (n = 151) and healthy individuals (n = 397) in the Korean population. Haplotyping analysis was used to determine the relationship between three polymorphisms in the ER-α gene (intron 1 T/C, intron 1 A/G and exon 8 G/A) and primary knee OA. Genotypes of the ER-α gene polymorphism were determined by PCR followed by restriction enzyme digestion (PvuII for intron 1 T/C, XbaI for intron 1 A/G, and BtgI for exon 8 G/A polymorphism). There was no significant difference between primary knee OA patients and healthy control individuals in the distribution of any of the genotypes evaluated. However, we found that the allele frequency for the exon 8 G/A BtgI polymorphism (codon 594) was significantly different between primary knee OA patients and control individuals (odds ratio = 1.38, 95% confidence interval = 1.01–1.88; P = 0.044). In haplotype frequency estimation analysis, there was a significant difference between primary knee OA patients and control individuals (degrees of freedom = 7, χ(2 )= 21.48; P = 0.003). Although the number OA patients studied is small, the present study shows that ER-α gene haplotype may be associated with primary knee OA, and genetic variations in the ER-α gene may be involved in OA

Clear-Cell Meningioma: CT and MR Imaging Findings in Two Cases Involving the Spinal Canal and Cerebellopontine Angle

Clear-cell meningioma is a rare subtype of meningioma which occurs at a younger age and has a higher recurrence rate than other subtypes. We report two cases of clear-cell meningioma, one in the thoracolumbar spinal canal and the other in the cerebellopontine angle. Though the CT and MR imaging findings were not different from those of ordinary meningioma, after surgical removal the condition recurred repeatedly in the patient with spinal canal involvement
