    Fast Marching based Rendezvous Path Planning for a Team of Heterogeneous Vehicle

    A formulation is developed for deterministically calculating the optimized paths for a multi-agent system consisting of heterogeneous vehicles. The essence of this formulation is the calculation of the shortest time for each agent to reach every grid point from its known initial position. Such arrival time map can be readily assessed using the Fast Marching Method (FMM), a computational algorithm originally designed for solving boundary value problems of the Eikonal equation. Leveraging the FMM method, we demonstrate that the minimal time rendezvous point and paths for all member vehicles can be uniquely determined with minimal computational concerns. To showcase the potential of our method, we use an example of a virtual rendezvous scenario that entails the coordination of a ship, an underwater vehicle, an aerial vehicle, and a ground vehicle to converge at the optimal location within the Tampa Bay area in minimal time. It illustrates the value of the developed framework in efficiently constructing continuous path planning, while accommodating different operational constraints of heterogeneous member vehicles

    Segment-Based Wall Treatment Model for Heat Transfer Rate in Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics

    In this study, a smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) model that applies a segment-based boundary treatment is used to simulate natural convection. In a natural convection simulated using an SPH model, the wall boundary treatment is a major issue because accurate heat transfer from boundaries should be calculated. The boundary particle method, which models the boundary by placing multiple layers of particles on and behind the wall boundary, is the most widely used boundary treatment method. Although this method can impose accurate boundary conditions, boundary modeling for complex shapes is challenging and requires excessive computational costs depending on the boundary shape. In this study, we utilize a segment-based boundary treatment method to model the wall boundary and apply this method to the energy conservation equation for the wall heat transfer model. The proposed method solves the problems arising from the use of boundary particles and simultaneously provides accurate heat transfer calculation results for the wall. In various numerical examples, the proposed method is verified through a comparison with available experimental results, SPH results using the boundary particle method, and finite volume method (FVM) results

    Innovative Wireless Power Receiver for Inductive Coupling and Magnetic Resonance Applications

    This chapter presents a wireless power receiver for inductive coupling and magnetic resonance applications. The active rectifier with shared delay-locked loop (DLL) is proposed to achieve the high efficiency for different operation frequencies. In the DC–DC converter, the phase-locked loop is adopted for the constant switching frequency in the process, voltage, and temperature variation to solve the efficiency reduction problem, which results in the heat problem. An automatic mode switching between pulse width modulation and pulse frequency modulation is also adopted for the high efficiency over the wide output power. This chip is implemented using 0.18 μm BCD technology with an active area of 5.0 mm × 3.5 mm. The maximum efficiency of the active rectifier is 92%, and the maximum efficiency of the DC–DC converter is 92% when the load current is 700 mA

    Increasing trend in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in Korea from 2004 to 2015

    Background To determine the 12-year incidence of and trends in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) requiring surgery in Korea. Methods This was a nationwide, population-based, retrospective study. We identified 53,179 patients with incident RRD requiring surgery using the Korean National Health Claims Database from 2004 to 2015. We estimated the crude incidence rates and age- and sex-standardized incidence rates per 100,000 person-years in each year during the study period. A joinpoint regression analysis was performed to determine the trend. Results The average annual incidence rate was 9.78 (95% CI: 9.70–9.86). Male patients showed an incidence rate (10.68 [95% CI: 10.57–10.80]) 1.20 times that of female patients (8.87 [95% CI: 8.76–8.98]). The incidence showed a bimodal distribution; the highest peak was in the 60–64 year age group (23.77 [95% CI: 23.18–24.35]) and the second peak was in the 20–24 year age group (7.68 [95% CI: 7.41–7.95]). An increasing trend of RRD incidence was observed in the total population throughout the study period using joinpoint analysis (annual percentage change [APC], 2.05; 95% CI: 0.7–3.4). The increasing trend was more prominent among individuals aged under 50 years (APC, 3.44; 95% CI: 2.3–4.6), while among those aged 50 years or above, the increasing incidence was observed only in male patients. Conclusions In Korea, the incidence of RRD has increased recently.     Experimental Study on Fire Resistance Performance of a Hollow Slab Using a Lightweight Hollow Sphere

    This study evaluates the fire resistance performance (1–2h) of a reinforced concrete (RC) structure-void slab using a lightweight hollow sphere, which can reduce the unnecessary dynamic of removing the central concrete. For this experiment, we set up the depth of the concrete cover, live load, and span length as the factors. The result comes out with 50 mm cover depth of the RC structure hollow slab secured. It was shown that 120 minutes of fire resistance performance can be secured regardless of the length of the structure and loading. Among these factors, the resisting capability changes more sensitively with the live load rather than the thickness of cover. The shorter span in length could assure better fire resistance performance

    Experimental Study on the Fire Resistance Performance of Prestressed Composite Beam with Corrugated Web under Standard Fire with Loading Condition

    In this study, fire resistance tests were performed on a conventional slim floor beam and a prestressed composite beam with corrugated webs, which is suitable for a long-span structure with a reduction in story height by utilizing the prestress and accordion effect. In the fire test program, the ISO 834 standard fire curve was adopted. Key test variables were the effect of prestress, shape of corrugated webs, and thickness of sprayed fireproofing material. All of the test specimens demonstrated enhanced fire resistance performance exceeding the expected performance level. The prestressed composite beams with corrugated webs especially showed excellent fire performance, considering these specimens had thin fireproofing thickness compared to the conventional slim floor specimen
