    Get PDF
Medicinally important plant species, Adhatoda vasica belonging to the family Acanthaceae was selected for the present investigation in order to study the comparative effects of traditional as well as non-traditional growth regulators. The traditional growth regulator selected was IBA and non-traditional one was Hexaconazole and triadimefon. Antioxidant enzymes activities like SOD, APX and CAT were estimated from control as well as treated plants. The activities of antioxidant enzymes like SOD, APX and CAT were increased with TDM, HEX and IBA treatments in Adhatoda vasica plants. The enhancement was significant on all sampling days. These preliminary results prove TDM and HEX as potential growth regulators which can be used to enhance the antioxidant properties of Adhatoda vasica, thereby make it an economically valuable medicinal plant

    Get PDF
Triadimefon and hexaconazole are triazole group of fungicides have plant growth regulating properties. The present investigation aimed to study the growth regulating effect of these compounds on sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.). Each plant was treated with one litre of aqueous solutions containing 15mg L-1 triadimefon and 10mg L-1 hexaconazole on 40 and 70 days after planting (DAP) by soil drenching. The growth parameters of the plants were estimated on 45, 60, 75, 90 and 105 DAP.  Among the triazole, hexaconazole inhibited the number of leaves, total leaf area, stem length, internodal length, leaf and stem dry weight, relative shoot growth rate significantly when compared to triadimefon.  Triazole (chiefly available and plant control and yield production) treatments increase the root length, root and tuber dry weight, relative tuber growth rate, net assimilation rate root/shoot ratio, leaf dry weight per unit area, chlorophyll and carotenoid content

Brush Plated Copper Gallium Sulphide Films and their Properties

    Get PDF
Copper gallium sulphide films were deposited for the first time by the brush plating technique at different electrolyte temperatures in the range of 30°C - 80°C and at a constant deposition current density of 5.0 mA cm-2. X-ray diffractograms of the films are single phase with chalcopyrite structure. EDAX measurements indicated that the Cu/Ga ratio decreased from 1.29 to 1.00 as the electrolyte temperature increased from 30°C - 80°C. The grain size increased with increase of electrolyte temperature. The grain size increases from 100 nm to 300 nm as the electrolyte temperature increases

Weaving ‘figured - face flip face - fabric’ using orthogonal weft tapestry weave

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to evolve new compound weave structures by modifying and permuting the existing structures. Basic principles of orthogonal structure and weft tapestry structure have been studied. New ‘Orthogonal Weft Tapestry (OWT)’ weaves are evolved by combining these two weaves and the concepts involved in deriving the new weave have also been developed. The structure of ‘Two in one’ figured fabric available in the field has been analyzed. This fabric is renamed as ‘Figured - Face Flip Face - Fabric (FFFFF)’. Suitability of OWT weave to produce diversified FFFFF has been interpreted. Superimposing the guide graphs for the preparation of weave graph has been worked out using MS Paint to weave this fabric using electronic jacquard. Methodology of making double punching graph for mechanical jacquard weaving is also explored. The feasibilities of weaving these structures are explored using heald-treadle and jacquard shedding devices either separately or in combination. Fabric samples have been developed using mechanical jacquard in handloom. The techno - ergonomics of weaving methods are compared and recorded. It is observed that FFFFF produced with OWT weave has got features like uniqueness in appearance, fascinating utility value, and possibilities of producing exclusive product range

    Get PDF
An investigation was carried out to reveal the changes in the concentration of soluble carbohydrates under tuber dormancy in food yam (Dioscorea esculenta) tubers and in an economically important spice cum medicinal plant turmeric (Curcuma longa) rhizomes under storage. Harvested, fully matured tubers of yam and rhizomes of turmeric were stored in wooden boxes under the conditions of 28 ? 2?C temperature and 65 to 75% relative humidity in dark. The moisture content, dry weight, starch, sugars, organic acids and respiration were studied in the tubers during 1 to 7 weeks after storage individually. This investigation revealed that the moisture content, dry weight and starch levels decreased gradually with a concomitant increase in sugar content under different stages of dormancy

Weaving twill damask fabric using ‘section- scale- stitch’ harnessing

    Get PDF
The possibility of weaving figured twill damask using the combination of ‘sectional-scaled- stitched’ (SSS) harnessing systems has been explored. Setting of sectional, pressure harness systems used in jacquard have been studied. The arrangements of weave marks of twill damask using the warp face and weft face twills of 4 threads have been analyzed. The different characteristics of the weave have been identified. The methodology of setting the jacquard harness along with healds has been derived corresponding to the weave analysis. It involves in making the harness / ends in two sections; one section is to increase the figuring capacity by scaling the harness and combining it with other section of simple stitching harnessing of ends. Hence, the new harness methodology has been named as ‘section-scale-stitch’ harnessing. The advantages of new SSS harnessing to weave figured twill damask have been recorded. It is observed that the new harnessing methodology has got the advantages like increased figuring capacity with the given jacquard, less strain on the ends and versatility to produce all range of products of twill damask. It is also found that the new harnessing is suitable to weave figured double cloth using interchanging double equal plain cloth, extra warp and extra weft weaving

    Get PDF
The research was performed to define the effect of water deficit on early growth, biomass allocation and biochemical constituents, proline metabolism and yield of five varieties of bhendi (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench.) plants. We found that there were significant differences in early growth, dry matter accumulation, biochemical constituents and proline metabolism among the five varieties. The root length, shoot length, total leaf area, fresh weight and dry weight were significantly reduced under drought-induced stress treatment. The proline content and g-glutamyl kinase were significantly enhanced and proline oxidase activities were reduced. Drought stress caused an increase in the free amino acid and glycinebetaine content

Controlled drug delivery of diltiazem hydrochloride as transdermal patches: a novel approach on formulation evaluation in vitro and in vivo parameters

    Get PDF
A significant effort was done to formulate transdermal patches (Paranjothi 1998) of Diltiazem Hydrochloride (DH), a benzothiazepine calcium channel blocker, mainly meant for the treatment of hypertension, chronic stable angina pectoris; by using hydroxy ethyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose and Eudragit RLPO. Six batches of transdermal patches were prepared by solvent casting technique in which the best formulation was found out. The polymers HEC, EC and Eudragit RLPO were incorporated with Diltiazem Hydrochloride in various proportions, out of which the best formulation on the ratio [HEC: EC: EUDRAGIT RLPO-1:1:2] with the drug was determined. The prepared transdermal patches were spherical, uniform in shape and white in color. The obtained transdermal films were evaluated for physico-chemical characteristics, in vitro release profile and in vivo evaluation in albino mice. Higuchis plot studies revealed that the predominant mechanism of drug release was diffusion
