Influence of early haulm killing of seed crops on subsequent sprouting, physiological ageing and tuber yield
Get PDFThe production of healthy and high yielding seed potatoes is closely related to the control of virus diseases and to other cultural practices, like those modifying the physiological age of tubers. Seed crops from cv. Bonaerense La Ballenera MAA, were defoliated early in 3 seasons, 1983/84, 84/85 and 85/86. After harvest, the seed tubers were stored in heaps in the field and, later, their sprouting capacity and physiological age, and their tuber yield were evaluated. Results showed that early haulm killing did not affect these variables nor diminish the quality of the seed potatoes obtained.Instituto de Fisiolog铆a Vegeta

Get PDFEl objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar los efectos del prebrotado (PB) y de la defoliaci贸n anticipada (DA) sobre el rendimiento, ia duraci贸n del per铆odo de dormici贸n absoluta, la brotaci贸n y la edad fisiol贸gica de tub茅rculos "semina" del cv. Bonaerense La Ballenera MAA. Los ensayos se condujeron en la Chacra Experimental de Miramar en 1986/87, 1987/88 y 1988/89. Los tub茅rculos se conservaron luego de la cosecha en "pilas en el campo" y un mes antes de la plantaci贸n se prebrotaron en cajones, bajo un tinglado, a la luz natural difusa, protegidos por una malla anti谩fidos. Las plantaciones se realizaron en forma manual el 5 y 11 de Noviembre y 1 de Diciembre de cada a帽o, respectivamente. Las plantas originadas de los tub茅rculos prebrotados y sin prebrotar se defoliaron anticipadamente con paraquat al aparecer los primeros 谩fidos en las bandejas-trampa, en tanto que en otro tratamiento se dej贸 morir al follaje naturalmente.The objective of this work was to determine the effect of presprouting (PB) and early haulm killing (DA) upon yield, lenght of the absolute dormant period, sprouting and physiological age of seed potato tubers of cv. Bonaerense La Ballenera MAA. Field trials were carried out during 1986/87, 1987/88 y 1988/89 at the Chacra Experimental de Miramar. Seed tubers were stored in heaps in the field and one month before planting they were presprouted under a shelter in trays under natural diffuse light, protected by an antiaphid mesh. Planting were done between 5th and 11th November and 1st December, each year. Early haulm killing with paraquat was carried out upon the presprouted and non-sprouted material when the first aphids appeared on Moericke traps, meanwhile the other treatment was allowed to die naturally.Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias y Forestale
