Computer-aided Reverse Engineering for Rapid Replacement of Parts
Indigenous product development using conventional means involves a relatively long leadtime and cost, especially for replacing worn out and broken parts. This paper presentsmethodologies and technologies for computer-aided reverse engineering, illustrated by a reallifecase study of an aluminium alloy separator body of a hydraulic filter assembly for the specialarmy vehicle. It involved reconstruction of part geometry using 3-D scanning, materialidentification using spectrometry, casting process optimisation using simulation software, andfabrication of prototype and tooling using rapid prototyping systems. It was found that thefabrication of wax patterns directly from reverse-engineered CAD data in a suitable rapidprototyping system (such as thermojet), followed by conventional investment casting, gives areliable and economic route for rapid development of one-off intricate parts for the replacementpurpose
Nothing but Relativity, Redux
Here we show how spacetime transformations consistent with the principle of
relativity can be derived without an explicit assumption of the constancy of
the speed of light, without gedanken experiments involving light rays, and
without an assumption of differentiability, or even continuity, for the
spacetime mapping. Hence, these historic results could have been derived
centuries ago, even before the advent of calculus. This raises an interesting
question: Could Galileo have derived Einsteinian relativity
SU(16) grandunification: breaking scales, proton decay and neutrino magnetic moment
We give a detailed renormalization group analysis for the SU(16) grandunified
group with general breaking chains in which quarks and leptons transform
separately at intermediate energies. Our analysis includes the effects of Higgs
bosons. We show that the grandunification scale could be as low as GeV and give examples where new physics could exist at relatively low
energy ( GeV). We consider proton decay in this model and show that
it is consistent with a low grandunification scale. We also discuss the
possible generation of a neutrino magnetic moment in the range of to
with a very small mass by the breaking of the embedded

A Multi-Phase Transport Model for Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions
We describe in detail how the different components of a multi-phase transport
(AMPT) model, that uses the Heavy Ion Jet Interaction Generator (HIJING) for
generating the initial conditions, Zhang's Parton Cascade (ZPC) for modeling
partonic scatterings, the Lund string fragmentation model or a quark
coalescence model for hadronization, and A Relativistic Transport (ART) model
for treating hadronic scatterings, are improved and combined to give a coherent
description of the dynamics of relativistic heavy ion collisions. We also
explain the way parameters in the model are determined, and discuss the
sensitivity of predicted results to physical input in the model. Comparisons of
these results to experimental data, mainly from heavy ion collisions at the
Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), are then made in order to extract
information on the properties of the hot dense matter formed in these

Statistics of leading digits leads to unification of quantum correlations
We show that the frequency distribution of the first significant digits of
the numbers in the data sets generated from a large class of measures of
quantum correlations, which are either entanglement measures, or belong to the
information-theoretic paradigm, exhibit a universal behaviour. In particular,
for Haar uniformly simulated arbitrary two-qubit states, we find that the
first-digit distribution corresponding to a collection of chosen computable
quantum correlation quantifiers tend to follow the first-digit law, known as
the Benford's law, when the rank of the states increases. Considering a
two-qubit state which is obtained from a system governed by paradigmatic spin
Hamiltonians, namely, the XY model in a transverse field, and the XXZ model, we
show that entanglement as well as information theoretic measures violate the
Benford's law. We quantitatively discuss the violation of the Benford's law by
using a violation parameter, and demonstrate that the violation parameter can
signal quantum phase transitions occurring in these models. We also comment on
the universality of the statistics of first significant digits corresponding to
appropriate measures of quantum correlations in the case of multipartite

Quantum Discord in a spin-1/2 transverse XY Chain Following a Quench
We report a study on the zero-temperature quantum discord as a measure of
two-spin correlation of a transverse XY spin chain following a quench across a
quantum critical point and investigate the behavior of mutual information,
classical correlations and hence of discord in the final state as a function of
the rate of quenching. We show that though discord vanishes in the limit of
very slow as well as very fast quenching, it exhibits a peak for an
intermediate value of the quenching rate. We show that though discord and also
the mutual information exhibit a similar behavior with respect to the quenching
rate to that of concurrence or negativity following an identical quenching,
there are quantitative differences. Our studies indicate that like concurrence,
discord also exhibits a power law scaling with the rate of quenching in the
limit of slow quenching though it may not be expressible in a closed power law
form. We also explore the behavior of discord on quenching linearly across a
quantum multicritical point (MCP) and observe a scaling similar to that of the

Calculation of parity nonconserving amplitude and other properties of Ra+
We have calculated parity nonconserving 7s - 6d_{3/2} amplitude E_PNC in
223Ra+ using high-precision relativistic all-order method where all single and
double excitations of the Dirac-Fock wave functions are included to all orders
of perturbation theory. Detailed study of the uncertainty of the parity
nonconserving (PNC) amplitude is carried out; additional calculations are
performed to estimate some of the missing correlation corrections. A systematic
study of the parity conserving atomic properties, including the calculation of
the energies, transition matrix elements, lifetimes, hyperfine constants,
quadrupole moments of the 6d states, as well as dipole and quadrupole ground
state polarizabilities, is carried out. The results are compared with other
theoretical calculations and available experimental values.Comment: 10 page
CP-violating Majorana phases, lepton-conserving processes and final state interactions
The CP-violating phases associated with Majorana neutrinos can give rise to
CP-violating effects even in processes that conserve total Lepton number, such
as \mu -> eee+, \mu + e -> e + e and others. After explaining the reasons that
make this happen, we consider the calculation of the rates for the process of
the form \ell_a + \ell_b -> \ell_a + \ell_c, and its conjugate \bar\ell_a +
\bar\ell_b -> \bar\ell_a + \bar\ell_c, where \ell_a, \ell_b and \ell_c denote
charged leptons of different flavors. In the context of the Standard Model with
Majorana neutrinos, we show that the difference in the rates depends on such
phases. Our calculations illustrate in detail the mechanics that operate behind
the scene, and set the stage for carrying out the analogous, more complicated
(as we explain), calculations for other processes such as \mu -> eee+ and its

A Combination Theorem for Metric Bundles
We define metric bundles/metric graph bundles which provide a purely
topological/coarse-geometric generalization of the notion of trees of metric
spaces a la Bestvina-Feighn in the special case that the inclusions of the edge
spaces into the vertex spaces are uniform coarsely surjective quasi-isometries.
We prove the existence of quasi-isometric sections in this generality. Then we
prove a combination theorem for metric (graph) bundles (including exact
sequences of groups) that establishes sufficient conditions, particularly
flaring, under which the metric bundles are hyperbolic. We use this to give
examples of surface bundles over hyperbolic disks, whose universal cover is
Gromov-hyperbolic. We also show that in typical situations, flaring is also a

Measuring the cosmological lepton asymmetry through the CMB anisotropy
A large lepton asymmetry in the Universe is still a viable possibility and
leads to many interesting phenomena such as gauge symmetry nonrestoration at
high temperature. We show that a large lepton asymmetry changes the predicted
cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy and that any degeneracy in the
relic neutrino sea will be measured to a precision of 1% or better when the CMB
anisotropy is measured at the accuracy expected to result from the planned
satellite missions MAP and Planck. In fact, the current measurements already
put an upper limit on the lepton asymmetry of the Universe which is stronger
than the one coming from considerations of primordial nucleosynthesis and
