Unitarity of the tree approximation to the Glauber AA amplitude for large A

The nucleus-nucleus Glauber amplitude in the tree approximation is studied for heavy participant nuclei. It is shown that, contrary to previous published results, it is not unitary for realistic values of nucleon-nucleon cross-sections.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figure, 1 table. Submitted to Yad. Fi

Fluctuations of the number of participants and binary collisions in AA interactions at fixed centrality in the Glauber approach

In the framework of the classical Glauber approach, the analytical expressions for the variance of the number of wounded nucleons and binary collisions in AA interactions at a given centrality are presented. Along with the optical approximation term, they contain additional contact terms arising only in the case of nucleus-nucleus collisions. The magnitude of the additional contributions, e.g., for PbPb collisions at SPS energies, is larger than the contribution of the optical approximation at some values of the impact parameter. The sum of the additional contributions is in good agreement with the results of independent Monte Carlo simulations of this process. Due to these additional terms, the variance of the total number of participants for peripheral PbPb collisions and the variance of the number of collisions at all values of the impact parameter exceed several multiples of the Poisson variances. The correlator between the numbers of participants in colliding nuclei at fixed centrality is also analytically calculated.Comment: updated version; as published by Phys. Rev.

Growth of ITO Films by Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition Method

Growth of ITO films on glass substrate by modified CVD method in quasi closed space with separate evaporator for formation of saturated vapor phase is investigated. The growth rate of ITO films was an order 0,5-1,0 micron/hour it is several times above than for conventional spray-pyrolysis in similar conditions. The lattice absorption spectra of fabricated ITO films shown that materials grown in temperature interval 170-500?C have identical structure, have no inclusions of secondary phase and uniform. IR absorption band in the range of 2500-3800 cm-1 which amplitude has correlation with conductivity of ITO films is found out

Increase the strength characteristics of polymer films by radiation graft polymerization

The possibility of increasing the strength characteristics of polymer films based on polyethylene and polyamide by radiation graft polymerization was investigated. Two methods of graft polymerization (direct method and the method of polymer mixtures cross-linking) on the PMMA films surface were studied. The possibility of increasing the strength and elasticity of polymeric films by radiation modification of polymethyl methacrylate was shown

Sorption properties of radiation-cross-linked polymer hydrogels containing ion-exchange fibers

Polymer hydrogel modification for soft contact lenses by ion-exchange fibers was studied in this work. The obtained results showed that the ion-exchange fiber modifiers have a number of advantages as compared with ion-exchange resin modifiers

Ultimate parameters of the photon collider at the ILC

At linear colliders, the e+e- luminosity is limited by beam-collision effects, which determine the required emittances of beams in damping rings (DRs). While in gamma-gamma collisions at the photon collider, these effects are absent, and so smaller emittances are desirable. In present damping rings designs, nominal DR parameters correspond to those required for e+e- collisions. In this note, I would like to stress once again that as soon as we plan the photon-collider mode of ILC operation, the damping-ring emittances are dictated by the photon-collider requirements--namely, they should be as small as possible. This can be achieved by adding more wigglers to the DRs; the incremental cost is easily justified by a considerable potential improvement of the gamma-gamma luminosity. No expert analysis exists as of yet, but it seems realistic to obtain a factor five increase of the gamma-gamma luminosity compared to the ``nominal'' DR design.Comment: Talk at LCWS06, Bangalore, India, March 2006, to be published in Indian Journal of Physics, 5 pp, Latex, 1 .eps figur
