    ii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to begin by acknowledging my mother, Melinda Rose Cain who has always been a positive role model. She has always motivated me to pursue my life goals without letting fear get in the way. She has been my source of comfort during times of difficulty and has encouraged me to remember the importance of spirituality and my relationship with God. I would like to thank my father, John Warren Cain, who has motivated me to pursue this research project. He always encouraged me to do my best and be true to myself.
