A three-year field experiment with maize was carried out on fluvisol. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of biochar on maize yield at different levels of water stress and its effect on the amount of soil microorganisms. The following variants were studied: control with no biochar addition, and variants with biochar. Biochar was applied in 2 t/ha in 2016, produced by pyrolysis of rice straw, then in 3 t/ha in 2017 and 10 t/ha in 2018, both obtained by pyrolysis of oak bark. These variants were divided into three more depending on the irrigation regime: i.e. non-irrigated, irrigation at dT>0 Β°C, and irrigation at dT0 ΠΈ ΠΏΠΎΠ»ΠΈΠ²Π΅Π½ ΠΏΡ€ΠΈ dT<-1. The administration of an excessive amount of or unnecessary drugs is a prerequisite for numerous drug-related problems, non-compliance, non-adherence to medicinal therapy, exacerbation and poor control of chronic diseases, and failure in achieving the treatment goals. The aim of this study was to assess patients’ awareness on drug use (administration, adherence to drug therapy) and to identify the possible drug-related problems with patients, using 5 or more medicines on Bulgarian territory. The data were collected implementing a structured study tool – a questionnaire for assessment of patients’ therapy using 5 or more drugs prescribed by a physician, including OTC and/or food supplements. The study provided an identification of factors affecting skipping of doses, modification of regime and analyzed the relationships and interdependencies between number of diagnoses and adverse drug effects rate; number of administered drugs and reported problems and unawareness of the medicinal product indications and health state. The results showed that it was necessary to introduce the Medication Review (MR) service in Bulgarian pharmaceutical practice. That will provide possibilities for development of pharmacists’ role in dispensing medical products, it will help in reducing drug-related problems and increasing the effectiveness of the treatment and adherence to medical therapy

Distribution of AC Contact Network Electric Field Strenght

No full text
To provide the stock electromagnetics compatibility is a serious problem with the contemporary development of the railway transport and implementation of lines for connection. The AS contact system is on of the main equipment of the electrify railway transport that implements the electrical connection between the traction substations and the roiling stock. But it is also one of the main sources of interference due to the presence of its strong electromagnetic field. The paper present an distribution of electric intensity by contact system

Genetics, Plant Breeding and Seed Production 45 th Croatian & 5 th International Symposium on Agriculture 490 Release of 'Pagane' bush type garden bean

Abstract The aim of this paper is to announce the release of β€—Pagane', a new garden bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivar, developed for either fresh consumption, or shipping and processing at Maritsa Vegetable Crops Institute, Plovdiv, Bulgaria. -Paganeβ€– is our respond of the demands of consumers for garden bean culinary quality and demands of farmers for stable yield and better product value. Plants have determinate upright growth habit; pods are green, flat, high carrying, with very good organoleptic and biological value and appearance. β€—Pagane' has high yield potential along with multiple resistances to economically important bean pathogens-Halo blight, BCMV, ClYVV, White mold, Rust and Bean weevil

Assessing Social and Economic Impacts Associated with Changes in the Coal Mining Industry in the Bowen Basin, Queensland, Australia

No full text
Purpose - The coal mining industry makes a key contribution to the Queensland economy, and is the underlying driver of employment and economic conditions in many local and regional communities. This article aims to focus on how the social and economic impacts of mining should be assessed and negotiated with local and regional communities. Design/methodology/approach - The following assessment tools were trialed to ascertain the impacts on communities of changes in the mining industry: extended stakeholder analysis of key community representatives; economic modeling of changes in the level of mining activity; a random survey of householders involving choice experiments to assess tradeoffs; and experimental workshops to assess how residents were prepared to prioritise different community development options. Findings - The results showed that impact assessment should be addressed using different economic and social science tools to ensure regulatory approval as well as community acceptance. Originality/value - This article suggests alternative social and economic impact assessment mechanisms that can be applied to any industry and any situation (e.g. growth, decline, new development, simultaneous changes)

Mining impacts and the development of the Moranbah township

[Extract] Executive Summary 1.This report contains an overview of research into the economic and social impacts of mining on the Moranbah community and options for future development. 2.The mining boom has stimulated a population increase in Moranbah, as well as a large non-resident workforce (estimated at 4,000 people). The 'core' workforce for mines within 50 kilometres of Moranbah is expected to grow by a further 1,390 people by 2010. It has been estimated that there is potential for the town to grow by another 2,700permanent residents over the next five years. 3.Key needs that currently exist for the community include improved shopping and services, a more reliable water supply, lower cost housing, and a larger labour pool. 4.Key issues for the community in options for future development include the extent of workcamp accommodation, the security of water supplies, the price of rentals and housing, and the potential environmental impacts of future mining close to town. 5.Moranbah residents preferred the development of housing rather than work camps in their community; this value has been assessed at 3,144peryear.RespondentsindicatedthattheywouldreducetheirlengthofstayinMoranbahby2.6yearsifworkcampdevelopmentwentfromalowbasetoahighlevelofdevelopment.6.Havingasatisfactorybufferagainstfutureenvironmentalimpactsofminedevelopmentwasthenextmostimportantissue.Thevalueofavoidingfutureimpactswasassessedat3,144 per year. Respondents indicated that they would reduce their length of stay in Moranbah by 2.6 years if work camp development went from a low base to a high level of development. 6.Having a satisfactory buffer against future environmental impacts of mine development was the next most important issue. The value of avoiding future impacts was assessed at 494 per household per year. 7.The average number of years that residents expected to stay in Moranbah was approximately 8.5 years. Almost no resident planned to move to another mining town when they left Moranbah. 8.At least 80% of the non-resident workforce indicated that they did not want to live permanently in Moranbah. Key reasons related to partner and family commitments, and to preferences for living in a larger centre. 9.Mackay residents were asked about potential relocation to communities such as Moranbah. Results showed that for the average Mackay person to move to a mining town, a salary premium of $55,000 is required. A higher premium is needed to attract people to live in smaller communities. Key factors that are important in the choice of communities are the level of health and education services, availability of jobs for partners and children, and the standard of public infrastructure. 10.The level of economic activity in Moranbah is slightly lower than in other comparable towns, suggesting that there are large spending leakages from the community
