Orbital multicriticality in spin gapped quasi-1D antiferromagnets
Motivated by the quasi-1D antiferromagnet CaVO, we explore
spin-orbital systems in which the spin modes are gapped but orbitals are near a
macroscopically degenerate classical transition. Within a simplified model we
show that gapless orbital liquid phases possessing power-law correlations may
occur without the strict condition of a continuous orbital symmetry. For the
model proposed for CaVO, we find that an orbital phase with coexisting
order parameters emerges from a multicritical point. The effective orbital
model consists of zigzag-coupled transverse field Ising chains. The
corresponding global phase diagram is constructed using field theory methods
and analyzed near the multicritical point with the aid of an exact solution of
a zigzag XXZ model.Comment: 9 page
Bringing Together Gravity and the Quanta
Due to its underlying gauge structure, teleparallel gravity achieves a
separation between inertial and gravitational effects. It can, in consequence,
describe the isolated gravitational interaction without resorting to the
equivalence principle, and is able to provide a tensorial definition for the
energy-momentum density of the gravitational field. Considering the conceptual
conflict between the local equivalence principle and the nonlocal uncertainty
principle, the replacement of general relativity by its teleparallel equivalent
can be considered an important step towards a prospective reconciliation

Exact edge singularities and dynamical correlations in spin-1/2 chains
Exact formulas for the singularities of the dynamical structure factor,
S^{zz}(q,omega), of the S=1/2 xxz spin chain at all q and any anisotropy and
magnetic field in the critical regime are derived, expressing the exponents in
terms of the phase shifts which are known exactly from the Bethe ansatz
solution. We also study the long time asymptotics of the self-correlation
function . Utilizing these results to supplement very
accurate time-dependent Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG) for short

Vortices in the presence of a nonmagnetic atom impurity in 2D XY ferromagnets
Using a model of nonmagnetic impurity potential, we have examined the
behavior of planar vortex solutions in the classical two-dimensional XY
ferromagnets in the presence of a spin vacancy localized out of the vortex
core. Our results show that a spinless atom impurity gives rise to an effective

Equivalence between the Lovelock-Cartan action and a constrained gauge theory
We show that the four-dimensional Lovelock-Cartan action can be derived from
a massless gauge theory for the group with an additional BRST trivial
part. The model is originally composed by a topological sector and a BRST exact
piece and has no explicit dependence on the metric, the vierbein or a mass
parameter. The vierbein is introduced together with a mass parameter through
some BRST trivial constraints. The effect of the constraints is to identify the
vierbein with some of the additional fields, transforming the original action
into the Lovelock-Cartan one. In this scenario, the mass parameter is
identified with Newton's constant while the gauge field is identified with the
spin-connection. The symmetries of the model are also explored. Moreover, the

Utilização da uréia na alimentação de ruminantes no semi-árido.
A uréia (NHrCO-NH2) é um composto orgânico sólido, solúvel em água e higroscópico. Quimicamente classificada como amida, pertence ao grupo de compostos nitrogenados não protéicos. Os ruminantes, através de microrganismos presentes no rúmen, são capazes de transformar tanto o nitrogênio derivado da proteína verdadeira, quanto o proveniente de alguns compostos nitrogenados não protéicos, como a uréia, o sulfato de amônio e o biureto, em proteína de alto valor nutritivo. Desta forma, o uso da uréia na dieta desses animais apresenta-se como um método de economia, permitindo poupar insumos normalmente utilizados na alimentação humana e de outros animais monogástricos. A utilização da uréia tem permitido o aproveitamento de alimentos volumosos de baixa qualidade pelos ruminantes que, em condições normais, são pouco aproveitados. Portanto, a uréia pode ser incluída na dieta dos ruminantes, com as finalidades principais de substituir o nitrogênio da proteína verdadeira, visando a redução no custo da ração, ou com o objetivo de elevar o teor de nitrogênio dos volumosos de baixa qualidade, aumentando o seu consumo e aproveitamento
Consistent Gravitationally-Coupled Spin-2 Field Theory
Inspired by the translational gauge structure of teleparallel gravity, the
theory for a fundamental massless spin-2 field is constructed. Accordingly,
instead of being represented by a symmetric second-rank tensor, the fundamental
spin-2 field is assumed to be represented by a spacetime (world) vector field
assuming values in the Lie algebra of the translation group. The flat-space
theory naturally emerges in the Fierz formalism and is found to be equivalent
to the usual metric-based theory. However, the gravitationally coupled theory,
with gravitation itself described by teleparallel gravity, is shown not to
present the consistency problems of the spin-2 theory constructed on the basis

Density-density propagator for one-dimensional interacting spinless fermions with non-linear dispersion and calculation of the Coulomb drag resistivity
Using bosonization-fermionization transformation we map the
Tomonaga-Luttinger model of spinless fermions with non-linear dispersion on the
model of fermionic quasiparticles whose interaction is irrelevant in the
renormalization group sense. Such mapping allows us to set up an expansion for
the density-density propagator of the original Tomonaga-Luttinger Hamiltonian
in orders of the (irrelevant) quasiparticle interaction. The lowest order term
in such an expansion is proportional to the propagator for free fermions. The
next term is also evaluated. The propagator found is used for calculation of
the Coulomb drug resistivity in a system of two capacitively coupled
one-dimensional conductors. It is shown that is proportional to for
both free and interacting fermions. The marginal repulsive in-chain interaction
acts to reduce as compared to the non-interacting result. The correction to
due to the quasiparticle interaction is found as well. It scales as

The role of damped Alfven waves on magnetospheric accretion models of young stars
We examine the role of Alfven wave damping in heating the plasma in the
magnetic funnels of magnetospheric accretion models of young stars. We study
four different damping mechanisms of the Alfven waves: nonlinear, turbulent,
viscous-resistive and collisional. Two different possible origins for the
Alfven waves are discussed: 1) Alfven waves generated at the surface of the
star by the shock produced by the infalling matter; and 2) Alfven waves
generated locally in the funnel by the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability. We find
that, in general, the damping lengths are smaller than the tube length. Since
thermal conduction in the tube is not efficient, Alfven waves generated only at
the star's surface cannot heat the tube to the temperatures necessary to fit
the observations. Only for very low frequency Alfven waves ~10^{-5} the ion
cyclotron frequency, is the viscous-resistive damping length greater than the
tube length. In this case, the Alfven waves produced at the surface of the star
are able to heat the whole tube. Otherwise, local production of Alfven waves is
required to explain the observations. The turbulence level is calculated for
different frequencies for optically thin and thick media. We find that
turbulent velocities varies greatly for different damping mechanisms, reaching
