Pd Keywords : Reading Comprehension, Herringbone Technique, Small Group Discussion The objectives of the research is to know the effectiveness of Herringbone technique to teach reading comprehension. Herringbone technique is the technique in teaching where the student work in pairs and analyze 5W + 1H using fish diagram. In this research, the researcher uses quantitative approach that based on the result of proposing item tests to respondents of the research. Meanwhile, the method which used in this research is experimental method, here the researcher conducted test as an instrument of the research. The sample of this research is first grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Klaten in the academic year 2016/ 2017. The researcher uses cluster random sampling to collect the sample at the tenth grade. This research use X1 class as experimental group and X3 class as control group. Every group consists of 22 students. In experimental group was tough by using Herringbone Technique while in control group was taught by using Small Group Discussion The result of post-test shows us that the mean at experimental class is higher than at control class. The result of calculation of the t-test shows that tobserved (4.23) is higher that ttable (2.01) in 5% level significant. These tell us that teaching reading using Herringbone technique is effective to improve students‟ reading comprehension. The research hypothesis is “there is effectiveness of using Herringbone technique in teaching reading towards students, reading compehension”

Keywords : Parent involvement, learning English The thesis tried to describe the parent’s involvement in guiding the students’ English learning achievement, which focuses on main issue which explains how do the parents guide their children in learning English at home and how do the children behave in responding their parents guidance. The research design in this research was qualitative research design in the form of Case Study. The data and data source were events, informant, and document. In collecting data, the researcher used observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The data were analyzed by collecting the data, reducing the data, presenting the data, and drawing conclusion. The researcher used triangulation, especially data triangulation to show the trustworthiness of the data. The result of the research showed that parents’ support in students’ English learning process at home is well. Children’s homework is considered to be important by each parent and they assist their children to do homework at home with various method. Although most the parents can not help the children to learn English directly, but they always facilitate the children. It is such as the parents engage English course and they will buy English dictionary for their children. Moreover, Children’s behavior in responding parent’s guidance is also well. Most of the children give positive response and they always do what the parent command. Thus, it may be concluded that by staying involved with their children’s education, parents can guide, supervise and give motivation for the children to reach the academic achievement
