Curvature of a class of indefinite globally framed -manifolds
We present a compared analysis of some properties of indefinite almost
-manifolds and indefinite -manifolds. We give some
characterizations in terms of the Levi-Civita connection and of the
characteristic vector fields. We study the sectional and -sectional
curvature of indefinite almost -manifolds and state an expression
of the curvature tensor field for the indefinite -space forms. We
analyse the sectional curvature of indefinite -manifold in which
the number of the spacelike characteristic vector fields is equal to that of
the timelike characteristic vector fields. Some examples are also described.Comment: 17 pages, no figure
Psychological well-being in parents of pediatric patients with TD1. Role of Family Conflict and Parental Fear of Children’s Self-injecting on Their Glycaemic Control and Psychological Well-being
Aims: This study aims to assess psychological well-being and life perceptions in parents of paediatric patients with T1D and to identify how the parents’ fear of children’s self-injecting and conflicts could influence the paediatric patients’ glycaemic control and well-being.
Study Design: One-time point cross-sectional study.
Place and Duration of Study: The participants were recruited from patients attending the paediatric Department of the Hospital of Bolzano (Italy) in 2011–2012.
Methodology: Paediatric patients (n=59) with a mean age of 13.19 years (SD=3.26, range 8-18) and their parents were contacted during the check-ups and self- and proxy-reported questionnaires were administered. Parents were principally represented by mothers (n=48), married (79.7%) and with a medium perceived economic situation (54.2%).
Results: Glycaemic control was severely inadequate, especially if paediatric patients were older at the time of assessment and younger at diagnosis and if parents declared more conflicts with them. Parental fear about their child’s self-injection of insulin was identified as a key element impacting externalising/internalising symptoms and on worries about the illness.
Conclusion: By examining family conflicts and parenting practices, it will be possible to set up specific psycho-social interventions to increase adolescents’ treatment adherence and to mitigate the family conflicts and fears that may arise in the context of the daily management of the illness
Purificação e caracterização bioquÃmica de lipase extracelular produzida por uma nova linhagem de Rhizopus sp.
The present study had as a goal to purify and characterize the lipolytic fraction secreted by a strain of Rhizopus sp. Only 3 steps of purification were necessary to achieve SDS-PAGE homogeneity. One band with 37.5 KDa molecular mass and with 1446 U/mg specific activity was obtained. The purified fraction presented 2 lipase isoforms; both showed optimum activity at 50ºC, and were stable between 6.5 and 7.5 pH values and at temperatures below 50ºC and also kept their activity in hexane.

Production and mechanical characterization of graphene micro-ribbons
Patterning of graphene into micro- and nano-ribbons allows for the tunability
in emerging fields such as flexible electronic and optoelectronic devices, and
is gaining interest for the production of more efficient reinforcement for
composite materials. In this work we fabricate micro-ribbons from CVD graphene
by combining UV photolithography and dry etching oxygen plasma treatments.
Raman spectral imaging confirms the effectiveness of the patterning procedure,
which is suitable for large-area patterning of graphene on wafer-scale, and
confirms that the quality of graphene remains unaltered. The produced
micro-ribbons were finally transferred and embedded into a polymeric matrix and
the mechanical response was investigated by in-situ mechanical investigation
combining Raman spectroscopy and tensile/compressive tests
Learning from the past: the lesson of the Japanese house
Thanks to the great spiritual value linked to it, the Japanese house is one of the oldest and most fascinating architectural constructs of the eastern world. The religion and the environment of this region have had a central role in the evolution of the domestic spaces and in the choice of materials used. The eastern architects have kept some canons of construction that modern designers still use. These models have been source of inspiration of the greatest minds of the architectural landscape of the 20th century. The following analysis tries to understand how such cultural bases have defined construction choices, carefully describing all the spaces that characterize the domestic environment. The Japanese culture concerning daily life at home is very different from ours in the west; there is a different collocation of the spiritual value assigned to some rooms in the hierarchy of project prioritization: within the eastern mindset one should guarantee the harmony of spaces that are able to satisfy the spiritual needs of everyone that lives in that house. The Japanese house is a new world: every space is evolving thanks to its versatility. Lights and shadows coexist as they mingle with nature, another factor in understanding the ideology of Japanese architects. In the following research, besides a detailed description of the central elements, incorporates where necessary a comparison with the western world of thought. All the influences will be analysed, with a particular view to the architectural features that have influenced the Modern Movement. The traditional Japanese architecture offers an important reflection, highlighting some simple points that we often forget because our western lifestyle is based increasingly on materialism. Where, if not our house, should be our refuge where we can dedicate ourselves to the search for inner harmony
Online and offline integration in marketing communication. Delving into the business perspective
Literature about Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) is still evolving, but lacks
a systematic focus on online and offline integration approaches. This research aims to
identify the key managerial issues related to online and offline integration within IMC
and explore the existence of clusters of firms with consistent conducts and results. We
carried out a survey with 124 large firms operating in Italy, running first exploratory
factor analyses and then a non-hierarchical cluster analysis. The former highlight the
nature of the implementation modalities of online and offline integration in IMC, the
main types of advantages, and the different categories of barriers to such
implementation. The latter results in two clusters of firms. Academic and managerial
implications are presented along with future research directions
