Euler-Poincar\'e approaches to nematodynamics
Nematodynamics is the orientation dynamics of flowless liquid-crystals. We
show how Euler-Poincar\'e reduction produces a unifying framework for various
theories, including Ericksen-Leslie, Luhiller-Rey, and Eringen's micropolar
theory. In particular, we show that these theories are all compatible with each
other and some of them allow for more general configurations involving a non
vanishing discination density. All results are also extended to flowing liquid
crystals.Comment: 26 pages, no figure
A Conceptual Study on User Identification and Verification Process using Face Recognition Technique
The rapid growth of information and communication technology resulted in abundant data and information growth in every field with the necessity for high data security. Face recognition is one of the types of unique biometrics measure related to human characteristics, which can be used for identification or authentication purpose as individual’s claimed identity. Face recognition system acquired great scope for the past few years in image processing for the security purposes including identification and verification process, due to its applications in various domains like crime detection, banking, and defense. Based on face data acquisition, face recognition techniques can be broadly classified into three types asintensity images using local binarypattern, video sequences using training videos and 3D information using 3D feature extraction. This paper discusses different face recognition algorithms and analyses it uses its advantages and disadvantages. This paper also compares and discusses how these techniques can be used for various identification and verification system in various fields and attempts to disclose state of the art of face recognition technolog
Qualitative Analysis of a Bulk Ferromagnetic Hysteresis Model
In this paper, we present a set of equations for a bulk ferromagnetic hysteresis model. We establish the connection between this set of equations and classical energy loss expressions for ferromagnetic hysteresis. We show analytically that for periodic inputs the system of equations has a limit set that is a periodic orbit in the H \Gamma M plane, under certain constraints on the parameters. The results on the\Omega limit set proved in this paper is used in extensions of our work to a bulk magnetostriction model in [1]. 1 Introduction In 1983, D.C. Jiles and D.L. Atherton [2, 3] proposed a model for ferromagnetic hysteresis from phenomenological and thermodynamic considerations. This model is very appealing from the control point of view as it describes hysteresis as the solution of four differential equations. The verification of the periodic nature of the hysteresis curves with sinusoidal inputs, has been achieved by computer simulation[2, 3]. V. Rizzoli et al.[4] use the harmonic ..
