Search for high energy multigamma events at the ISR

    No full text
This is a report of the preliminary results of an exploratory experiment at the CERN ISR on the search for multigamma events in proton-proton collisions. In this experiment an overwhelmingly large number of multigamma events have been observed especially at high multiplicities. The preliminary results also show a prominent peak in the energy distribution of the individual gamma rays as measured by the 3-radiation lengths thick lead glass Cerenkov counters under the present triggering conditions. Single direct photon production in pp collisions at square root s=532 GeV in the p/sub t/ interval 23 to 57 GeV/c

The results of an experiment made at the CERN ISR to investigate the possible direct production of single photons in pp collisions at square root s=53.2 GeV at 90 degrees and in the p/sub t/ interval 2.3 to 5.7 GeV/c are reported. The value of the ratio R=n/sub gamma //n /sub pi /0 compatible with zero for low p/sub t/<or approximately=3 Ge V/c but, in spite of the large error, shows a trend to increase for larger p/sub t/.
