Aplikasi Modul Pengguna Pada Perpustakaan Universitas Kristen Petra

Currently, Petra Christian University Library provides a form for its users to recommend collection. However, this process is still done manually which causes frequent human error and difficulties in processing. In addition, user has not been able to obtain information about the loans status, including the return date and fines, if any. Based on those problems, the authors made a library user module application. This website application is created using Yii Framework and PostgreSQL database. For book collection recommendation system is based on the collection titles of user\u27s history loans which is processed by Solr application and user\u27s interest classification. The live chat feature is built using PHP Socket and HTML5 WebSocket. The final result of this application development is users can create a new collection recommendation and view collection recommendation that have been proposed along with its status. Users can also view their status and history loans as well as the book collection recommendations. Moreover, there is a live chat feature as a form of communication media between the library with its users interactively

Lessons learned in the field of biology like human breathing often becomes a tough lesson to understand because in biology lessons often rely solely on pictures in the textbooks, while students can sometimes interpret the picture differently. One way to understand the biology of the concept could use multimedia applications these applications would pack the human respiratory system become lessons interactive and engaging, where users will be involved in the learning process. The material in this interactive media among others are breathing and respiratory phase, respiratory organs, respiratory gas transport mechanisms in the alveoli and respiratory disease. There is also a test to measure the level of understanding the user that has been studied from this application. Applications created by using Adobe Flash CS6.Simulation and animation in the application will greatly assist the user in understanding the material. Therefore user's interest in learning is increased, coupled with the easiness of application USAge and user friendl

Systematic review and meta-analysis of the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonography for deep vein thrombosis

Background Ultrasound (US) has largely replaced contrast venography as the definitive diagnostic test for deep vein thrombosis (DVT). We aimed to derive a definitive estimate of the diagnostic accuracy of US for clinically suspected DVT and identify study-level factors that might predict accuracy. Methods We undertook a systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression of diagnostic cohort studies that compared US to contrast venography in patients with suspected DVT. We searched Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, Web of Science, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Controlled Trials Register, Database of Reviews of Effectiveness, the ACP Journal Club, and citation lists (1966 to April 2004). Random effects meta-analysis was used to derive pooled estimates of sensitivity and specificity. Random effects meta-regression was used to identify study-level covariates that predicted diagnostic performance. Results We identified 100 cohorts comparing US to venography in patients with suspected DVT. Overall sensitivity for proximal DVT (95% confidence interval) was 94.2% (93.2 to 95.0), for distal DVT was 63.5% (59.8 to 67.0), and specificity was 93.8% (93.1 to 94.4). Duplex US had pooled sensitivity of 96.5% (95.1 to 97.6) for proximal DVT, 71.2% (64.6 to 77.2) for distal DVT and specificity of 94.0% (92.8 to 95.1). Triplex US had pooled sensitivity of 96.4% (94.4 to 97.1%) for proximal DVT, 75.2% (67.7 to 81.6) for distal DVT and specificity of 94.3% (92.5 to 95.8). Compression US alone had pooled sensitivity of 93.8 % (92.0 to 95.3%) for proximal DVT, 56.8% (49.0 to 66.4) for distal DVT and specificity of 97.8% (97.0 to 98.4). Sensitivity was higher in more recently published studies and in cohorts with higher prevalence of DVT and more proximal DVT, and was lower in cohorts that reported interpretation by a radiologist. Specificity was higher in cohorts that excluded patients with previous DVT. No studies were identified that compared repeat US to venography in all patients. Repeat US appears to have a positive yield of 1.3%, with 89% of these being confirmed by venography. Conclusion Combined colour-doppler US techniques have optimal sensitivity, while compression US has optimal specificity for DVT. However, all estimates are subject to substantial unexplained heterogeneity. The role of repeat scanning is very uncertain and based upon limited data

Functional properties of sodium and calcium caseinate antimicrobial active films containing carvacrol

Active edible films were prepared by adding carvacrol into sodium caseinate (SC) and calcium caseinate (CC) matrices plasticized with two different glycerol concentrations (25 and 35 wt%) prepared by solvent casting. Functional characterisation of these bio-films was carried out by determination of some of their physico-chemical properties, such as colour, transparency, oxygen barrier, wettability, dye permeation properties and antibacterial effectiveness against Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria. All films exhibited good performance in terms of optical properties in the CIELab space showing high transparency. Carvacrol was able to reduce CC oxygen permeability and slightly increased the surface hydrophobicity. Dye diffusion experiments were performed to evaluate permeation properties. The diffusion of dye through films revealed that SC was more permeable than CC. The agar diffusion method was used for the evaluation of the films antimicrobial effectiveness against Escherichia cell and Staphylococcus aureus. Both SC and CC edible films with carvacrol showed inhibitory effects on both bacteria. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. PDK-1 regulates lactate production in hypoxia and is associated with poor prognosis in head and neck squamous cancer

    Get PDF
Here we describe the expression and function of a HIF-1-regulated protein pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase-1 (PDK-1) in head and neck squamous cancer (HNSCC). Using RNAi to downregulate hypoxia-inducible PDK-1, we found that lactate and pyruvate excretion after 16–48 h of hypoxia was suppressed to normoxic levels. This indicates that PDK-1 plays an important role in maintaining glycolysis. Knockdown had no effect on proliferation or survival under hypoxia. The immunohistochemical expression of PDK-1 was assessed in 140 cases of HNSCC. PDK-1 expression was not expressed in normal tissues but was upregulated in HNSCC and found to be predominantly cytoplasmic with occasional strong focal nuclear expression. It was strongly related to poor outcome (P=0.005 split by median). These results indicate that HIF regulation of PDK-1 has a key role in maintaining lactate production in human cancer and that the investigation of PDK-1 inhibitors should be investigated for antitumour effects
