Reaction mechanism and characteristics of T_{20} in d + ^3He backward elastic scattering at intermediate energies

    Get PDF
For backward elastic scattering of deuterons by ^3He, cross sections \sigma and tensor analyzing power T_{20} are measured at E_d=140-270 MeV. The data are analyzed by the PWIA and by the general formula which includes virtual excitations of other channels, with the assumption of the proton transfer from ^3He to the deuteron. Using ^3He wave functions calculated by the Faddeev equation, the PWIA describes global features of the experimental data, while the virtual excitation effects are important for quantitative fits to the T_{20} data. Theoretical predictions on T_{20}, K_y^y (polarization transfer coefficient) and C_{yy} (spin correlation coefficient) are provided up to GeV energies.Comment: REVTEX+epsfig, 17 pages including 6 eps figs, to be published in Phys. Nuclear structure corrections in the energy spectra of electronic and muonic deuterium

    Get PDF
The one-loop nuclear structure corrections of order (Z alpha)^5 to the Lamb shift and hyperfine splitting of the deuterium are calculated. The contribution of the deuteron structure effects to the isotope shift (ep)-(ed), (mu p)-(mu d) in the interval (1S - 2S) is obtained on the basis of modern experimental data on the deuteron electromagnetic form factors. The comparison with the similar contributions to the Lamb shift for electronic and muonic hydrogen shows, that the relative contribution due to the nucleus structure increases when passing from the hydrogen to the deuterium.Comment: Talk presented at the Conference "Physics of Fundamental Interactions" of the Nuclear Physics Section of the Physics Department of RAS, ITEP, Moscow, 2-6 December, 2002; 8 pages, REVTE

Radiative corrections to polarization observables in elastic electron-deuteron scattering in leptonic variables

The model--independent QED radiative corrections to polarization observables in elastic scattering of unpolarized and longitudinally--polarized electron beam by the deuteron target have been calculated in leptonic variables. The experimental setup when the deuteron target is arbitrarily polarized is considered and the procedure for applying derived results to the vector or tensor polarization of the recoil deuteron is discussed. The basis of the calculations consists of the account for all essential Feynman diagrams which results in the form of the Drell-Yan representation for the cross-section and use of the covariant parametrization of the deuteron polarization state. The numerical estimates of the radiative corrections are given for the case when event selection allows the undetected particles (photons and electron-positron pairs) and the restriction on the lost invariant mass is used.Comment: 43 pages,3 figures. Experimental and Theoretical Results for Weak Charge Current Backward Proton Production

In this paper, we do three things in the study of deuteron break-up by high energy neutrino beams. (1) We present previously unpublished data on neutrino induced backward protons from deuteron targets; (2) we calculate the contributions from both the two-nucleon (2N) and six-quark (6q) deuteron components, which depend upon the overall normalization of the part that is 6q; and (3) we suggest other signatures for distinguishing the 2N and 6q clusters. We conclude that the 6q cluster easily explains the shape of the high momentum backward proton spectrum, and its size is nicely explained if the amount of 6q is one or a few percent by normalization of the deuteron. There is a crossover, above which the 6q contribution is important or dominant, at 300--400 MeV/c backward proton momentum.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure

Frame Dependence of Spin-One Angular Conditions in Light Front Dynamics

    Get PDF
We elaborate the frame dependence of the angular conditions for spin-1 form factors. An extra angular condition is found in addition to the usual angular condition relating the four helicity amplitudes. Investigating the frame-dependence of the angular conditions, we find that the extra angular condition is in general as complicated as the usual one, although it becomes very simple in the q+=0q^+ = 0 frame involving only two helicity amplitudes. It is confirmed that the angular conditions are identical in frames that are connected by kinematical transformations. The high Q2Q^2 behaviors of the physical form factors and the limiting behaviors in special reference frames are also discussed.Comment: 29 pages RevTeX. submitted to Phys. Rev.

Measurement of Tensor Polarization in Elastic Electron-Deuteron Scattering at Large Momentum Transfer

    Get PDF
Tensor polarization observables (t20, t21 and t22) have been measured in elastic electron-deuteron scattering for six values of momentum transfer between 0.66 and 1.7 (GeV/c)^2. The experiment was performed at the Jefferson Laboratory in Hall C using the electron HMS Spectrometer, a specially designed deuteron magnetic channel and the recoil deuteron polarimeter POLDER. The new data determine to much larger Q^2 the deuteron charge form factors G_C and G_Q. They are in good agreement with relativistic calculations and disagree with pQCD predictions.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, for associated informations, see http://isnwww.in2p3.fr/hadrons/t20/t20_ang.html clarification about several topics, one figure has been had, extraction of form factors use AQ interpolation in our Q2 range onl

Possibility of determinig the parity of the pentaquark Θ+\Theta^+ from photoproduction near threshold

We discuss the possibility of determining the parity of the Θ+\Theta^+ baryon from photoproduction γNKΘ+\gamma N\to K\Theta^+ process near threshold. We utilize the conservation laws of parity and angular momentum for the analysis of angular distributions and spin observables near threshold. Since the discussion is in essence a partial wave analysis of the production mechanism the result should be less dependent on the model parameters. Our analysis shows that the angular distribution and photon polarization asymmetry for the process of neutron target are sensitive to the parity of the Θ+\Theta^+, but not for the case of proton target. In the case of proton target, the polarization asymmetries of target and recoiled Θ+\Theta^+ are preferred for parity determination.Comment: 23 pages, 13 figures, extended versio
