The PRISNM-CLARA setup: experimental results and future plans

    No full text
The PRISMA-CLARA setup, consisting of the large solid angle magnetic spectrometer for heavy-ions PRISMA coupled to the highly efficient CLARA array of 25 Clovers detectors, was operating at LNL since the end of 2003. The first experimental campaign has been completed at the end of 2004. Selected results on the structure of moderately neutron-rich nuclei, populated in multi-nucleon transfer and deep-inelastic reactions, are presented here. Some technical developments related to the setup are also discussed

The mechanics and cooling system of the ALICE silicon pixel detector

    No full text
The design and production phases of an extremely light carbon fibre supporting structure for the silicon pixel detector of ALICE is presented together with the integrated evaporative cooling system. Considering the very demanding material budget specifications where, in total, the average material traversed by a particle hitting perpendicular to the SPD should correspond to about 2% of a radiation length, the material choice, the qualification criteria and the system performances are extensively described for the mechanical and cooling system components with a short description of the critical specification defined by the very complex mechanical integration constraints
