The fluctuation spectra around a Gaussian classical solution of a tensor model and the general relativity
Tensor models can be interpreted as theory of dynamical fuzzy spaces. In this
paper, I study numerically the fluctuation spectra around a Gaussian classical
solution of a tensor model, which represents a fuzzy flat space in arbitrary
dimensions. It is found that the momentum distribution of the low-lying
low-momentum spectra is in agreement with that of the metric tensor modulo the
general coordinate transformation in the general relativity at least in the
dimensions studied numerically, i.e. one to four dimensions. This result
suggests that the effective field theory around the solution is described in a

Use of tri-axial accelerometers to assess terrestrial mammal behaviour in the wild
Tri-axial accelerometer tags provide quantitative data on body movement that can be used to characterize behaviour and understand species ecology in ways that would otherwise be impossible. Using tags on wild terrestrial mammals, especially smaller species, in natural settings has been limited. Poor battery power also reduced the amount of data collected, which limits what can be derived about animal behaviour. Another challenge using wild animals, is acquiring observations of actual behaviours with which to compare tag data and create an adequate training set to reliably identify behavioural states. Brown hares were fitted with accelerometers for 5 weeks to evaluate their use in collecting detailed behaviour data and activity levels. Collared hares were filmed to associate actual behaviours with tag data. Observed behaviours were classified using Random Forests (ensemble learning method) to create a supervised model and then used to classify hare behaviour from the tags. Increased tag longevity allowed acquisition of large quantities of data from each individual and direct observation of tagged hare's behaviour. Random Forests accurately classified observed behaviours from tag data with an 11% error rate. Individual accuracy of behaviours varied with running (100% accuracy), feeding (94.7%) and vigilance (98.3%) having the highest classification accuracy. Hares spent 46% of their time being vigilant and 25% feeding when active. The combination of our tags and Random Forests facilitated large amounts of behavioural data to be collected on animals where observational studies could be limited, or impossible. The same method could be used on a range of terrestrial mammals to create models to investigate behaviour from tag data, to learn more about their behaviour and be used to answer many ecological questions. However, further development of methods for analysing tag data is needed to make the process quicker, simpler and more accurate
The lowest modes around Gaussian solutions of tensor models and the general relativity
In the previous paper, the number distribution of the low-lying spectra
around Gaussian solutions representing various dimensional fuzzy tori of a
tensor model was numerically shown to be in accordance with the general
relativity on tori. In this paper, I perform more detailed numerical analysis
of the properties of the modes for two-dimensional fuzzy tori, and obtain
conclusive evidences for the agreement. Under a proposed correspondence between
the rank-three tensor in tensor models and the metric tensor in the general
relativity, conclusive agreement is obtained between the profiles of the
low-lying modes in a tensor model and the metric modes transverse to the
general coordinate transformation. Moreover, the low-lying modes are shown to
be well on a massless trajectory with quartic momentum dependence in the tensor
model. This is in agreement with that the lowest momentum dependence of metric
fluctuations in the general relativity will come from the R^2-term, since the
R-term is topological in two dimensions. These evidences support the idea that
the low-lying low-momentum dynamics around the Gaussian solutions of tensor
models is described by the general relativity. I also propose a renormalization
procedure for tensor models. A classical application of the procedure makes the
patterns of the low-lying spectra drastically clearer, and suggests also the

A perturbative analysis of tachyon condensation
Tachyon condensation in the open bosonic string is analyzed using a
perturbative expansion of the tachyon potential around the unstable D25-brane
vacuum. Using the leading terms in the tachyon potential, Pad\'e approximants
can apparently give the energy of the stable vacuum to arbitrarily good
accuracy. Level-truncation approximations up to level 10 for the coefficients
in the tachyon potential are extrapolated to higher levels and used to find
approximants for the full potential. At level 14 and above, the resulting
approximants give an energy less than -1 in units of the D25-brane tension, in
agreement with recent level-truncation results by Gaiotto and Rastelli. The
extrapolated energy continues to decrease below -1 until reaching a minimum
near level 26, after which the energy turns around and begins to approach -1
from below. Within the accuracy of this method, these results are completely
consistent with an energy which approaches -1 as the level of truncation is

Superstring field theory equivalence: Ramond sector
We prove that the finite gauge transformation of the Ramond sector of the
modified cubic superstring field theory is ill-defined due to collisions of
picture changing operators.
Despite this problem we study to what extent could a bijective classical
correspondence between this theory and the (presumably consistent)
non-polynomial theory exist. We find that the classical equivalence between
these two theories can almost be extended to the Ramond sector: We construct
mappings between the string fields (NS and Ramond, including Chan-Paton factors
and the various GSO sectors) of the two theories that send solutions to
solutions in a way that respects the linearized gauge symmetries in both sides
and keeps the action of the solutions invariant. The perturbative spectrum
around equivalent solutions is also isomorphic.
The problem with the cubic theory implies that the correspondence of the
linearized gauge symmetries cannot be extended to a correspondence of the
finite gauge symmetries. Hence, our equivalence is only formal, since it
relates a consistent theory to an inconsistent one. Nonetheless, we believe
that the fact that the equivalence formally works suggests that a consistent
modification of the cubic theory exists. We construct a theory that can be

Towards mirror symmetry \`a la SYZ for generalized Calabi-Yau manifolds
Fibrations of flux backgrounds by supersymmetric cycles are investigated. For
an internal six-manifold M with static SU(2) structure and mirror \hat{M}, it
is argued that the product M x \hat{M} is doubly fibered by supersymmetric
three-tori, with both sets of fibers transverse to M and \hat{M}. The mirror
map is then realized by T-dualizing the fibers. Mirror-symmetric properties of
the fluxes, both geometric and non-geometric, are shown to agree with previous
conjectures based on the requirement of mirror symmetry for Killing
prepotentials. The fibers are conjectured to be destabilized by fluxes on
generic SU(3)xSU(3) backgrounds, though they may survive at type-jumping
points. T-dualizing the surviving fibers ensures the exchange of pure spinors

The Global Asthma Network rationale and methods for Phase I global surveillance: prevalence, severity, management and risk factors.
The Global Asthma Network (GAN), established in 2012, followed the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC). ISAAC Phase One involved over 700 000 adolescents and children from 156 centres in 56 countries; it found marked worldwide variation in symptom prevalence of asthma, rhinitis and eczema that was not explained by the current understanding of these diseases; ISAAC Phase Three involved over 1 187 496 adolescents and children (237 centres in 98 countries). It found that asthma symptom prevalence was increasing in many locations especially in low- and middle-income countries where severity was also high, and identified several environmental factors that required further investigation.GAN Phase I, described in this article, builds on the ISAAC findings by collecting further information on asthma, rhinitis and eczema prevalence, severity, diagnoses, asthma emergency room visits, hospital admissions, management and use of asthma essential medicines. The subjects will be the same age groups as ISAAC, and their parents. In this first global monitoring of asthma in children and adults since 2003, further evidence will be obtained to understand asthma, management practices and risk factors, leading to further recognition that asthma is an important non-communicable disease and to reduce its global burden
The impact of the method of consent on response rates in the ISAAC time trends study.
BACKGROUND: Centres in Phases I and III of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) programme used the method of consent (passive or active) required by local ethics committees. METHODS: Retrospectively, relationships between achieved response rates and method of consent for 13-14 and 6-7-year-olds (adolescents and children, respectively), were examined between phases and between English and non-English language centres. RESULTS: Information was obtained for 113 of 115 centres for adolescents and 72/72 centres for children. Both age groups: most centres using passive consent achieved high response rates (>80% adolescents and >70% children). English language centres using active consent showed a larger decrease in response rate. Adolescents: seven centres changed from passive consent in Phase I to active consent in Phase III (median decrease of 13%), with five centres showing lower response rates (as low as 34%). Children: no centre changed consent method between phases. Centres using active consent had lower median response rates (lowest response rate 45%). CONCLUSION: The requirement for active consent for population school-based questionnaire studies can impact negatively on response rates, particularly English language centres, thus adversely affecting the validity of the data. Characterization of exopolysaccharides produced by seven biofilm-forming cyanobacterial strains for biotechnological applications
The molecular identification of seven biofilmforming
cyanobacteria and the characterization of their
exopolysaccharides were made and considered in terms of
potential biotechnological applications. The studied strains
were isolated from phototrophic biofilms taken from various
Italian sites including a wastewater treatment plant, an eroded
soil, and a brackish lagoon. The polysaccharides were
characterized by use of ion exchange chromatography,
circular dichroism, and cytochemical stains. All strains produced
exopolysaccharides with differing ratios of hydrophobic
and hydrophilic moieties depending on the species, the
polysaccharide fraction (i.e., whether capsular or released),
and the ambient conditions. It was shown that the anionic
nature of the exopolysaccharides was due to the presence of
carboxylic and sulfated groups and is likely the main characteristic

Dental fluorosis in populations from Chiang Mai, Thailand with different fluoride exposures - Paper 2: The ability of fluorescence imaging to detect differences in fluorosis prevalence and severity for different fluoride intakes from water
BACKGROUND: To assess the ability of fluorescence imaging to detect a dose response relationship between fluorosis severity and different levels of fluoride in water supplies compared to remote photographic scoring in selected populations participating in an observational, epidemiological survey in Chiang Mai, Thailand. METHODS: Subjects were male and female lifetime residents aged 8-13 years. For each child the fluoride content of cooking water samples (CWS) was assessed to create categorical intervals of water fluoride concentration. Fluorescence images were taken of the maxillary central incisors and analyzed for dental fluorosis using two different software techniques. Output metrics for the fluorescence imaging techniques were compared to TF scores from blinded photographic scores obtained from the survey. RESULTS: Data from 553 subjects were available. Both software analysis techniques demonstrated significant correlations with the photographic scores. The metrics for area effected by fluorosis and the overall fluorescence loss had the strongest association with the photographic TF score (Spearman’s rho 0.664 and 0.652 respectively). Both software techniques performed well for comparison of repeat fluorescence images with ICC values of 0.95 and 0.85 respectively. CONCLUSIONS: This study supports the potential use of fluorescence imaging for the objective quantification of dental fluorosis.
