PROJECTED COSTS AND RETURNS - SUGARCANE, LOUISIANA, 1997
This report presents estimates of costs and returns associated with sugarcane production practices in Louisiana for 1997. It is part of a continuing effort to provide farmers, researchers, extension personnel, lending agencies and others working in agriculture and/or agribusiness timely planning information.Farm Management,
INCORPORATION OF WITHIN-SEASON YIELD GROWTH INTO A MATHEMATICAL PROGRAMMING SUGARCANE HARVEST SCHEDULING MODEL
This study focuses on the development of a optimal harvest scheduling mathematical programming model which incorporates within-season changes in perennial crop yields. Daily crop yield prediction models are estimated econometrically for major commercially grown sugarcane cultivars. This information is incorporated into a farm-level harvest scheduling linear programming model. The harvest scheduling model solves for an optimal daily harvest schedule which maximizes whole farm net returns above harvesting costs. Model results are compared for a commercial sugarcane farm in Louisiana.sugarcane, harvest scheduling, within-season yield growth, Crop Production/Industries,

The design challenge addressed in this outfit was to: “express how you recognize and define truth.” This challenge was made in the context of the recent epidemic of fake news. I researched confirmation bias, selective exposure, and desirability bias, which are all concepts that explain how people only see the truth they want to see, and reject anything that does not conform to what they want to believe.
The body is truth. The tightly laced corset that manipulates the body shape and the hoop skirt that creates an exaggerated shape both represent the manipulation of truth. The dress that sits on top of the corset and hoop skirt represents the desire to accept this version of the truth. The purchased fabric has beautiful floral embroidery and sits over the shape of the manipulated truth, creating a simplified, attractive form. The dress is sheer to show that if we choose, we can see into the manipulation and therefore understand its relationship to real truth
Area dependence of interlayer tunneling in strongly correlated bilayer two-dimensional electron systems at ν_T = 1
The area and perimeter dependence of the Josephson-like interlayer tunneling signature of the coherent ν_T = 1 quantum Hall phase in bilayer two-dimensional electron systems is examined. Electrostatic top gates of various sizes and shapes are used to locally define distinct ν_T = 1 regions in the same sample. Near the phase boundary with the incoherent ν_T = 1 state at large layer separation, our results demonstrate that the tunneling conductance in the coherent phase is closely proportional to the total area of the tunneling region. This implies that tunneling at ν_T = 1 is a bulk phenomenon in this regime
Determining the Future for Louisiana Sugar Cane Products, Inc.: A Case Study Analyzing Vertical Coordination Options
Deciding how to coordinate activities can be a challenge posed in any marketing chain. This case involves an agricultural cooperative that has focused entirely on marketing raw sugar cane for additional refinement. Recent dramatic shifts in the sector have caused the members of the cooperative to consider building a facility that will process the raw sugar cane. In so doing, the cooperative can consider using the spot market, using contracts, vertically coordinating, or vertically integrating. This case study of Louisiana Sugar Cane Products, Inc. is a unique, real-life case that can be widely used in marketing and cooperatives courses.Agribusiness, Crop Production/Industries,
Traffic jams and intermittent flows in microfluidic networks
We investigate both experimentally and theoretically the traffic of particles
flowing in microfluidic obstacle networks. We show that the traffic dynamics is
a non-linear process: the particle current does not scale with the particle
density even in the dilute limit where no particle collision occurs. We
demonstrate that this non-linear behavior stems from long range hydrodynamic
interactions. Importantly, we also establish that there exists a maximal
current above which no stationary particle flow can be sustained. For higher
current values, intermittent traffic jams form thereby inducing the ejection of
the particles from the initial path and the subsequent invasion of the network.
Eventually, we put our findings in the broader context of the transport
proccesses of driven particles in low dimension
Maximizing Economic Returns from Sugarcane Production Through Optimization of Harvest Schedule (Bulletin #868)
This bulletin presents a methodology for the incorporation of within-season sucrose accumulation in sugarcane into an optimal single-season, daily harvest scheduling model at the individual farm level.https://digitalcommons.lsu.edu/agcenter_bulletins/1033/thumbnail.jp
Valuation of Sugarcane Associated with Eminent Domain Land Acquisition in Louisiana (Bulletin #867)
The purpose of this bulletin is to present a method to value perennial crops associated with eminent domain acquisition of agricultural crop land. More specifically, it focuses on the estimation of the value of ‘short-lived’ perennial crops, crops that have a productive life over a relatively short, defined period of years, as opposed to permanent plantings, such as orchards or vineyards, which have a productive life over a considerably longer period.https://digitalcommons.lsu.edu/agcenter_bulletins/1040/thumbnail.jp
