Psychiatric diagnosis in attempted suicide
This is a retrospective study which assesses the various
socio-demographic correlates, the methods adopted to
commit suicide and the psychiatric disorders in patients
attempting suicide. The most common psychiatric diagnosis
was found to be Adjustment disorder followed by
Depressive disorder. Organo-phosphorous compounds were
the most frequent agent used among suicide attempt
patients
Efficacy of certain fungicides against Phomopsis theae under in vitro conditions
Four contact fungicides, Blitox (copper oxychloride), Kocide (copper hydroxide), Mancozeb (dithane M-45) and Bordeaux mixture and four systemic fungicides, Baycor (bitertanol), Calixin (tridemorph), Contaf (hexaconazole) and Bavistin (carbendazim) were evaluated against Phomopsis theae under in vitro condition. The results indicated that carbendazim was found to be the most effective in suppressing the growth followed by dithane M-45. Among the different concentrations tested, carbendazim at 4 ppm and dithane M-45 at 8 ppm were found to be optimum for the control of pathogen’s growth. Keywords: Phomopsis theae, fungicides, in vitro screening, phomopsis canke
Investigation of Protein Patterns by Using Sds Page in Kidney, Liver and Brain of Cyprinus Carpio
Western transfer and dodecyl sodium sulphate- polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) are two of the most widely used and beloved techniques in cancer research to identify proteins and glycoproteins. the protein fraction expression on the protein profile is significantly lower on the seventh day than it is on the eighth, the protein fraction expression is directly inversely related to the number of days. In order to determine the number of protein bands expressed in different tissues of Cyprinus carpio exposed to mercury and lead as the number of days rose, electrophoretic research was conducted. The difference between the 27 bands for lead and 36 bands for mercury on the seventh day and the 29 bands for lead and 40 bands on the thirty-first day suggests that as the number of exposure days to lead and mercury rises, so do the number of protein bands that are expressed. Using gel electrophoresis, a mixture of proteins is categorized by kind and molecular weight in the Western Blotting method. The results are then put into a membrane, which results in the formation of a band for each protein. Two HSP70 gene bands were found in Cyprinus carpio tissues after exposure to lead and mercury
Structure of 8B from elastic and inelastic 7Be+p scattering
Motivation: Detailed experimental knowledge of the level structure of light
weakly bound nuclei is necessary to guide the development of new theoretical
approaches that combine nuclear structure with reaction dynamics.
Purpose: The resonant structure of 8B is studied in this work.
Method: Excitation functions for elastic and inelastic 7Be+p scattering were
measured using a 7Be rare isotope beam. Excitation energies ranging between 1.6
and 3.4 MeV were investigated. An R-matrix analysis of the excitation functions
was performed.
Results: New low-lying resonances at 1.9, 2.5, and 3.3 MeV in 8B are reported
with spin-parity assignment 0+, 2+, and 1+, respectively. Comparison to the
Time Dependent Continuum Shell (TDCSM) model and ab initio no-core shell
model/resonating-group method (NCSM/RGM) calculations is performed. This work
is a more detailed analysis of the data first published as a Rapid
Communication. [J.P. Mitchell, et al, Phys. Rev. C 82, 011601(R) (2010)]
Conclusions: Identification of the 0+, 2+, 1+ states that were predicted by
some models at relatively low energy but never observed experimentally is an
important step toward understanding the structure of 8B. Their identification
was aided by having both elastic and inelastic scattering data. Direct
comparison of the cross sections and phase shifts predicted by the TDCSM and ab
initio No Core Shell Model coupled with the resonating group method is of
particular interest and provides a good test for these theoretical approaches.Comment: 15 pages, 19 figures, 3 tables, submitted to PR
A new record of deep-sea caridean shrimp Plesionika narval (Decapoda: Pandalidae) from the south west coast of India
Pandalid shrimp, Plesionika narval (Fabricius,
1787) was recorded from trawl fishing off Kochi
(9°59’ N 76°14’E), Kerala, south-west coast of India.
The specimens were obtained from deep-sea shrimp
trawlers operated at a depth range of 250-300 m.
Samples were collected from the Kalamuku Landing
Centre on 4th April 2014. 14 males and 12 females
in good condition were segregated from the mixed
deep-sea shrimp doscards and their measurements
recorded (Table 1). Body was transparently pinkred
in colour with a pair of sub dorsal and lateral
red margined white stripes extending along almost
entire body length from anterior carapace to
posterior abdomen
Review on resources, cultivation and utilisation of marine macroalgae in India
Marine macro algae, popularly known as
seaweeds belong to non-flowering plants and
inhabit the marine ecosystem. These autotrophic
plants are commonly found in intertidal as well as in
the subtidal regions of the sea. Based on
morphology, cellwall and pigment composition, they
are classified into green (Chlorophyceae), red
(Rhodophyceae) and brown (Phaeophyceae) algae
(Chapman, 1970). In India, certain coastal pockets
of the peninsular coast comprising nine maritime
states and Andaman-Nicobar as well as the
Laccadive Archipelago harbour dense beds of these
marine algae that can be exploited for commercial
purposes. More than 10,000 species of marine algae
have been reported from all over the world
Low-lying states in 8B
Excitation functions of elastic and inelastic 7Be+p scattering were measured
in the energy range between 1.6 and 2.8 MeV in the c.m. An R-matrix analysis of
the excitation functions provides strong evidence for new positive parity
states in 8B. A new 2+ state at an excitation energy of 2.55 MeV was observed
and a new 0+ state at 1.9 MeV is tentatively suggested. The R-matrix and Time
Dependent Continuum Shell Model were used in the analysis of the excitation
functions. The new results are compared to the calculations of contemporary
theoretical models.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, accepted as Rapid Communication in Phys. Rev.
Herpes encephalitis in an elderly immunocompetent lady – A case report
Herpes zoster encephalitis is a rare complication of varicella zoster virus infection. As its clinical presentation is usually non-specific, it often goes unrecognized. Advent of polymerase chain reaction test for detecting viral particles in the cerebrospinal fluid has enabled rapid and accurate diagnosis
