Homicide Profiles Based on Crime Scene and Victim Characteristics
One of the current trends in homicide research includes developing works based on scientific study and empirical evidence, which offer conclusions that can be used in an operational manner during police investigations. The objective of this study was to identify homicide characteristics from behaviors carried out on the crime scene and victim characteristics associated with those of the perpetrators of these crimes in Spain. The sample consisted of 448 homicide cases from the database of the Homicide Revision Project led by the Office of Coordination and Studies of the Secretary of State and Security. After creating six classification tree models, it was found that the modus operandi of the aggressor and the victim characteristics may permit hypothesizing about the demographic characteristics of the perpetrator (gender, age, and country of origin), his/her criminal record, and the type of relationship with the victim. Furthermore, the importance of the study of victimology during a criminal investigation is highlighted, as it may indirectly offer information about the potential perpetrator. The findings of this study suggest that criminal profiling contributes notably to the decision-making process to establish more rigorous suspect prioritization, improve the management of human resources and materials, and increase the efficiency of criminal investigations
Territory and cooperativism: A spatial analysis of the Spanish region of Andalusia
This study seeks to identify the behavior of cooperative societies in Andalusia, as well as the environments in which their greater relative importance is evident. The weight of cooperative societies is significantly greater in Andalusia as compared to the rest of Spain. These organizations are noteworthy for acting under social, economic and environmental principles and values, and represent a potential opportunity for the region. The methodology applied for this purpose consists of spatial analysis using descriptive graphing techniques and application of spatial autocorrelation. Among the results obtained, a significant finding is these organizations’ defined behavior as opposed to that of mercantile or traditional businesses. In mapping the weight of cooperativism in Andalusia, this study enables a deeper understanding that could lead to improved design and execution of general and specific territorial policies, and with a greater guarantee of success

This has involved the use of stratified sampling techniques and a questionnaire applied to the population under analysis. The results confirm the existence of a new category of social assistance claimant, as well as new regional areas affected by poverty.14 página
What is a scientific experiment?: The impact of a professional development course on teachers’ ability to design an inquiry-based science curriculum
Designing inquiry-based science lessons can be a challenge for secondary school teachers. In this study we evaluated the development of in-service teachers’ lesson plans as they took part in a 10-month professional development course in Peru which engaged teachers in the design of inquiry-based lessons. At the beginning, most teachers designed either confirmatory or structured inquiry activities. As the course progressed, however, they started designing guided and open inquiry lesson plans. We found four factors that accounted for this change: re-evaluating the need for lab materials, revising their views on the nature of science, engaging in guided and open inquiry activities themselves, and trying out inquiry-based lessons with their own students. Our results point to the importance of engaging teachers in prolonged and varied opportunities for inquiry as part of teacher education programs in order to achieve the challenge of changing teachers’ views and practices in science education.
The results obtained after evaluating the psychological functioning of 150 participants with severe and prolonged mental illness are presented. So we've used the Battery Luria-DNA and Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale. Specifically, we aim to: (1) provide data on the concurrent validity of the Luria - DNA battery through the study of correlations between this battery and WAIS scale. (2) Analyze the impact of clinical variables in the psychological performance of these patients; (3) obtain a profile of neuropsychological performance. The results support the reliability and validity of the battery and its usefulness in the neuropsychological examination of patients with schizophrenia. The results obtained provide suggestions to improve the provision of support.peerReviewe
