    Cylindrical nano-indentation on metal film/elastic substrate system with discrete dislocation plasticity analysis: A simple model for nano-indentation size effect

    AbstractThe cylindrical nano-indentation on metal film/elastic substrate is computationally studied using two-dimensional discrete dislocation plasticity combined with the commercial software ANSYS®, with a focus on the storage volume for geometrically necessary dislocations (GNDs) inside the films and the nano-indentation size effect (NISE). Our calculations show that almost all GNDs are stored in a rectangular area determined by the film thickness and the actual contact width. The variations of indentation contact width with indentation depth for various film thicknesses and indenter radii are fitted by an exponential relation, and then the GND density underneath the indenter is estimated. Based on the Taylor dislocation model and Tabor formula, a simple model for the dependence of the nano-indentation hardness of the film/substrate system on the indentation depth, the indenter radius and the film thickness is established, showing a good agreement with the present numerical results

    Maintaining the validity of inference from linear mixed models in stepped-wedge cluster randomized trials under misspecified random-effects structures

    Linear mixed models are commonly used in analyzing stepped-wedge cluster randomized trials (SW-CRTs). A key consideration for analyzing a SW-CRT is accounting for the potentially complex correlation structure, which can be achieved by specifying a random effects structure. Common random effects structures for a SW-CRT include random intercept, random cluster-by-period, and discrete-time decay. Recently, more complex structures, such as the random intervention structure, have been proposed. In practice, specifying appropriate random effects can be challenging. Robust variance estimators (RVE) may be applied to linear mixed models to provide consistent estimators of standard errors of fixed effect parameters in the presence of random-effects misspecification. However, there has been no empirical investigation of RVE for SW-CRT. In this paper, we first review five RVEs (both standard and small-sample bias-corrected RVEs) that are available for linear mixed models. We then describe a comprehensive simulation study to examine the performance of these RVEs for SW-CRTs with a continuous outcome under different data generators. For each data generator, we investigate whether the use of a RVE with either the random intercept model or the random cluster-by-period model is sufficient to provide valid statistical inference for fixed effect parameters, when these working models are subject to misspecification. Our results indicate that the random intercept and random cluster-by-period models with RVEs performed similarly. The CR3 RVE estimator, coupled with the number of clusters minus two degrees of freedom correction, consistently gave the best coverage results, but could be slightly anti-conservative when the number of clusters was below 16. We summarize the implications of our results for linear mixed model analysis of SW-CRTs in practice.Comment: Correct figure legend and table Typo

In this patient, we adopted the lower approach via the anomalous inferior vena cava and azygos continuation to achieve stability of radiofrequency catheter for right posteroseptal accessory pathway, and successfully abolished the preexcitation

    The following lists two main reasons for withdrawal for the public. 1. There are some problems in the method and results, and there is a lot of room for improvement. In terms of method, "Pre-trained Datasets (PD)" represents selecting a small amount from the online test set, which easily causes the model to overfit the online test set and could not obtain robust performance. More importantly, the proposed DFPENet has a high redundancy by combining the Attention Gate Mechanism and Gate Convolution Networks, and we need to revisit the section of geological feature fusion, in terms of results, we need to further improve and refine. 2. arXiv is an open-access repository of electronic preprints without peer reviews. However, for our own research, we need experts to provide comments on my work whether negative or positive. I then would use their comments to significantly improve this manuscript. Therefore, we finally decided to withdraw this manuscript in arXiv, and we will update to arXiv with the final accepted manuscript to facilitate more researchers to use our proposed comprehensive and general scheme to recognize and segment seismic landslides more efficiently.Comment: 1.     Adsorption Properties of Copper (II) Ion From Aqueous Solution by Starch-Grafted Polyacrylamide and Crosslinked Starch-Grafted Polyacrylamide

    Starch-grafted polyacrylamide (SA) and cross-linked starch-grafted polyacrylamide (CSA) had been synthesized via grafting polymerization from corn starch and used as adsorbents for the removal of Cu(II) ion from aqueous solution. The equilibrium, kinetics and thermodynamics of adsorption processes of SA and CSA were investigated and compared. It was found that the adsorption capacity of Cu(II) of SA and CSA could reach the maximum within 60 min when the pH was 6. The adsorption kinetics of CSA and SA for Cu(II) was favorably described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the adsorption isotherm was described well with the Freundlich isotherm model. Thermodynamic studies indicated that the adsorption was a spontaneous and endothermic process with increased entropy, and the rise of temperature would benefit the adsorption; the enthalpy change(ΔH), the entropy change (ΔS) and free energy change (ΔG) of the adsorption process of Cu(II) on SA and CSA were calculated with adsorption isotherm data and basic thermodynamic relations

    In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect and action mechanisms of pineapple leaf phenols (PLPs) on liver fat metabolism in high-fat diet-fed mice. Results show that PLP significantly reduced abdominal fat and liver lipid accumulation in high-fat diet-fed mice. The effects of PLP were comparable with those of FB. Furthermore, at the protein level, PLP upregulated the expression of carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT-1), whereas FB had no effects on CPT-1 compared with the HFD controls. Regarding mRNA expression, PLP mainly promoted the expression of CPT-1, PGC1a, UCP-1, and AMPK in the mitochondria, whereas FB mostly enhanced the expression of Ech1, Acox1, Acaa1, and Ehhadh in peroxisomes. PLP seemed to enhance fat metabolism in the mitochondria, whereas FB mainly exerted the effect in peroxisomes. In addition, p-coumaric acid (CA), one of the main components from PLP, significantly inhibited fat accumulation in oleic acid-induced HepG2 cells. CA also significantly upregulated CPT-1 mRNA and protein expressions in HepG2 cells. We, firstly, found that PLP enhanced liver fat metabolism by upregulating CPT-1 expression in the mitochondria and might be promising in treatment of fatty liver diseases as alternative natural products.
