    Observation of a near-threshold omega-J/psi mass enhancement in exclusive B-->K omega J/psi decays

    We report the observation of a near-threshold enhancement in the omega-J/psi invariant mass distribution for exclusive B-->K omega J/psi decays. The results are obtained from a 253 fb-1 data sample that contains 275 million BB-bar meson pairs that were collected near the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+e- collider. The statistical significance of the omega-J/psi mass enhancement is estimated to be greater than 8 sigma.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Physical Review Letter

    Search for the Lepton-Flavor-Violating Decay τμη\tau^- \to \mu^- \eta at Belle

    We have searched for the Lepton Flavor Violating decay τμη\tau^- \to \mu^- \eta using a data sample of 84.3 fb1^{-1} accumulated with the Belle detector at KEK. The η\eta-meson was detected through the decay modes: ηγγ\eta \to \gamma\gamma and π+ππ0\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0. No signal candidates are found, and we obtain an upper limit for the branching fraction B(τμη)<3.4×107{\cal B}(\tau^- \to \mu^- \eta)<3.4\times 10^{-7} at the 90% confidence level.Comment: Submitted to Phys.Rev.Let

    Observation of Ds+ K- and evidence for Ds+ pi- final states in neutral B decays

    We report the first observation of a B meson decay that is not accessible by a direct spectator process. The channel B0bar -> Ds+ K- is found in a sample of 85 timse 10^6 B Bbar events, collected with the Belle detector at KEKB, with a branching fraction Br(B0bar -> Ds+ K-)=(4.6^{+1.2}_{-1.1} +- 1.3) times 10^{-5}. We also obtain evidence for the B0 -> Ds+ pi- decay with branching fraction Br(B0 -> Ds+ pi-)=(2.4^{+1.0}_{-0.8} +- 0.7) times 10^{-5}. This value may be used to extract a model-dependent value of |Vub|.Comment: Accepted to publication in Phys. Rev. Let

    Observation of B0->pi0pi0

    We report the first observation of the decay B0->pi0pi0, using a 253/fb data sample collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. The measured branching fraction is BF(B0->pi0pi0) = {2.32 +0.4-0.5(stat) +0.2-0.3(syst)} x 10^-6, with a significance of 5.8 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties.     Observation of B+ -> proton Lambdabar gamma

    We report the first observation of the radiative hyperonic B decay B+ -> proton Lambdabar gamma, using a 140 fb-1 data sample recorded on the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+e- collider. The measured branching fraction is B(B+ -> proton Lambdabar gamma) = (2.16 ^{+0.58}_{-0.53} +- 0.20) times 10^{-6}. A search for B+ -> proton Sigmabar gamma yields no significant signal, so we set a 90% confidence-level upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B+ -> proton Sigmabar gamma) < 3.3 times 10^{-6}.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, submitted to ICHEP2004, Beijing, Chin

    Study of B+- --> D_CP K+- and D^*_CP K+- decays

    We report a study of the modes D_CP K+- and D^*_CP K+- where D^(*) decays to CP eigenstates. The data sample used contains 275 x 10^6 BB events at the Upsilon(4S) resonance collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e^+ e^- collider.     Measurement of B0π+ππ+πB^0\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^- Decays and Search for B0ρ0ρ0B^0\to\rho^0\rho^0

    We report on a search for the decay B0ρ0ρ0B^0\to\rho^0\rho^0 and other charmless modes with a π+ππ+π\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^- final state, including B0ρ0π+πB^0\to\rho^0\pi^+\pi^-, non-resonant B04π±B^0\to 4\pi^{\pm}, B0ρ0f0(980)B^0\to\rho^0f_0(980), B0f0(980)f0(980)B^0\to f_0(980)f_0(980) and B0f0(980)π+πB^0\to f_0(980)\pi^+\pi^-. These results are obtained from a data sample containing 657 million BBB \overline B pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider. We set an upper limit on B(B0ρ0ρ0)\mathcal{B}(B^0\to\rho^0\rho^0) of 1.0×1061.0\times 10^{-6} at the 90% confidence level (C.L.). From our B0ρ0ρ0B^0\to\rho^0\rho^0 measurement and an isospin analysis, we determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa phase ϕ2\phi_2 to be 91.7±14.991.7 \pm 14.9 degrees. We find excesses in B0ρ0π+πB^0\to \rho^0\pi^+\pi^- and non-resonant B04π±B^0\to 4\pi^{\pm} with 1.3σ\sigma and 2.5σ\sigma significance, respectively. The corresponding branching fractions are less than 12.0×10612.0 \times 10^{-6} and 19.3×10619.3 \times 10^{-6} at the 90% C.L. In addition, we set 90% C.L. upper limits as follows: B(B0ρ0f0(980))<0.3×106\mathcal{B}(B^0\to\rho^0f_0(980))< 0.3 \times 10^{-6}, B(B0f0(980)f0(980))<0.1×106\mathcal{B}(B^0\to f_0(980)f_0(980))< 0.1 \times 10^{-6}, and B(B0f0(980)π+π)<3.8×106\mathcal{B}(B^0\to f_0(980)\pi^+\pi^-)< 3.8 \times 10^{-6}.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures.     Observation of B+- -> omega K+- Decay

    We report the first observation of the charmless two-body mode B±ωK±B^{\pm} \to \omega K^{\pm} decay, and a new measurement of the branching fraction for the B±ωπ±B^{\pm} \to \omega \pi^{\pm} decay. The measured branching fractions are B(B±ωK±)=(9.22.3+2.6±1.0)×106{\cal B} (B^{\pm} \to \omega K^{\pm}) = (9.2{}^{+2.6}_{-2.3}\pm 1.0) \times 10^{-6} and B(B±ωπ±)=(4.21.8+2.0±0.5)×106{\cal B} (B^{\pm} \to \omega \pi^{\pm}) = (4.2{}^{+2.0}_{-1.8}\pm 0.5) \times 10^{-6}. %and we set 90% confidence level upper limits of %B(Bωπ)<8.1×106{\cal B} (B^- \to \omega \pi^-) < 8.1\times 10^{-6}. We also measure the partial rate asymmetry of B±ωK±B^{\pm}\to\omega K^{\pm} decays and obtain ACP=0.21±0.28±0.03{\cal A}_{CP} = -0.21 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.03. The results are based on a data sample of 29.4 fb1^{-1} collected on the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ee^{+} e^{-} collider.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, resubmitted to Phys.     Observation of Mixing-induced CP Violation in the Neutral B Meson System

    This report describes an observation of mixing-induced CP violation and a measurement of the CP violation parameter, sin(2phi_1), with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e+e- collider. Using a data sample of 29.1 fb-1 recorded on the Upsilon(4S) resonance that contains 31.3 million BBbar pairs, we reconstruct decays of neutral B mesons to the following CP eigenstates: J/psi K_S^0, psi(2S) K_S^0, chi_c1 K_S^0, eta_c K_S^0, J/psi K_L^0 and J/psi K^*0. The flavor of the accompanying B meson is identified by combining information from primary and secondary leptons, K+/- mesons, lambda baryons, slow and fast pions. The proper-time interval between the two B meson decays is determined from the distance between the two decay vertices measured with a silicon vertex detector. The result sin(2phi_1) = 0.99 +/- 0.14(stat) +/- 0.06(syst) is obtained by applying a maximum likelihood fit to the 1137 candidate events. We conclude that there is large CP violation in the neutral B meson system. A zero value for sin(2phi_1) is ruled out by more than six standard deviations.Comment: 25 pages, 16 figures, accepted for publication in Physical Review

    Measurement of K^+K^- production in two-photon collisions in the resonant-mass region

    K^+K^- production in two-photon collisions has been studied using a large data sample of 67 fb^{-1} accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e^+e^- collider. We have measured the cross section for the process gamma gamma -> K^+ K^- for center-of-mass energies between 1.4 and 2.4 GeV, and found three new resonant structures in the energy region between 1.6 and 2.4 GeV.
