Analytic Model for Advection-Dominated Accretion Flows in a Global Magnetic Field
A model for advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) in a global magnetic
field is proposed. In contrast to the well known ADAF models in which the
viscosity of a fluid determines both angular momentum transfer and energy
dissipation in the flow, the magnetic field and the electric resistivity,
respectively, control them in this model. A manageable set of analytic
solutions for the flow and the magnetic field is obtained to vertically
non-integrated basic equations. This set describes mathematically a fully
advective accretion flow and, in physically plausible situations for most AGNs,
it is also confirmed that the radiation cooling estimated on this solution is
really negligible compared with the internal energy of the flow.Comment: 27pages, 1 figure, to appear in ApJ vol 529, Feb.1, 200
New Supporting Evidence for the Overdensity of Galaxies around the Radio-Loud Quasar SDSS J0836+0054 at z =5.8
Recently, Zheng et al. (2005) found evidence for an overdensity of galaxies
around a radio-loud quasar, SDSS J0836+0054, at z=5.8 (a five arcmin
region). We have examined our deep optical imaging data (B, V, r', i', z', and
NB816) taken with the Suprime-Cam on the Subaru Telescope. The NB816
narrow-band filter (lambda_c = 815 nm and nm) is suitable
for searching for Ly emitters at . We have found a new
strong Ly emitter at close to object B identified by
Zheng et al. Further, the non detection of the nine objects selected by Zheng
et al. (2005) in our B, V, and r' images provides supporting evidence that they
are high-z objects.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure, accepted for PAS
Strong Emission-Line Galaxies at Low Redshift in the Field around the Quasar SDSSp J104433.04-012502.2
We discuss observational properties of strong emission-line galaxies at low
redshift found by our deep imaging survey for high-redshift Ly alpha emitters.
In our surveys, we used the narrowband filter, NB816 (lambda_center=8150A with
FWHM = 120A), and the intermediate-band filter, IA827 (lambda_center = 8270A
with FWHM = 340A). In this survey, 62 NB816-excess (> 0.9 mag) and 21
IA827-excess (> 0.8 mag) objects were found. Among them, we found 20
NB816-excess and 4 IA827-excess Ly alpha emitter candidates. Therefore, it
turns out that 42 NB816-excess and 17 IA827-excess objects are strong
emission-line objects at lower redshift. Since 4 objects in the two low-z
samples are common, the total number of strong low-z emitters is 55. Applying
our photometric redshift technique, we identify 7 H alpha emitters at z~0.24,
20 H beta-[OIII] ones at z~0.65, and 11 [OII] ones at z~1.19. However, we
cannot determine reliable photometric redshifts of the remaining 17 emitters.
The distributions of their rest frame equivalent widths are consistently
understood with recent studies of galaxy evolution from z~1 to z~0.Comment: 28 pages, 8 figures, PASJ, Vol. 58, No. 1, in pres
Tunneling and rattling in clathrate crystal
We present tunneling and rattling motions of an off-center guest atom in cage
referring to a clathrate crystal La_3Pd_{20}Ge_6. The elastic constant C_{44}
of La_3Pd_{20}Ge_6 shows a Debye-type dispersion around 20 K obeying a
relaxation time tau = tau_0exp(E/k_{B}T) with an attempt time tau_0 =
2.0*10^{-12} sec and an activation energy E = 197 K. At low temperatures below
3 K down to 20 mK, the C_{44} shows a softening of C_{44} =
C_{44}^0(T-T_C^0)/(T-Theta) with T_C^0 = -337.970 mK and Theta = -338.044 mK.
These facts are attributed to two different types of the off-center motions
with Gamma_5 symmetry in 4a-site cage of La_3Pd_{20}Ge_6, a thermally activated
rattling motion over the potential hill and a tunneling motion through the
potential hill at low temperatures.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, to be published Phys. Rev.
A New Basis Function Approach to 't Hooft-Bergknoff-Eller Equations
We analytically and numerically investigate the 't Hooft-Bergknoff-Eller
equations, the lowest order mesonic Light-Front Tamm-Dancoff equations for
U(N_C) and SU(N_C) gauge theories. We find the wavefunction can be well
approximated by new basis functions and obtain an analytic formula for the mass
of the lightest bound state. Its value is consistent with the precedent
results.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figure
Integrable Impurity Model with Spin and Flavour: Model Inspired by Resonant Tunneling in Quantum Dot
We introduce an integrable impurity model in which both electrons and
impurity have spin and flavour degrees of freedom. This model is a
generalization of the multi-channel Kondo model and closely related with
resonant tunneling through quantum dot. The Hamiltonian is exactly diagonalized
by means of the Bethe ansatz.Comment: 1 reference is adde
Stabilizing dilaton and baryogenesis
Entropy production by the dilaton decay is studied in the model where the
dilaton acquires potential via gaugino condensation in the hidden gauge group.
Its effect on the Affleck-Dine baryogenesis is investigated with and without
non-renormalizable terms in the potential. It is shown that the baryon
asymmetry produced by this mechanism with the higher-dimensional terms is
diluted by the dilaton decay and can be regulated to the observed value.Comment: 20 pages, 3 figures, baryon asymmetry revised, errors corrected,

Crystal Structure of Cas9 in Complex with Guide RNA and Target DNA
The CRISPR-associated endonuclease Cas9 can be targeted to specific genomic loci by single guide RNAs (sgRNAs). Here, we report the crystal structure of Streptococcus pyogenes Cas9 in complex with sgRNA and its target DNA at 2.5 Å resolution. The structure revealed a bilobed architecture composed of target recognition and nuclease lobes, accommodating the sgRNA:DNA heteroduplex in a positively charged groove at their interface. Whereas the recognition lobe is essential for binding sgRNA and DNA, the nuclease lobe contains the HNH and RuvC nuclease domains, which are properly positioned for cleavage of the complementary and noncomplementary strands of the target DNA, respectively. The nuclease lobe also contains a carboxyl-terminal domain responsible for the interaction with the protospacer adjacent motif (PAM). This high-resolution structure and accompanying functional analyses have revealed the molecular mechanism of RNA-guided DNA targeting by Cas9, thus paving the way for the rational design of new, versatile genome-editing technologies.National Institutes of Health (U.S.) (Grant 5DP1-MH100706
Constraining Almost Degenerate Three-Flavor Neutrinos
We discuss constraints on a scenario of almost degenerate three-flavor
neutrinos imposed by the solar and the atmospheric neutrino anomalies, hot dark
matter, and neutrinoless double decays. It is found that in the
Majorana version of the model the region with relatively large is
favored and a constraint on the CP violating phases is obtained.Comment: 19 pages (uses revtex), including 6 figures (uses epsf
