Neural Network Local Navigation of Mobile Robots in a Moving Obstacles Environment
IF AC Intelligent Components and Instruments for Control Applications, Budapest, Hungary, 1994This paper presents a local navigation method based on generalized predictive control. A modified cost function to avoid moving and static obstacles is presented. An Extended Kaiman Filter is proposed to predict the motions of the obstacles. A Neural Network implementation of this method is analysed. Simulation results are shown.Ministerio de Ciencia y TecnologÃa TAP93-0408Ministerio de Ciencia y TecnologÃa TAP93-058
Heavy mesons in the Quark Model
Since the discovery of the , the quark model was very successful in
describing the spectrum and properties of heavy mesons including only
components. However since 2003, with the discovery of the , many
states that can not be accommodated on the naive quark model have been
discovered, and they made unavoidable to include higher Fock components on the
heavy meson states. We will give an overview of the success of the quark model
for heavy mesons and point some of the states that are likely to be more
complicated structures such as meson-meson molecules.Comment: Contribution to the Proceedings of the 15th International Workshop on

Puzzles in quarkonium hadronic transitions with two pion emission
The anomalously large rates of some hadronic transitions from quarkonium are
studied using QCD multipole expansion (QCDME) in the framework of a constituent
quark model which has been successful in describing hadronic phenomenology. The
hybrid intermediate states needed in the QCDME method are calculated in a
natural extension of our constituent quark model based on the Quark Confining
String (QCS) scheme. Some of the anomalies are explained due to the presence of
an hybrid state with a mass near the mass of the decaying resonance whereas
other are justified by the presence of molecular components in the wave
function. Some unexpected results are pointed out.Comment: Conference proceedings of the XI Quark Confinement and the Hadron

Multifunctional Magnetoelectric Materials for Device Applications
Mutiferroics are a novel class of next generation multifunctional materials,
which display simultaneous magnetic spin, electric dipole, and ferroelastic
ordering, and have drawn increasing interest due to their multi-functionality
for a variety of device applications. Since single-phase materials exist rarely
in nature with such cross-coupling properties, an intensive research activity
is being pursued towards the discovery of new single-phase multiferroic
materials and the design of new engineered materials with strong
magneto-electric (ME) coupling. This review article summarizes the development
of different kinds of multiferroic material: single-phase and composite
ceramic, laminated composite, and nanostructured thin films. Thin-film
nanostructures have higher magnitude direct ME coupling values and clear
evidence of indirect ME coupling compared with bulk materials. Promising ME
coupling coefficients have been reported in laminated composite materials in
which signal to noise ratio is good for device fabrication. We describe the
possible applications of these materials
Relative periodic orbits in point vortex systems
We give a method to determine relative periodic orbits in point vortex
systems: it consists mainly into perform a symplectic reduction on a fixed
point submanifold in order to obtain a two-dimensional reduced phase space. The
method is applied to point vortices systems on a sphere and on the plane, but
works for other surfaces with isotropy (cylinder, ellipsoid, ...). The method
permits also to determine some relative equilibria and heteroclinic cycles
connecting these relative equilibria.Comment: 27 pages, 17 figure
The X(3872) and other possible molecular states
We perform a coupled channel calculation of the and sectors
in the framework of a constituent quark model. The interaction for the
states is obtained using the Resonant Group Method (RGM) and the underlying
quark interaction model. The coupling with the two quark system is performed
using the model. The X(3872) is found as a molecular state with a
sizable component. A comparison with Belle and BaBar data has been
done, finding a good agreement. Other possible molecular molecular states are
discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, Proceedings to the Hadron 2009 - XIII

Aperture-free star formation rate of SDSS star-forming galaxies
Large area surveys with a high number of galaxies observed have undoubtedly
marked a milestone in the understanding of several properties of galaxies, such
as star-formation history, morphology, and metallicity. However, in many cases,
these surveys provide fluxes from fixed small apertures (e.g. fibre), which
cover a scant fraction of the galaxy, compelling us to use aperture corrections
to study the global properties of galaxies. In this work, we derive the current
total star formation rate (SFR) of Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) star-forming
galaxies, using an empirically based aperture correction of the measured flux for the first time, thus minimising the uncertainties associated
with reduced apertures. All the fluxes have been
extinction-corrected using the ratio free from aperture
effects. The total SFR for 210,000 SDSS star-forming galaxies has been
derived applying pure empirical and aperture
corrections based on the Calar Alto Legacy Integral Field Area (CALIFA) survey.
We find that, on average, the aperture-corrected SFR is 0.65dex higher
than the SDSS fibre-based SFR. The relation between the SFR and stellar mass
for SDSS star-forming galaxies (SFR--) has been obtained, together
with its dependence on extinction and equivalent width. We
compare our results with those obtained in previous works and examine the
behaviour of the derived SFR in six redshift bins, over the redshift range . The SFR-- sequence derived here is in
agreement with selected observational studies based on integral field
spectroscopy of individual galaxies as well as with the predictions of recent
theoretical models of disc galaxies
