[ENG] There are several post-harvest technologies with great relevance reducing the pathological and/or physiological deterioration that takes place along the food chain in fresh fruits and vegetables. We establish here the role of these technologies in the quality assurance area, emphasizing both their role in the “planning for quality”, but also the importance that the technology must have reducing the variability in the result between the different lots of the fresh produce
Detección del ahuecado interno en sandía sin semillas usando métodos acústicos.
Hollow heart is a problem quite specific to seedless watermelon, affecting to all varieties. Percentage of fruits affected range from nil to up to more than 50% of the fruits. The acoustic impulse response of 158 watermelons was measured using a prepolarized free-field microphone. After carrying out a fast Fourier transformation on the time signal of the generated sound several acoustic parameters were evaluated. Values of spectral density were significantly different between 'good watermelons' and 'hollow heart watermelons'
Pathogen identification and control of sooty spot caused by Cladosporium ramotenellum, appearing on fresh easy peeler mandarins from Perú
During the 2018 season, superficial dry and firm black spots, where sometimes an aerial mycelium developed, appeared on the rind of easy peeler mandarins causing high economic losses in fresh citrus exports from Perú. In this work, we have identified the causal agent, a species of Cladosporium not previously reported as a citrus pathogen. The pathogen was isolated from rind lesions of affected fruit and was identified by sequencing as Cladosporium ramotenellum; and fulfilment of Koch postulates was proven. This species was present on the surface of immature fruit in the groves, indicating that the infection is likely initiated before harvest. Cladosporium ramotenellum is resistant to the postharvest fungicides imazalil, pyrimethanil, and thiabendazole, but sensitive to propiconazole, prochloraz, and ortho-phenylphenol. We designed a postharvest industrial treatment to decrease the Cladosporium sp. load on the fruit surface that limited the incidence of infection and reduced the postharvest losses caused by the fungus. Although this species is quite ubiquitous, this is the first description of C. ramotenellum causing decay of citrus fruit, being the symptoms of this disease similar to the ones described previously and caused by Cladosporium cladosporoides in cv. Satsuma mandarins from Japan
Calidad interna en sandías y métodos acústicos
Se describen los problemas de ahuecado presentes en las sandías apirenas y se presentan los métodos acústicos como procedimiento no destructivo para la detección de unidades con este problema
Current methods for detecting ethylene in plants.
In view of ethylene's critical developmental and physiological roles the gaseous hormone remains an active research topic for plant biologists. Progress has been made to understand the ethylene biosynthesis pathway and the mechanisms of perception and action. Still numerous questions need to be answered and findings to be validated. Monitoring gas production will very often complete the picture of any ethylene research topic. Therefore the search for suitable ethylene measuring methods for various plant samples either in the field, greenhouses, laboratories or storage facilities is strongly motivated.Journal ArticleResearch Support, Non-U.S. Gov'tSCOPUS: re.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
