    Music symbol recognition

    Get PDF
This paper focuses on optical music recognition (OMR) system that recognizes the musical symbols on a digitized music sheet and converts them into symbolic music representation. Two main stages are distinguished ? pre-processing and symbol analysis. In the pre-processing stage, staves are detected and removed; while in the symbol analysis stage, each musical symbol is recognized and analyzed. The musical semantics are then determined and converted into symbolic music representation stored in text form

Rising Crude Prices’ Impact – To understand the impact of the volatility of crude oil market over the Singapore economy and also on the Singapore oil companies

Recent economic and geopolitical events have significantly impacted the crude oil prices worldwide with US crude reaching record highs above $78 dollars per barrel on July 14, 2006. Although the consequences and transmission mechanisms of oil price shocks have been investigated to some extent for developed economies, the impact volatility and rise of oil price on developing countries and emerging market economies (EMEs) have yet to be explored. Established in 1969, Singapore Petroleum Company Ltd (SPC) has become one of the lead players in the local oil industry of Singapore. SPC provides its services in the areas of oil and gas exploration, refining, terminalling and distribution, marketing and trading of crude and refined petroleum products and is the only independent oil refiner in Singapore. Like the rest of the world, the impact of volatility in crude oil prices, SPC has also impacted significantly by swings in refining margins which arise from the interplay of demand and supply for crude oil and refined products. This study aimed at exploring the impact of volatility of crude oil prices on the Singaporean economy in general and particularly on the Singapore oil companies. For this purpose, the meta-analysis method was utilized in order to explore and examine the relevant data and research on the topic and perform a meta-analysis of this data. Data on crude oil, volatility in oil prices and its influence on crude oil companies in Singapore were researched. The research criteria covered the period from 1995 to data and examined the trends in oil markets of USA, Gulf States and the Singapore Petroleum Company Ltd (SPC). First of all, the mechanism of crude oil prices was examined which revealed that in the late 1980s, price formulas were adopted to set export prices. This involved use of three indices for sales of Middle Eastern crudes to various regions: West Texas Intermediate for sales to the US, Brent for sales to Europe, and a combination of Dubai and Oman for sales to the Asia- Pacific region. In general, marker crude would fulfill certain implicit criteria in that it should be a good representative of all the alternative crudes available to buyers in the region in terms of gravity and sulfur content, produced in significant volumes, and should be liquid, i.e., significantly traded in the physical market. However, such mechanism is not going to be sustained for long due to the fact that an increasing need to cut costs by the Asian refiners would result in the need for more competitive deals. Furthermore, the increasing trend of imports of Atlantic Basin crudes (which are priced off Brent) into Asia-Pacific countries may further pressure Middle Eastern producers to reduce, if not remove, the Eastern Premium. Being a small economy Singapore is a price taker in global trade, that is why, fluctuations in crude oil prices have powerful effects on the economy

In the highly competitive marketplace, marketers for the skin care product are facing challenges with identifying the consumer’s brand perception and brand satisfaction. Brand satisfaction is perceived as an important issue on skin care industry. Obviously, customers are the important stakeholders in organizations and their satisfaction is a priority to the company. This study aims to investigate the relationship between brand perceptions and brand satisfaction on skin care products with four independent variables (quality, promotion, image and preference). This study employed the statistic software of SPSS version 19.0 to evaluate 200 sets of questionnaires which collected from students, undergraduates, working adults and other respondents. The findings in this study shows that the brand perceptions on quality, image and preference have positive and significant relationship with brand satisfaction on skin care products. However, the relationship between brand perception on promotion and brand satisfaction is being rejected. Thus, the marketers can focus on perception on quality, image and preference to increase customers’ brand satisfaction to capture and retain them

Introduction: dengue fever is a viral disease widely distributed in tropical areas, influenced by climatic factors and the presence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The economic burden on health services is a key factor in endemic locations. Objective: to describe the knowledge, attitudes and practices of schoolchildren concerning dengue fever in Lambayeque, Peru. Methods: an observational, descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from April to June 2019 in secondary schools in the districts of Lambayeque, Peru. Fifty-two students were chosen through simple random sample. Each student was given a structured questionnaire previously validated. Results: thirty-eight valid surveys were selected, where 53,85 % of which were from rural schools; 94 % expressed knowledge of dengue, 47 % reported receiving the information by television; 28 % recognized fever, vomiting and diarrhea as the main symptoms. The 89 % reported water tanks as the main breeding ground, 86 % recognized the disease as a serious problem and 87 % said it could be prevented or controlled. While the 89 % agreed that it is people's responsibility to prevent dengue fever and 95 % agreed on the need to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. Conclusions: secondary school students in Lambayeque have a low level of knowledge regarding the causal agent, transmission route and symptoms of dengue fever. Knowledge about attitudes and practices regarding this disease was high. BACKGROUND: Protection offered by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines wanes over time, requiring an evaluation of different boosting strategies to revert such a trend and enhance the quantity and quality of Spike-specific humoral and cellular immune responses. These immunological parameters in homologous or heterologous vaccination boosts have thus far been studied for mRNA and ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccines, but knowledge on individuals who received a single dose of Ad26.COV2.S is lacking. METHODS: We studied Spike-specific humoral and cellular immunity in Ad26.COV2.S-vaccinated individuals (n = 55) who were either primed with Ad26.COV2.S only (n = 13) or were boosted with a homologous (Ad26.COV2.S, n = 28) or heterologous (BNT162b2, n = 14) second dose. We compared our findings with the results found in individuals vaccinated with a single (n = 16) or double (n = 44) dose of BNT162b2. FINDINGS: We observed that a strategy of heterologous vaccination enhanced the quantity and breadth of both Spike-specific humoral and cellular immunity in Ad26.COV2.S-vaccinated individuals. In contrast, the impact of the homologous boost was quantitatively minimal in Ad26.COV2.S-vaccinated individuals, and Spike-specific antibodies and T cells were narrowly focused to the S1 region. CONCLUSIONS: Despite the small sample size of the study and the lack of well-defined correlates of protection against COVID-19, the immunological features detected support the utilization of a heterologous vaccine boost in individuals who received Ad26.COV2.S vaccination.
