Small industry development in Malaysia : incentive utilization and regional differences
The database from the Brazilian Research Council (CNPq), and some descriptive data from the Brazilian university survey are used as resources from which to derive and examine patterns of university-industry linkages in Brazil. This database allows identification of 2,151 interactive research groups in Brazil, the population base for the questionnaires. An important role is played by the university through academic research in the creation and diffusion of new knowledge among firms. In general, the analysis of the data shows that the interaction between universities and firms can benefit both when there is bidirectional flow of information
Malaysia: In Pursuit of Newly Industrializing Economy Status
Malaysia has an ambitious economic vision: it has set its sights on joining the ranks of the newly industrializing economies (NIEs). It hopes to achieve this goal within the next decade, by building up an advanced export-oriented manufacturing structure alongside a vibrant agriculture sector. While the modernization and diversification of agriculture would be achieved through the acceleration of new land development schemes as well as the cultivation of new crops, apart from existing rubber and oil palm, the speeding up of industrialization would be attained through a multipronged coordinated strategy

The evolution of wage differentials in Singapore
78 p.For the past thirty years, Singapore has experienced major structural change and economic growth. With the population being her main resource, the government has focused considerable attention on the labour market and its wage structure. In this applied research project, we analysed the evolution of wage differentials from 1979 to 1994 in hopes of understanding the effect these changes have on the people in terms of income distribution. From the data found in the annual Reports on the Labour Force of Singapore, we computed the average monthly income of employed persons by education attainment, occupational group, sector and gender. Using wage differential ratios, real average earnings growth rates and other indicators, we have concluded that wage differentials are indeed narrowing from 1979-1994 with respect to educational attainment, occupational groups, sectors and gender. Hence, it is an indication that income distribution in Singapore is improving in terms of wage levels.ACCOUNTANC
