ASYMMETRIC 1,3-DIPOLAR CYCLOADDITION REACTIONS OF AZOMETHINE IMINES WITH ACROLEIN CATALYZED BY L-PROLINE AND ITS DERIVATIVES

    Get PDF
1,3-Dipolar cycloadditions between acrolein and various N,N'-cyclic azomethine imines in the presence of L-proline and its derivatives as organocatalysts were investigated. Reactions that were catalyzed by (S)-indline-2-carboxylic acid (30 mol%) in CHCl3/MeOH 97:3 (v/v) showed high exo-selectivities (exolendo 91:9 similar to 99:1) and enantioselectivities (75 similar to 98% ee). In contrast, reactions catalyzed by L-proline (30 mol%) under similar conditions favored the endo-cycloadduct (83:27 similar to 99:1) with modest to good enantioselectivities (31 similar to 83% ee). Based on our studies, the diastereoselective mechanism of the L-proline-catalyzed reaction was found to involve the isomerization of the exo- to the endo-cycloadduct in the presence of L-proline.ArticleHETEROCYCLES. 81(7):1669-1688 (2010)journal articl

GaInAsP/InP membrane lasers for optical interconnects

In this paper, the state-of-the art of long-wavelength GaInAsP/InP membrane semiconductor lasers, one of the most promising candidate light sources for optical interconnects and on-chip optical wiring between large-scale integrated circuits, is described. After an extensive review of research activities focused on laser preparation on either Si or Si-on-insulator substrate, the findings of our recent research activities on low power consumption lasers are presented. Specifically, our interest was set on the low-damage fabrication of strongly index-coupled grating, which is generally opted forDFB and distributed reflector (DR) lasers consisting of wire-like active regions, as well as of high index-contrast membrane waveguides. A submilliampere threshold current and a differential quantum efficiency close to 50 from the front facet were achieved in the case of the DR laser. On the other hand, a lateral current injection (LCI) structure, which can be combined with the membrane laser, was adopted for the realization of an injection-type membrane laser. The successful continuous wave operation of LCI lasers, prepared on a semiinsulating InP substrate, was achieved with moderately low threshold current at room temperature. © 2011 IEEE

金沢大学理工研究域電子情報学系A room-temperature pulsed operation was demonstrated using lateral current injection-type lasers composed of a 400-nm-thick GaInAsP core layer with compressively strained 5 quantum wells. A threshold current of 105 mA and corresponding density of 1.3 kA/cm2 (260 A/cm2 per well) were obtained with the stripe width of 5.4 μm and the cavity length of 1.47 mm. A fundamental transverse mode operation was obtained with the narrower stripe device of 2.0 μm and the cavity length of 805 μm, while the threshold current and corresponding density were 49 mA and 3.0 kA/cm 2, respectively. © 2009 Optical Society of America

Design Study of CANGAROO-III, Stereoscopic Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes for sub-TeV Gamma-ray

    Get PDF
CANGAROO-III is an Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (IACT) array of four 10 m telescopes for very high energy (sub-TeV) gamma-ray astronomy. A design study of the CANGAROO-III telescope system was carried out using the Monte Carlo technique in order to optimize the pixel size and the telescope spacing. Studies were also made of observations at low elevation angles.Comment: 17pages, 13 figures, elsart, to appear in Astro. Part. Phy

Combined pure red cell aplasia and autoimmune hemolytic anemia in systemic lupus erythematosus with anti-erythropoietin autoantibodies

金沢大学医薬保健研究域医学系A 42-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus was admitted to our hospital because of severe anemia. Her bone marrow was almost normocellular and erythroblasts were nearly absent. Laboratory data showed elevated levels of lactate dehydrogenase and positive findings on Coombs\u27 tests. On the basis of these findings, her anemia was diagnosed as the overlap of pure red cell aplasia with autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Radioimmunoprecipitation assay revealed that her serum was positive for anti-erythropoietin antibodies before therapy. Furthermore, the autoantibodies inhibited proliferation of an erythropoietin-dependent cell line in a dose-dependent manner. Immunosuppressive treatment improved the anemia accompanied with disappearance of the autoantibodies. © 2008 Wiley-Liss, Inc

Detection of Gamma-rays around 1TeV from RX J0852.0-4622 by CANGAROO-II

We have detected gamma-ray emission at the 6sigma level at energies greater than 500GeV from the supernova remnant RX J0852.0-4622 (G266.2-1.2) using the CANGAROO-II Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (IACT). The flux was 0.12 times of that of Crab at 1TeV. The signal centroid is consistent with the peak of the X-ray emission in the north-west rim of the remnant.Comment: 12pages, 4figures, to be published in ApJ

Fibrocytes are involved in the pathogenesis of human chronic kidney disease

金沢大学医薬保健研究域医学系The presence of chronic kidney disease in humans is associated with a risk of kidney function loss as well as the development of cardiovascular disease. Fibrocytes have been shown to contribute to organ fibrosis. In this study, the presence of fibrocytes was investigated immunohistochemically in kidney biopsy specimens from 100 patients with chronic kidney disease. In addition, 6 patients with thin basement membrane disease were studied as a disease control. In patients with chronic kidney disease, the infiltration of fibrocytes was observed mainly in the interstitium. The number of interstitial fibrocytes in patients with chronic kidney disease was higher than that in patients with thin basement membrane disease. The number of infiltrated fibrocytes in the interstitium correlated well with the severity of tubulointerstitial lesions, such as interstitial fibrosis, in patients with chronic kidney disease. In addition, there were significant correlations between the number of interstitial fibrocytes and the number of CD68-positive macrophages in the interstitium as well as urinary monocyte chemoattractant protein-1/CCL2 levels. In particular, there was an inverse correlation between the number of interstitial fibrocytes and kidney function at the time of biopsy. Finally, the numbers of interstitial fibrocytes and macrophages as well as urinary CCL2 levels were significantly decreased during convalescence induced by glucocorticoid therapy. These results suggest that fibrocytes may be involved in the pathogenesis of chronic kidney disease through the interaction with macrophages as well as CCL2. © 2010 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved
