市販茶系飲料の抗変異原性と抗変異原性成分の定量

Sep-pak C18 extracts of nineteen commercially available tea drinks were examined for inhibitory effects on the mutagenicity for three nitroarenes using umu-test. Antimutagenic activity of tea drinks increased in the following order: blend tea drinks < green tea drinks < oolong tea drinks. Furthermore, anti-mutagens (EGC, C, EGCG, EC, ECG, ascorbic acid, gallic acid and caffeine) concentrations of nineteen commercially available tea drinks were determined by HPLC combined with UV detector and electro-chemical detector. Higher concentrations of EGCG and EGC were detected in green tea drinks than oolong tea drinks. Total mean concentration of five catechins in oolong tea drinks was less than half of one in green tea drinks. These results suggest that there is no correlation between antimutagenicity for nitroarenes and catechin concentrations in commercially available tea drinks

Body fat mass is correlated with serum transthyretin levels in maintenance hemodialysis patients

Serum transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, is a reliable nutritional indicator and an independent prognostic factor for maintenance hemodialysis patients. However, we recently reported that serum TTR levels did not affect protein−energy wasting (PEW). In this study, we investigated factors affecting serum TTR levels in 60 maintenance hemodialysis patients. The patients were divided into High-TTR and Low-TTR groups according to the median serum TTR level. Albumin levels were significantly higher and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were significantly lower in the High-TTR group than in the Low-TTR group. Although body fat mass was significantly higher in the High-TTR group than in the Low-TTR group, no significant difference in body fat ratio were observed. These findings suggest that body fat mass is related to serum TTR levels, apart from factors such as albumin and CRP levels, which showed correlations with serum TTR levels. Because body fat mass is related to better survival in maintenance hemodialysis patients, it may contribute to the prognostic value of serum TTR levels. In addition, in such patients, it may be important to evaluate body fatmass rather than body fat ratio and to maintain the minimum necessary body fat mass

An On-line Backup Function for a Clustered NAS System (X-NAS) _

An on-line backup function for X-NAS, a clustered NAS system designed for entry-level NAS, has been developed. The on-line backup function can replicate file objects on X-NAS to a remote NAS in real-time. It makes use of the virtualized global file system of X-NAS, and sends NFS write operations to both X-NAS and the remote backup NAS at the same time. The performance of the on-line backup function was evaluated and the evaluation results show that the on-line backup function of X-NAS improves the system reliability while maintaining 80 % of the throughput of the X-NAS without this function. 1
