Need for Teachers’ Preparation Ahead of the Clamour for Inclusion of Climate Charge in the Education Curriculum
This paper focuses on the need for teachers to prepare for the teaching of climate change since there is a heightened clamour for its inclusion in the education curriculum. This advocacy emanates from the emotional feelings brought about by the devastating effects of climate change-floods, droughts, etc that leads to lost of lives and property. The monstrous posture of the climate change effect and the strength of the advocacy for its inclusion in the education curriculum remains a signal for teachers to commence preparation for the teaching of the subject. The teachers in the primary education level know that they are duty bound to teach all the subjects hence it would be beneficial to them if they start preparing earlier. Some of the preparations include knowledge of climate change related issues and how to mitigate the challenges. Recommendations made include teachers should attend workshops, seminars, conferences; gather of materials; listen to news among other things. Overcoming Limitations of Women's Involvement in Sports and Physical Exercises in Nigeria: Implications for National Productivity and Economy
Sports and physical exercises are mirror of the society. The society is seen in sports and physical exercises just as sports and physical exercises are seen in the society. Physical exercises take place in a socio-cultural setting and are influenced by some socio-cultural forces. It is a global recognition especially among the feminists that women have equal right with men to participate in sports and physical exercises without any limitations. However, some societies including Nigeria have some socio-cultural barriers to women's involvement in physical exercises. The paper discusses the social, environmental, psychological, anatomical and physiological, and cultural limitations of women's involvement in sports and physical exercises in Nigeria, and their implications for national productivity and economy were highlighted. It was recommended among other things that adequate and accessible sports facilities and equipment should be made available for women at homes, workplaces and schools; more emphasis should be placed on sports and physical exercise education in all sectors of the society especially the educational institutions; and ministries of sports, culture and tourism, education and other sport-related institutions should sensitize people of the need for physical exercise by all. Examining the Ravaging COVID-19 Pandemic and its Implications for Educational Institutions on a Global Perspective
The study examined the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic and its implications for educational institutions on a global perspective. COVID-19 outbreak occurred in Wuhan City, China at the twilight of the year 2019 and spread like wild fire to other countries. Globally, over eight million people have been infected with the coronavirus, over four million people recovered and more than half a million deaths recorded due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The disease was so dreadful that various nations adopted the lockdown measure to forestall further spread. Consequently, educational institutions at all levels were shut-down along-side other sectors. Corollary to the above, it was found that the academic calendar would be affected; international students’ enrolment might reduce; schools that depend more on foreign students for funding may experience a down-turn during the period of COVID-19 outbreak; schools may not be able to be liberal with their financial aid offerings; private school owners may find it difficult to pay the salaries of their employees during the period of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic. It was however, recommended that schools should source revenue through entrepreneurial practices; the government of each country should allocate 26% of her annual budget to education sector; tuition fee for international students should be cut down by at least 20%; World Health Organization (WHO) should sponsor more research towards getting a vaccine for COVID-19
OSU/DIALA Caste System Impeding The Child’s Education And Social Development In Igbo Land, Nigeria: The Imperative Of Enthroning Godly Leaders And Human Rights Enforcement
This research focused on osu/diala caste system as impediment to the education and social development of the child in Igbo Land, Nigeria: The imperative of enthroning godly leaders and enforcing human rights. The Igbo is one of the major ethnic groups in Nigeria and geographically located in eastern Nigeria. The diala is regarded as freeborn and has unlimited opportunities and privileges. In contrast, the osu is regarded as slave and has limited privileges and rights. Under this caste system, social mobility across the two castes is not allowed to the extent that two consenting adults are often refused marriage by their parents on the reason of osu/diala caste system. The consenting adults either out of mistake or desperation give birth to children. Such children of circumstance unfortunately are denied their deserved parental care which include guidance, discipline, socialization, protection, education and provision of basic needs because there is no legitimate father hence no outstanding sponsor in school. It was found that those children hardly go to school because there is no sponsor and even if they go to school, they performed poorly because of challenges ranging from not knowing the surname to bear, being emotionally disturbed, being stigmatized, inability to provide basic school needs etc. The study concludes that osu/diala caste system does not only impedes the child’s education and social development but it is also discriminatory, obnoxious and retrogressive. It was however recommended among other things that Government should enforce Child’s Right Act; communities should choose leaders who are characterized by conscientiousness and godliness; National Orientation Agency (NOA) should enlighten the people on the evils associated with the osu/diala caste system
