Bonding machine for forming a solar array strip
A machine is described for attaching solar cells to a flexable substrate on which printed circuitry has been deposited. The strip is fed through: (1) a station in which solar cells are elevated into engagement with solder pads for the printed circuitry and thereafter heated by an infrared lamp; (2) a station at which flux and solder residue is removed; (3) a station at which electrical performance of the soldered cells is determined; (4) a station at which an encapsulating resin is deposited on the cells; (5) a station at which the encapsulated solar cells are examined for electrical performance; and (6) a final station at which the resulting array is wound on a takeup drum
Chiral symmetry breaking and stability of strangelets
We discuss the stability of strangelets by considering dynamical chiral
symmetry breaking and confinement. We use a
symmetric Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model for chiral symmetry breaking supplemented
by a boundary condition for confinement. It is shown that strangelets with
baryon number can stably exist. For the observables, we
obtain the masses and the charge-to-baryon number ratios of the strangelets.

Histochemical properties of sialic acids and antimicrobial substances in canine anal glands
The functional properties of sialic acids appear to be manifold. Additionally, antimicrobial substances serve as a non-specific defense against microorganisms. In this study, therefore, the localization of sialic acids and antimicrobial substances in the anal glands of dog was studied by sialoglycoconjugate histochemistry and immunohistochemistry. The secretory epithelium, luminal secretions and excretory ducts exhibited high levels of sialoglycoconjugates that terminated in Siaα2-6Gal/GalNAc or Siaα2-3Gal1-4GlcNAc. Additionally, O-acetylated sialic acids were detectable in these glandular structures. Antimicrobial substances, such as lysozyme, immunoglobulin A (IgA), lactoferrin and the peptide group of ÎČ-defensins, were also demonstrated as products of the anal glands. The results obtained are discussed with regard to the functional significance of the anal glands. These secretory products may create a defensive barrier against microbial invasion at the anal mucosa
The strength of frustration and quantum fluctuations in LiVCuO4
For the 1D-frustrated ferromagnetic J_1-J_2 model with interchain coupling
added, we analyze the dynamical and static structure factor S(k,omega), the
pitch angle phi of the magnetic structure, the magnetization curve of
edge-shared chain cuprates, and focus on LiCuVO4 for which neither a perturbed
spinon nor a spin wave approach can be applied. phi is found to be most
sensitive to the interplay of frustration and quantum fluctuations. For LiVCuO4
the obtained exchange parameters J are in accord with the results for a
realistic 5-band extended Hubbard model and LSDA + U predictions yielding
alpha=J_2/|J_1| about 0.75 in contrast to 5.5 > alpha > 1.42 suggested in the
literature. The alpha-regime of the empirical phi-values in NaCu2O2 and

A Deformation of Sasakian Structure in the Presence of Torsion and Supergravity Solutions
We discuss a deformation of Sasakian structure in the presence of totally
skew-symmetric torsion by introducing odd dimensional manifolds whose metric
cones are K\"ahler with torsion. It is shown that such a geometry inherits
similar properties to those of Sasakian geometry. As an example of them, we
present an explicit expression of local metrics and see how Sasakian structure
is deformed by the presence of torsion. We also demonstrate that our example of
the metrics admits the existence of hidden symmetries described by non-trivial
odd-rank generalized closed conformal Killing-Yano tensors. Furthermore, using
these metrics as an {\it ansatz}, we construct exact solutions in five
dimensional minimal (un-)gauged supergravity and eleven dimensional
supergravity. Finally, we discuss the global structures of the solutions and
obtain regular metrics on compact manifolds in five dimensions, which give
natural generalizations of Sasaki--Einstein manifolds and
. We also discuss regular metrics on non-compact manifolds in eleven

Magneto-Coulomb Oscillation in Ferromagnetic Single Electron Transistors
The mechanism of the magneto-Coulomb oscillation in ferromagnetic single
electron transistors (SET's) is theoretically considered. Variations in the
chemical potentials of the conduction electrons in the ferromagnetic island
electrode and the ferromagnetic lead electrodes in magnetic fields cause
changes in the free energy of the island electrode of the SET. Experimental
results of the magneto-Coulomb oscillation in a Ni/Co/Ni ferromagnetic SET are
presented and discussed. Possible applications of this phenomenon are also

Compact Einstein Spaces based on Quaternionic K\"ahler Manifolds
We investigate the Einstein equation with a positive cosmological constant
for -dimensional metrics on bundles over Quaternionic K\"ahler base
manifolds whose fibers are 4-dimensional Bianchi IX manifolds. The Einstein
equations are reduced to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations.
We numerically find inhomogeneous compact Einstein spaces with orbifold

Inhibition of HIF-1α by the anticancer drug TAS106 enhances X-ray-induced apoptosis in vitro and in vivo
In a previous study, we showed that a novel anticancer drug, 1-(3-C-ethynyl-ÎČ-D-ribo-pentofuranosyl)cytosine (TAS106, ECyd) increased the antitumour efficacy of X-irradiation. However, its effects on hypoxic cells in tumours remain unclarified. Here, we show that TAS106 enhances the induction of apoptosis in X-irradiated human gastric adenocarcinoma MKN45 and MKN28 cells under hypoxia in vitro. At the same time, the accumulation of HIF-1α observed under hypoxia was shown to be decreased to the level of normoxia in the presence of 0.1âÎŒM TAS106. To study the function of HIF-1α protein in apoptosis of hypoxic cells, we employed an HIF-1α reductive approach using its specific antisense oligodeoxynucleotide. The reduction of HIF-1α gene expression dramatically enhanced X-ray-induced apoptosis in hypoxic cells. In in vivo experiments in which MKN45 cells were transplanted into severe combined immunodeficient (SCID) mice, TAS106 (0.5âmgâkgâ1) suppressed HIF-1α expression and subsequently reduced the area of the hypoxic region in the tumour and enhanced the induction of apoptosis in the hypoxic region when combined with 2âGy of X-irradiation. These results suggest the possibility that TAS106 acts as a potent radiosensitiser through the inhibition of HIF-1α expression and can be a useful agent against radiotherapy-resistant hypoxic cells in solid tumours
