Influence of contacts on the microwave response of a two-dimensional electron stripe

Electromagnetic response of a finite-width two-dimensional electron stripe with attached metallic side contacts is theoretically studied. It is shown that contacts substantially influence the position, the linewidth, and the amplitude of plasmon-polariton resonances in the stripe. In finite magnetic fields, absorption of the wave with the inactive circular polarization (which is not absorbed in an infinite system without contacts) may become larger than that of the wave with the active polarization. The results are discussed in view of recent microwave experiments in two-dimensional electron systems.Comment: 13 pages, incl. 9 figures, the paper has been substantially modified and extended, new results have been added. Numerical solution and spectrum of boundary-domain integral equation for the Neumann BVP with variable coefficient

This is the post-print version of the Article. The official published version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2012 Taylor & Francis. In this paper, a numerical implementation of a direct united boundary-domain integral equation (BDIE) related to the Neumann boundary value problem for a scalar elliptic partial differential equation with a variable coefficient is discussed. The BDIE is reduced to a uniquely solvable one by adding an appropriate perturbation operator. The mesh-based discretization of the BDIEs with quadrilateral domain elements leads to a system of linear algebraic equations (discretized BDIE). Then, the system is solved by LU decomposition and Neumann iterations. Convergence of the iterative method is discussed in relation to the distribution of eigenvalues of the corresponding discrete operators calculated numerically. The work was supported by the grant EP/H020497/1 "Mathematical analysis of localised boundary-domain integral equations for BVPs with variable coefficients" of the EPSRC, UK

Microwave-induced magnetotransport phenomena in two-dimensional electron systems: Importance of electrodynamic effects

We discuss possible origins of recently discovered microwave induced photoresistance oscillations in very-high-electron-mobility two-dimensional electron systems. We show that electrodynamic effects -- the radiative decay, plasma oscillations, and retardation effects, -- are important under the experimental conditions, and that their inclusion in the theory is essential for understanding the discussed and related microwave induced magnetotransport phenomena.Comment: 5 pages, including 2 figures and 1 tabl

Numerical realization of spatial model of system building-base-ground

For example, a typical brick building is considered in the process of modeling and calculation of loaded deformed condition of the space system building-base-ground. The numerical implementation of the nonlinear problem in view of the structural destruction of materials by finite element method is in accordance with the developed algorithm. Crack propagation is presented in pattern and contour plots of stress and displacement, resulting from the calculation

Observation of inter-edge magnetoplasmon mode in a degenerate two-dimensional electron gas

    Get PDF
We study the propagation of edge magnetoplasmons by time-resolved current measurements in a sample which allows for selective detection of edge states in the quantum Hall regime. We observe two decoupled modes of edge and inter-edge magnetoplasmons at filling factors close to 3. From the analysis of the propagation velocities of each mode the internal spatial parameters of the edge structure are derived.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitte
