Evaluationen im Hochschul- und Schulbereich sind weit verbreitet und werden auch in der Erwachsenenbildung immer selbstverständlicher. Für Studierende der Erwachsenenbildung ist es daher umso wichtiger, sich mit Evaluationen und ihren Ergebnissen systematisch auseinanderzusetzen. In the recent decade it became more important to reflect about the work which is done in adult education, who is doing it and how he is qualified to do that. It is somehow the reaction on the shift to the learner, who is more and more seen as a self-directed and self-responsible actor apparently without the need of any professional help. Trends in Adult and Continuing Education in Germany

This contribution summarizes the most important trends in adult education in Germany as they were elaborated in a secondary analytic research project of the DIE (Deutsches Institut für Erwachsenenbildung – German Institute for Adult Education) in 2007. According to the study, participation in continuing education in Germany is increasing after long years of decrease, even though, overall, financing of adult education has been further reduced. Cooperation as well as competition between continuing education institutions has increased. Course offers have become shorter, counselling and information have more significant roles than in the past, and those employed in adult education, especially teaching staff, have a higher level of qualifications than before. Adult education policy in Germany has varying aims as a result of the federal structure of the country. Incentives for vocational and workplace training predominate however

Europäische Perspektiven in der Erwachsenenbildung

Die Europäische Union hat in den vergangenen Dekaden starken Einfluss auf die Bildungssysteme ihrer Mitgliedstaaten genommen. Waren die Aktivitäten der Union zunächst in einem begrenzten wirtschaftspolitischen Rahmen auszumachen, zeichnet sich mittlerweile die Herausbildung einer eigenständigen europäischen Erwachsenenbildungspolitik ab. Umgekehrt ist unübersehbar, dass die Erwachsenenbildung für das Gelingen der europäischen Integration unverzichtbar ist, indem sie über europäische Zusammenhänge aufklärt und das gegenseitige Verständnis fördert. Der Studientext will zu einem tieferen Verstehen dieser Entwicklungen beitragen. Hierfür werden die zentralen Inhalte, Akteure und Instrumente der europäischen Bildungspolitik vorgestellt.
