A comunicação, numa
administradores termais.
Tourism is an area, at present, with immense expansion potential in the region
of Viseu and more specifically in relation to thermal spas, both in continuing
with the quality of its classic hydrotherapy or with the consolidation of the
Health and Welfare sector. Communication is very important in a company but
in order increase effectiveness, the use of foreign languages is essential, to
enhance the international competitiveness of Portuguese companies. With a
view to answering the central question of this study: what are the thermal spas
of Viseu doing in order to effectively communicate their products to different
publics and the importance of boosting the effort to generate better and more
effective communication tools which will aid in incrementing economic and
social development. We surveyed and analyzed the information sources used
in thermal spas, in the Viseu region, and applied questionnaires to the
stakeholders and participants in the thermal treatment process. Bearing in mind
its key issue, the study consists of four chapters, with an introduction, where
the study is presented. The first chapter explores the theoretical framework,
where the confluence of Systemic Functional Linguistics, Tourism in Portugal
and Communication of Information is surveyed and discussed. The second
presents the research methodology adopted in this project, the third presents
the analysis of data collected on the websites of the Viseu spas, brochures,
through questionnaires to receptionists, the medical staff, administrators of the
baths, mayors, the visitors and the promoting entities of these spas. The third
chapter ends with a final clarification dialogue with the mayors of the places
under study and the administrators of these thermal spas. In the final chapter
the main conclusions of the study highlight the importance that foreign
languages have in communicating spa services and products internationally as
well as the need to implement effective communication, so that the spas can
attain increasingly profitable results
Tourism is, today, an enormous business enterprise, which employs millions of people throughout the world engaging the economic, social and cultural attention of users and providers in its services and its products.
Globalisation has made English the lingua franca of Tourism. For this reason, the specific needs of the community, the profession and the students of tourism were analysed, with the aim of developing the knowledge and competences needed to contribute to the improvement of the tourism sector in Portugal.
This study analyses the professional domains, the specific genres, thesituational contexts and the communication tools of tourism in Portugal. Itpresents the results of the needs analysis carried out on the target communityof the Tourism Course of the Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Viseu.
Based on the results of this study, I have designed a course plan, withstrategies for the teaching of English for Specific Purposes and have created oradapted some materials
What is the basic profile of the person who wishes to work effectively in tourism?
Tourism is one of the biggest industries in the world. English is presently the way to face globalization and to establish a bridge between peoples. A Tourism course should enable its students to become qualified professionals, to be responsible for their work, to develop self-study strategies, without ever forgetting that each one is an individual and has his/her own characteristics. That is why every ESP course should be learner-centered; the world can became a village without every place loosing its singularities. In this article I have made a brief overview of English for Specific Purposes and discussed Needs Analysis. I consider the importance of students possessing soft-skills and I have also presented the most important professional and self-promotion genres, the situational contexts, professional domains for ESP and the special software needs of students of Tourism. I also proposed some basic competences and attitudes the Tourism operator must aim for

NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES: a data set on carnivore distribution in the Neotropics
Mammalian carnivores are considered a key group in maintaining ecological health and can indicate potential ecological integrity in landscapes where they occur. Carnivores also hold high conservation value and their habitat requirements can guide management and conservation plans. The order Carnivora has 84 species from 8 families in the Neotropical region: Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Otariidae; Phocidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae. Herein, we include published and unpublished data on native terrestrial Neotropical carnivores (Canidae; Felidae; Mephitidae; Mustelidae; Procyonidae; and Ursidae). NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES is a publicly available data set that includes 99,605 data entries from 35,511 unique georeferenced coordinates. Detection/non-detection and quantitative data were obtained from 1818 to 2018 by researchers, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private consultants. Data were collected using several methods including camera trapping, museum collections, roadkill, line transect, and opportunistic records. Literature (peer-reviewed and grey literature) from Portuguese, Spanish and English were incorporated in this compilation. Most of the data set consists of detection data entries (n = 79,343; 79.7%) but also includes non-detection data (n = 20,262; 20.3%). Of those, 43.3% also include count data (n = 43,151). The information available in NEOTROPICAL CARNIVORES will contribute to macroecological, ecological, and conservation questions in multiple spatio-temporal perspectives. As carnivores play key roles in trophic interactions, a better understanding of their distribution and habitat requirements are essential to establish conservation management plans and safeguard the future ecological health of Neotropical ecosystems. Our data paper, combined with other large-scale data sets, has great potential to clarify species distribution and related ecological processes within the Neotropics. There are no copyright restrictions and no restriction for using data from this data paper, as long as the data paper is cited as the source of the information used. We also request that users inform us of how they intend to use the data
