The purpose of this study was to perceive and to consider the management of compressed gas cylinders (CGC) in university laboratories. We examined the present conditions of CGC on campus, and pointed out the problems which should be improved. Cylinders were found to be preserved for an extended period of time. A new system was considered to propel this problem. Standardized tags were put on the CGCs to simplify management. There is also a need to educate students and staffs with enhanced educational material about CGC handling

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Previous studies have shown the short-term or intermediate-term practice of yoga to be useful for ameliorating several mental disorders and psychosomatic disorders. However, little is known about the long-term influences of yoga on the mental state or stress-related biochemical indices. If yoga training has a stress-reduction effect and also improves an individual's mental states for a long time, long-term yoga practitioners may have a better mental state and lower stress-related biochemical indices in comparison to non-experienced participants. This study simultaneously examined the differences in mental states and urinary stress-related biochemical indices between long-term yoga practitioners and non-experienced participants.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The participants were 38 healthy females with more than 2 years of experience with yoga (long-term yoga group) and 37 age-matched healthy females who had not participated in yoga (control group). Their mental states were assessed using the Profile of Mood States (POMS) questionnaire. The level of cortisol, 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and biopyrrin in urine were used as stress-related biochemical indices.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The average self-rated mental disturbance, tension-anxiety, anger-hostility, and fatigue scores of the long-term yoga group were lower than those of the control group. There was a trend toward a higher vigor score in the long-term yoga group than that in the control group. There were no significant differences in the scores for depression and confusion in the POMS between the two groups. The urine 8-OHdG concentration showed a trend toward to being lower in the long-term yoga group in comparison to the control group. There were no significant differences in the levels of urine biopyrrin or cortisol.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The present findings suggest that long-term yoga training can reduce the scores related to mental health indicators such as self-rated anxiety, anger, and fatigue.</p

2022-08-10.Identifying the host genetic factors underlying severe COVID-19 is an emerging challenge. Here we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) involving 2, 393 cases of COVID-19 in a cohort of Japanese individuals collected during the initial waves of the pandemic, with 3, 289 unaffected controls. We identified a variant on chromosome 5 at 5q35 (rs60200309-A), close to the dedicator of cytokinesis 2 gene (DOCK2), which was associated with severe COVID-19 in patients less than 65 years of age. This risk allele was prevalent in East Asian individuals but rare in Europeans, highlighting the value of genome-wide association studies in non-European populations. RNA-sequencing analysis of 473 bulk peripheral blood samples identified decreased expression of DOCK2 associated with the risk allele in these younger patients. DOCK2 expression was suppressed in patients with severe cases of COVID-19. Single-cell RNA-sequencing analysis (n = 61 individuals) identified cell-type-specific downregulation of DOCK2 and a COVID-19-specific decreasing effect of the risk allele on DOCK2 expression in non-classical monocytes. Immunohistochemistry of lung specimens from patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia showed suppressed DOCK2 expression. Moreover, inhibition of DOCK2 function with CPYPP increased the severity of pneumonia in a Syrian hamster model of SARS-CoV-2 infection, characterized by weight loss, lung oedema, enhanced viral loads, impaired macrophage recruitment and dysregulated type I interferon responses. We conclude that DOCK2 has an important role in the host immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection and the development of severe COVID-19, and could be further explored as a potential biomarker and/or therapeutic target

The purpose of this study is to reconsider the management of chemical information systems in university laboratories. In particular, we examine the present condition of a chemical information system on a university campus in Japan, and point out conditions which need to be improved. First, both the procedures for upgrading the system and the resulting conditions are explained. Then, the effects and consequences of changing the management method concerning user IDs are examined. The following conclusions can be made: 1. Substantial support is required in order to employ a chemical management system efficiently. 2. A common chemical management database is required. 3. Compatibilities between users need to be improved. 4. A structure which functions independently from the corporation which delivers the chemical substance is required. 5. A structure interlocked with waste fluid management is required

The purpose of this study is to consider the cooperation between the universities of the Chugoku-Shikoku region in the National University Council for the safety and health. The results are listed below. 1) In the meeting of the Council not only a discussion of a technical theme, but also a seminar for first designation person should be held. 2) As an action of the cooperation between universities, we build the simple database to grasp the situation of the safety and health management of each university, and the guidelines on Chugoku- Shikoku version“ Check List" about the safety and health. 3) As future cooperation communization of the teaching materials or joint enforcement of the staff education are considered. 4) The information sharing and cooperation among national universities, technical colleges, the private schools, and other groups are necessary
