Zaman gazetesi köşe yazarlarının bir rol değişim göstergesi olarak Bourdieucü bağlamda söylemsel dönüşümleri (2011’den 2014’e)
Discursive Transformation of Zaman Newspaper Columnists
as an Indication of Role Shift within the Context of Bourdieu
Media contents shaped by the dominant power, present important
material for the analysis of political and social relations. In this study,
Zaman Newspaper columnists’ point of view about the journalists’ arrests
that took place in March 2011 and in December 2014 is examined by the
help of Bourdieu’s terminology (symbolic capital, field, habitus, doxa) that
is used to analyse the impact of media and politics on each other. In this
regard, discursive transformation in the articles is also questioned.
It has been revealed that Zaman Newspaper which acted as
a “technician of opinion” with the aim of carrying and legitimizing the
discourse of the political power during the 2011 arrests has changed its
position. This is mainly due to the transformation occurred in the symbolic
capital of the newspaper following the changes in its relationship with the
government. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that the newspaper
deprived of its doxasophus identity has started to question the doxa
which it undisputedly accepted until then and to hold the opposition side.
discussion.
Özet
Egemen olanın güdümünde şekillenen medya içerikleri, siyasal ve toplumsal
ilişkilerin analizine önemli bir materyal sunar. Bu çalışmada, Bourdieu’nün
medya ve siyaset alanlarının birbirleri üzerindeki etkisini analiz etmede kullandığı
terminolojiden (simgesel sermaye, alan, habitus, doxa) yararlanarak, Mart 2011
The Protective Effect of N-Acetylcysteine Amide Against Paraquat-Induced Neurotoxicity
N-acetylcysteine amide (NACA) is a new antioxidant molecule with powerful radical scavenging properties. The aim of this study was to investigate neuroprotective effects of NACA against paraquat (PQ) toxicity in the midbrains of rats by using motor coordination tests and biochemical and histological analysis. Thirty adult Wistar albino rats were divided into three groups: Group 1: control (n = 10), Group 2: PQ (10 mg/kg) (n = 10), and Group 3: PQ (10 mg/kg) + NACA (100 mg/kg) (n = 10). NACA was administrated intraperitoneally 30 min before PQ injection. Performance was measured for a period of 28 days. The rotarod and accelerod tests were performed prior to and after the experimental period. After the experimental period, rats were sacrificed and midbrain tissues were removed. According to biochemical data, malondialdehyde levels exhibited a significant increase (P \u3c 0.05) when the PQ group was compared to the control group, whereas the NACA-treated group showed a significant decline (P \u3c 0.05). The total glutathione levels (P \u3c 0.01) and the glutathione peroxidase and butyrylcholinesterase activities (P \u3c 0.05) in the NACA treatment group were significantly raised compared with the PQ group. The main finding in the rotarod and accelerod tests was that the PQ+NACA group had improved motor coordination functions, whereas the PQ group had lost motor coordination (P \u3c 0.05). Our histological data were also outstanding and were consistent with biochemical and motor coordination results in terms of the protective role of NACA against PQ-induced neurotoxicity
Urinary tract infection and their risk factors association in renal transplant recipients
Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) remains one of the most common and major complications after renal transplantation. Objective: The study was undertaken to get an insight regarding the bacterial pathogen which is responsible for UTI in post renal transplant patients and their risk factors association. Methods: This was an observational study, conducted in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) from December 2010 to December 2011. Twenty- one renal transplant recipients were evaluated for UTl after surgery up to six weeks. Microscopic examination and culture of urine were performed in every pre-transplant period, 3rd POD, 7th POD, within six weeks and as per patient's clinical condition. UTI was considered when bacterial count wa
Journalism and politics in Bourdieuan context: newspaper journalists’ metamorphosis
In February 2011, Turkish police raided
on OdaTV, accused of trying to launch a
coup. Zaman newspaper did not evaluate
it as an intervention against freedom
of media. In December 2014, Turkish
police raided the daily Zaman newspaper.
At this point, Zaman newspaper writers
evaluated this process as a violation
of the freedom of speech. In this paper,
we will explain the differentiation of Zaman
newspaper’s evaluation of the arrest
of the journalists in 2011 and in 2014.The
main frame of the study is also designed
around the concepts of sociologist Bourdieu’s
terminology
