Higher-Power Coherent and Squeezed States
A closed form expression for the higher-power coherent states (eigenstates of
) is given. The cases j=3,4 are discussed in detail, including the
time-evolution of the probability densities. These are compared to the case
j=2, the even- and odd-coherent states. We give the extensions to the
"effective" displacement-operator, higher-power squeezed states and to the
ladder-operator/minimum-uncertainty, higher-power squeezed states. The
properties of all these states are discussed.Comment: 23 pages including 9 figures. To be published in Optics

The 2+2-Signature and the 1+1-Matrix-Brane
We discuss different aspects of the 2+2-signature from the point of view of
the quatl theory. In particular, we compare two alternative approaches to such
a spacetime signature, namely the 1+1-matrix-brane and the 2+2-target spacetime
of a string. This analysis also reveals hidden discrete symmetries of the
2+2-brane action associated with the 2+2-dimensional sector of a
2+10-dimensional target background.Comment: 12 pages, Latex, to appear in Mod. Phys. Lett.
Remarks on Weyl invariant p-branes and Dp-branes
A mechanism to find different Weyl invariant p-branes and Dp-branes actions
is explained. Our procedure clarifies the Weyl invariance for such systems.
Besides, by considering gravity-dilaton effective action in higher dimensions
we also derive a Weyl invariant action for p-branes. We argue that this
derivation provides a geometrical scenario for the Weyl invariance of p-branes.
Our considerations can be extended to the case of super-p-branes.Comment: 18 pages, Late
Analytic Description of the Motion of a Trapped Ion in an Even or Odd Squeezed State
A completely analytic description is given of the motion of a trapped ion
which is in either an even or an odd squeezed state. Comparison is made to
recent results on the even or odd coherent states, and possible experimental
work is discussed.Comment: LaTeX. 9 pages plus 7 figures, include
Qubits and chirotopes
We show that qubit and chirotope concepts are closely related. In fact, we
prove that the qubit concept leads to a generalization of the chirotope
concept, which we call qubitope. Moreover, we argue that a possible qubitope
theory may suggest interesting applications of oriented matroid theory in at
least three physical contexts, in which qubits make their appearance, namely
string theory, black holes and quantum information.Comment: 11 pages, Late
A Simple Volcano Potential with an Analytic, Zero-Energy, Ground State
We describe a simple volcano potential, which is supersymmetric and has an
analytic, zero-energy, ground state. (The KK modes are also analytic.) It is an
interior harmonic oscillator potential properly matched to an exterior angular
momentum-like tail. Special cases are given to elucidate the physics, which may
be intuitively useful in studies of higher-dimensional gravity.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure
Community-based multicultural counselor preparation as a site of Praxis and social justice
Recent calls in counseling psychology to embrace social justice work and mandates in the field to operationalize multicultural competencies have offered few mature examples of how this work actually looks. This article describes a 35-year-old program in a community-based urban setting which has successfully prepared over 800 counselors while integrating social justice and multicultural competencies into its core curriculum. The authors discuss the impact of the program in terms of multicultural competence, praxis, and social justice agency. The article includes recommendations about challenges that professionals and programs of this nature must negotiate in order to implement a program of this nature effectively
