Yellow Woodsorrel (Oxalis stricta) Control with Certainty (Sulfosulfuron 75 WDG), 2007
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of Certainty (sulfosulfuron 75 WDG) on the control of yellow wood sorrel(Oxalis sticta) in Kentucky bluegrass turf at the Iowa State University turfgrass research area
Broadleaf Weed Control with Dismiss (Sulfentrazone), 2007
The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of Dismiss (sulfentrazone) on the control of Oxalis (Yellow Woodsorrel-Oxalis sticta), prostrate spurge (Euphorbia supina), and dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) in Kentucky bluegrass turf at the Iowa State University turfgrass research area
Preemergence weed control using corn gluten meal
Corn gluten meal is used as a natural preemergence herbicide
Yellow Nutsedge Trial, 2007
The objective of this study was to observe the effectiveness of several yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) controls. It was conducted at the Iowa State University turf grass research area in a non-irrigated turf with a high population of yellow nutsedge plants. The treatments are listed in Table 1
Control of Yellow Nutsedge in New Sod, 2007
The objectives of this study were to observe the control of yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) in newly laid sod with Dismiss(sulfentrizone) and Sandea (halosulfuron which is also sold as Sedgehammer), and to determine if either material inhibited the establishment of the sod
2008 Preemergence Crabgrass Control Study
The objectives of this study were to determine which application timing provides acceptable crabgrass control, determine if the mesotrione/prodiamine premix causes unacceptable phytotoxicity on Kentucky bluegrass, and determine the efficacy of the mesotrione/prodiamine premix compared with industry standards
2008 Spring Seeding Study
The objectives of this study were to determine if mesotrione (Tenacity) is safe to apply at the time of spring seeding, to determine if mesotrione is safe to apply after the first mowing, and to evaluate the weed control
Update on Turfgrass Research
The 2009 season was a challenging, but dynamic, one. The number of projects was down slightly because of the economy, including the elimination of all but one of the NTEP (National Turfgrass Evaluation Program) trials. However, this allowed for improvements and changes of many sections of the research area. There was approximately 70,000 ft2 of newly seeded areas for future research projects, which included many species and varieties. The species were tall fescue (30,000 ft2 ), creeping bentgrass (8,000 ft2 ), perennial ryegrass (11,000 ft2 ), fine-leaf fescue (8,000ft2 ), and Kentucky bluegrass (13,000 ft2 )
2008 Yellow Nutsedge Control Trial
The objective of this study was to observe the effectiveness of Sedgehammer 75WDG (Halosulfuron) and Dismiss 4F (Sulfentrazone) on yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) control. It was conducted at the Iowa State University turfgrass research area in a non-irrigated area of mixed grass species that contained a high population of yellow nutsedge. The Sedgehammer was combined with the X77 surfactant at 0.25% v/v. No surfactant was used with the Dismiss. Plots measured 5 × 5 ft for a total of 25 ft2 and the study was replicated three times. Treatments were applied in the equivalent of three gallons of water/1000 ft2
Mesotrione Applications for Postemergence Crabgrass Control
The objective of this research was to determine the following: 1) what rates of mesotrione provide acceptable (\u3e 80%) weed control, 2) if these rates are nonphytotoxic to turfgrasses, 3) if the addition of prodiamine is beneficial at late postemergence timings, and 4) if the residual activity is acceptable
