Two Methods of Forecasting the Spread of Disease Using R\u3csub\u3e0\u3c/sub\u3e Coefficient and Gradient-Descent

    Get PDF
In 2020, COVID-19 became a global pandemic and has been negatively impacting the world ever since. One of the ways to help control the spread of disease is to forecast its growth. Forecasting the spread of disease, though a daunting task, is necessary when a pandemic happens as it could help create social policies that could potentially mitigate the effects of the disease. This research aims to provide two disease prediction methods: the R0-based method and the gradient-descent method. The R0-based method produces short-term predictions by simulating the mobility of residents and utilizing the R0 coefficient. The gradientdescent method maps the linear regression model onto non-linear model in order to fit the exponential growth of the disease. Experimental results show that the R0-based method is accurate at forecasting during pandemic outbreaks. The gradient-descent method is able to study the spread of epidemics on a city-to-city scale through transport network, but with less accuracy than the R0-based technique

Hybrid User Pairing for Spectral and Energy Efficiencies in Multiuser MISO-NOMA Networks with SWIPT

    Get PDF
In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid user pairing (HUP) scheme in multiuser multiple-input single-output nonorthogonal multiple access networks with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer. In this system, two information users with distinct channel conditions are optimally paired while energy users perform energy harvesting (EH) under non-linearity of the EH circuits. We consider the problem of jointly optimizing user pairing and power allocation to maximize the overall spectral efficiency (SE) and energy efficiency (EE) subject to userspecific quality-of-service and harvested power requirements. A new paradigm for the EE-EH trade-off is then proposed to achieve a good balance of network power consumption. Such design problems are formulated as the maximization of nonconcave functions subject to the class of mixed-integer non-convex constraints, which are very challenging to solve optimally. To address these challenges, we first relax binary pairing variables to be continuous and transform the design problems into equivalent non-convex ones, but with more tractable forms. We then develop low-complexity iterative algorithms to improve the objectives and converge to a local optimum by means of the inner approximation framework. Simulation results show the convergence of proposed algorithms and the SE and EE improvements of the proposed HUP scheme over state-of-the-art designs. In addition, the effects of key parameters such as the number of antennas and dynamic power at the BS, target data rates, and energy threshold, on the system performance are evaluated to show the effectiveness of the proposed schemes in balancing resource utilization

Using Pictures As Non-Verbal Language Motivating Students With English Speaking Lessons At Vietnam Primary Schools

    Get PDF
The study investigates the reality of students' low participation in speaking activities and the possibility of using pictures to increase their participation in classroom speaking activities if necessary. The reason for this research is the lack of using pictures as the visual aids to teach speaking skill for the students in Vietnam’s context. Although several studies have been conducted on these subjects with different approaches, Vietnamese students, especially the primary ones, are not paid much attention as an investigated object. By using methods of questionnaires and tests (pre-tests and post-tests) combined with qualitative analytical analysis, as well as taking 50 students in grade 4 of a primary school in Hanoi as the objects to assess their current situation of learning English with pictures. The research findings indicate that students are more interested in learning English speaking when using pictures. Moreover, the students’ learning strategies and students’ attitude towards learning English are the two main causes that make them have low motivation in learning. In all, motivation and performance of students after the process of applying pictures in learning English presented an improvement. The results of this study are expected to be beneficial for the teachers in conducting the teaching curriculum as they can apply pictures as effective supporters

    Get PDF
Sustainable forest management can play a vital role in building resilient economies and communities that can withstand pandemics, climate change, and other global challenges. Through a comprehensive analysis of local communities surrounding protected areas, we examine the extent of forest reliance for livelihoods and identify key drivers behind changes in forest-resource use during the pre-pandemic in 2019 and post-pandemic in 2022. The study's findings reveal a noteworthy increase in the proportion of land utilized for livelihood activities, especially for production forests, in study sites between 2019 and 2022. Local communities still heavily rely on forest resources for their livelihoods, with a significant increase in household income derived from forest-based activities between 2019 and 2022, approximately 112.1%, 28.7%, and 1.68% for Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, respectively. Additionally, the study highlights an upsurge in forest dependence during the pandemic period, emphasizing the importance of forests in safeguarding the economies of forest-dependent communities. Findings also shed light on the determinants of forest dependence changes amid the pandemic, including income from forests, poverty status, minority group status, and receipt of COVID-19 relief. These results provide valuable insights into the relationship between forest resources and rural livelihoods for promoting sustainable forest management and safeguarding the well-being of local communities in the face of future challenges

    Get PDF
The readability of the text plays a very important role in selecting appropriate materials for the level of the reader. Text readability in Vietnamese language has received a lot of attention in recent years, however, studies have mainly been limited to simple statistics at the level of a sentence length, word length, etc. In this article, we investigate the role of word-level grammatical characteristics in assessing the difficulty of texts in Vietnamese textbooks. We have used machine learning models (for instance, Decision Tree, K-nearest neighbor, Support Vector Machines, etc.) to evaluate the accuracy of classifying texts according to readability, using grammatical features in word level along with other statistical characteristics. Empirical results show that the presence of POS-level characteristics increases the accuracy of the classification by 2-4%

    Get PDF
An overview of the basic technology to produce bioethanol from lignocellulosic biomass is presented in this context. The conventional process includes two main steps. First, lignocellulose must be pretreated in order to remove lignin and enhance the penetration of hydrolysis agents without chemically destruction of cellulose and hemicellulose. Second, the pretreated material is converted to bioethanol by hydrolysis and fermentation. Some typical published studies and popular processing methods in attempts to improve the biomass conversion to bioethanol and increase the cost-effectiveness are also introduced briefly. Herein, the refinery of the resulted raw bioethanol mixture to obtain higher concentrated solution is not regarded
