A Review of Occupational Stress among Certain Jobs in Vietnam

Background: Stress in the modern workplace is globally considered a risk factor for workers’ health and safety. However, a review of the prevalence and associated factors of occupational stress in developing countries like Vietnam was largely lacking. This review aimed to describe the situation of occupational stress among certain jobs from studies carried out in Vietnam. Methods: The review was implemented by using key words to search on online and offline, international and national database. After going through 2 stages of selections, total 25 eligible articles were chosen and used for this review. Results: The results showed the prevalence of occupational stress was varied and ranged from 6.4% to 90.4%. The study population focused on health workers, factory workers, students, academic staff and officers. The prevalence of each occupation ranged from 6.4% to 90.4% in health workers; 20.7% to 89.6% in factory workers; and 22.8% to 68.3% in students. Conclusions: In conclusion, the prevalence of occupational stress was very varied between and within each occupation. Therefore, a new way to develop in enhancing the occupational stress data, particularly in developing countries, is urgently needed

Poverty and inequality maps for rural Vietnam: an application of small area estimation

The objective of the paper is to update the small area estimates of poverty and inequality for rural Vietnam. The new estimates of province and district level poverty for the year 2006, when combined with estimates available for 1999, allow for examination of how poverty has changed in rural Vietnam over the past seven years. The analysis finds that all provinces across the country experienced a noticeable reduction in rural poverty during the period 1999-2006. Some of the largest reductions in poverty are observed for provinces with poverty rates close to the national average. The poorest provinces have also experienced reductions in poverty, albeit at a more modest pace. Provinces and districts with lower levels of inequality in 2006 have seen above average poverty reductions. Updating Poverty Maps of Vietnam using Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey 2002 and Population Census 1999

Poverty map is an important for poverty targeting in developing countries. In this study, we combine the Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey (VHLSS) in 2002 and the Population Census in 1999 to estimate poverty and inequality indexes of all provinces and districts of Vietnam in the year 2002.Poverty measurement, poverty mapping, agricultural census, household survey, Vietnam.

Complex group algebras of the double covers of the symmetric and alternating groups

We prove that the double covers of the alternating and symmetric groups are determined by their complex group algebras. To be more precise, let $n\geq 5$ be an integer, $G$ a finite group, and let \AAA and \SSS^\pm denote the double covers of \Al_n and \Sy_n, respectively. We prove that \CC G\cong \CC \AAA if and only if G\cong \AAA, and \CC G\cong \CC \SSS^+\cong\CC\SSS^- if and only if G\cong \SSS^+ or \SSS^-. This in particular completes the proof of a conjecture proposed by the second and fourth authors that every finite quasi-simple group is determined uniquely up to isomorphism by the structure of its complex group algebra. The known results on prime power degrees and relatively small degrees of irreducible (linear and projective) representations of the symmetric and alternating groups together with the classification of finite simple groups play an essential role in the proofs.Comment: 27 pages, the previous version is revised slightly, to appear in Algebra & Number Theor
