Bystanders, parcelling, and an absence of trust in the grooming interactions of wild male chimpanzees
The evolution of cooperation remains a central issue in socio-biology with the fundamental problem of how individuals minimize the risks of being short-changed (‘cheated’) should their behavioural investment in another not be returned. Economic decisions that individuals make during interactions may depend upon the presence of potential partners nearby, which o ers co operators a temptation to defect from the current partner. The parcelling model posits that donors subdivide services into parcels to force cooperation, and that this is contingent on opportunities for defection; that is, the presence of bystanders. Here we test this model and the e ect of bystander presence using grooming interactions of wild chimpanzees. We found that with more bystanders, initiators gave less grooming at the beginning of the bout and were more likely to abandon a grooming bout, while bouts were less likely to be reciprocated. We also found that the groomer’s initial investment was not higher among frequent groomers or stronger reciprocators, suggesting that contrary to current assumptions, grooming decisions are not based on trust, or bonds, within dyads. Our work highlights the importance of considering immediate social context and the in uence of bystanders for understanding the evolution of the behavioural strategies that produce cooperation
A global, collaborative, E-learning ecosystem: An academic/industry partnership in action
A number of apparent failures in the use of education technology should provide a warning as universities and training institutes progress their strategy and management plans for elearning. Fundamental problems in the academic environment relate to the lack of training in new technologies available to academics responsible for elearning. No less importantly the synergies among commercial providers of Asynchronous Learning Network (ALN) software, pedagogical knowledge and experiential learning requirements have not been addressed in the vision and strategy statements provided by senior management. The requisite solution is seen to be a framework for all stakeholders to evaluate e-learning proposals to ensure the effectiveness and value propositions are based in reality. What can we learn from the e-business environment and, in particular, the Cisco Network Academy Program (Academy Connection) that would inform the structure and deliverables required to support the proposed framework? This proposed framework also needs to accommodate value propositions for the diverse student cohorts involved in e-learning, having particular regard to professional practical requirements
Fit Into College II: Physical Activity and Nutrition Behavior Effectiveness and Programming Recommendations
Purpose: To determine whether residency (living on campus versus off campus) was related to the effects of Fit into College on students’ health behaviors, and to understand interns’ perceptions of their roles in mentoring their trainees.
Design: Pre-experimental, one-group, pretest-posttest design and a posttest focus group interview.
Setting: University-offered health and internship courses.
Subjects: Twenty-four students (trainees) participated in the intervention, nine of whom lived on campus. Five student-interns served as their mentors.
Intervention: Fit into College was a 14-week intervention in which trainees teamed up with an intern to improve and/or maintain healthy nutrition and physical activity behaviors.
Measures: Trainees’ nutrition and physical activity behaviors and perceptions were quantitatively assessed through surveys at preintervention and postintervention. Interns’ mentoring perceptions were qualitatively assessed through a focus group interview after the intervention.
Analysis: Two-factor repeated measure ANOVAs and qualitative theme identification.
Results: Regardless of their residency location, the trainees’ perceptions of the health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables improved during the intervention. However, for trainees living on campus, the intervention was not effective in increasing the number of fruits and vegetables consumed or the planning for food preparation. The interns perceived that they did not have adequate access to healthy foods, the knowledge or skills to prepare healthy foods, or the competency to teach food preparation strategies to their trainees. For trainees living on campus, the intervention was more effective in decreasing perceived exercise barriers than trainees living off campus.
Conclusion: Future iterations of Fit into College may focus on 1) improving college students’ planning and preparation of healthy foods, 2) segmenting trainees into more homogeneous groups for the interns to tailor their areas of expertise (campus vs. off-campus and/or freshman vs. upperclass students), and 3) collaborating with university-partners to improve environmental conditions to promote physical activity and healthy nutrition

mHealth: providing a mindfulness app for women with chronic pelvic pain in gynaecology outpatient clinics: qualitative data analysis of user experience and lessons learnt
OBJECTIVES: To determine whether a pre-existing smartphone app to teach mindfulness meditation is acceptable to women with chronic pelvic pain (CPP) and can be integrated into clinical practice within the National Health Service (NHS) CPP pathways, and to inform the design of a potential randomised clinical trial.
DESIGN: A prestudy patient and public involvement (PPI) group to collect feedback on the acceptability of the existing app and study design was followed by a three-arm randomised feasibility trial. In addition, we undertook interviews and focus groups with patients and staff to explore app usability and acceptability. We also obtained participant comments on the research process, such as acceptability of the study questionnaires.
SETTING: Two gynaecology clinics within Barts Health NHS, London, UK.
PARTICIPANTS: Patients with CPP lasting ≥6 months with access to smartphone or personal computer and understanding of basic English.
INTERVENTION: The intervention was mindfulness meditation content plus additional pain module delivered by a smartphone app. Active controls received muscle relaxation content from the same app. Passive (waiting list) controls received usual care.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Themes on user feedback, app usability and integration, and reasons for using/not using the app.
RESULTS: The use of the app was low in both active groups. Patients in the prestudy PPI group, all volunteers, were enthusiastic about the app (convenience, content, portability, flexibility, ease of use). Women contributing to the interview or focus group data (n=14), from a 'real world' clinic (some not regular app users), were less positive, citing as barriers lack of opportunities/motivation to use the app and lack of familiarity and capabilities with technology. Staff (n=7) were concerned about the potential need for extra support for them and for the patients, and considered the app needed organisational backing and peer acceptance.
CONCLUSION: The opinions of prestudy PPI volunteers meeting in their private time may not represent those of patients recruited at a routine clinic appointment. It may be more successful to codesign/codevelop an app with typical users than to adapt existing apps for use in real-world clinical populations.

Hartman and Nissim-Sabat have argued that Mach's idea of the relativity of
rotational motion suffers from internal inconsistencies and leads to a
contradiction that there cannot be a stationary bucket in a rotating universe.
They also claimed that non-inertial electromagnetic and stellar aberration
observations can distinguish between a rotating and a stationary universe,
whereas according to Mach there cannot be any observable way to distinguish

Fit Into College: A Program to Improve Physical Activity and Dietary Intake Lifestyles Among College Students
The purpose of this study was to determine whether a 10-week program could improve physical activity, physical fitness, body weight, dietary intake, and perceptions of exercise and diet among college 30 healthy college freshmen. Outcomes were measured at baseline, and following the 10-week program. The weekly sessions incorporated constructs of the Transtheoretical Model of Health Behavior Change and were administered by fitness interns who were junior or senior college students enrolled in health-related majors. The participants presented with low physical activity, physical fitness, and poor dietary intake, and 50% were overweight/obese (BMI \u3e 25). Participants demonstrated gains in their physical fitness and their perceived benefits to engaging in exercise and decreased their perceived barriers to engaging in exercise and a healthy diet. College freshmen presented with low levels of physical activity, poor dietary intake, and excess body weight. On foundations of quantum physics
Some aspects of the interpretation of quantum theory are discussed. It is
emphasized that quantum theory is formulated in the Cartesian coordinate
system; in other coordinates the result obtained with the help of the
Hamiltonian formalism and commutator relations between 'canonically conjugated'
coordinate and momentum operators leads to a wrong version of quantum
mechanics. The origin of time is analyzed in detail by the example of atomic
collision theory. It is shown that for a closed system like the three-body (two
nuclei + electron) time-dependent Schroedinger equation has no physical meaning
since in the high impact energy limit it transforms into an equation with two
independent time-like variables; the time appears in the stationary
Schroedinger equation as a result of extraction of a classical subsystem (two
nuclei) from a closed three-body system. Following the Einstein-Rozen-Podolsky
experiment and Bell's inequality the wave function is interpreted as an actual
field of information in the elementary form. The relation between physics and
