An Approach and Tool for Reasoning about Situated Cyber-Physical Systems

    Get PDF
By situated cyber-physical systems (CPS) we refer to CPS that are located in some physical environment. The term is aimed at highlighting the two-way interaction between CPS and environment, and the subtle, serendipitous, and sometimes unexpected correlations that emerge because of the coexistence in and with a physical environment. For example, a CPS that has an elevated surface temperature will tend to heat the air around it, which in turn may in uence the readings of temperature sensors on nearby CPS, but this conclusion can be drawn only by considering the corresponding physical laws. Unfortunately, these interactions are normally not captured by the modeling methodologies of CPS, but doing so can lead to improved anomaly detection and robustness of designs. In this thesis, we present a method for modeling the interactions of situated CPS, de ne corresponding reasoning algorithms, and introduce a tool that integrates in a state-of-the-art CPS design application and automates the reasoning processes.M.S., Computer Science -- Drexel University, 201

Quantum well infrared photodetectors hardiness to the non ideality of the energy band profile

We report results on the effect of a non-sharp and disordered potential in Quantum Well Infrared Photodetectors (QWIP). Scanning electronic transmission microscopy is used to measure the alloy profile of the structure which is shown to present a gradient of composition along the growth axis. Those measurements are used as inputs to quantify the effect on the detector performance (peak wavelength, spectral broadening and dark current). The influence of the random positioning of the doping is also studied. Finally we demonstrate that QWIP properties are quite robust with regard to the non ideality of the energy band profile

TECHNICAL ASPECTS REGARDING THE OBTAINING AND USE OF THE CAMELINE GROATS IN ANIMAL FEEDING

The by-products resulting from the extraction of oil from oilseeds represent alternative strategies for animal feeding, a new source of food. In the paper were presented some physical characteristics of cameline cakes resulting from mechanical processing with a pilot installation for the production of vegetable oils. To study the effects at the ruminal level, tests were performed on fistulized animals fed with fodder in which the camelina shrimp replaced the sunflower. The values recorded for pH dynamics indicated that camelina grist could replace sunflower seed without negative effects on ruminal metabolism under certain conditions

Dark current analysis of Quantum Cascade Detectors by Magneto-Resistance measurements

International audienceMagneto-transport experiments have been performed on Quantum Cascade Detectors. These experiments lead to the identification of the different electronic transitions from subbands in one cascade period to subbands in the following one. These transitions contribute to the total current flowing through the structure in the absence of illumination. This dark current is well described within a simple model based on the sum of diffusion events from one cascade to the next one through optical phonon mediated transitions. For the first time, the optical and electronic properties of such a complex heterostructure can be fully predicted without any other adjustable parameter than the doping density. This opens the way to a full quantum design of an infrared detector, in contrast with the phenomenological optimization of structures usually performed in this field

Transient hepatic attenuation difference (THAD) or fat sparing? Aberrant right gastric vein (ARGV) determining a pseudolesion at the border of the IInd/IIIrd liver segments. Review of developmental concepts

The aberrant right gastric vein (ARGV) is a rare anatomical variation. It can be responsible for unexplained hyperdensities in the hepatic parenchyma on CT scans, also known as third inflow effects. We present two cases sharing similar vascular pattern and slightly different imagistic findings on ultrasound and computer-tomography performed studies. Both ultrasonographies showed a nodular-geographic hypoechoic area within a hyperechogenic fatty liver. Further CT evaluation showed in both cases a hyperattenuating homogenous area clearly visible on all four phases at the border of the IInd/IIIrd hepatic segment, that enhance especially on the portal venous phase, with no slow-fill, wash-out, central scar or rim-like features. The areas were considered to be focal fat sparing areas in diffuse fatty liver or a perfusion disorder due to the presence of an aberrant right gastric vein. The aim of this paper is to discuss the embryological aspects which are the groundwork for this vascular anomaly and to correlate the findings with imagistic aspects. These two ARGV produced pseudolesions, understood as focal fat sparing areas within diffuse fatty livers. These pseudolesions mimic liver tumours, therefore it is important to look for such an aberrant vessel in order to rule out other diagnoses

15{\mu}m Quantum well infrared photodetector for thermometric imagery in cryogenic windtunnel

Quantum Well Infrared Photodetector (QWIP) usually suffer from a too moderate quantum efficiency and too large dark current which is often announced as crippling for low flux applications. Despite this reputation we demonstrate the ability of QWIP for the low infrared photon flux detection. We present the characterization of a state of the art 14.5\mu m QWIP from Alcatel-Thales 3-5 Lab. We developed a predictive model of the performance of an infrared instrument for a given application. The considered scene is a Cryogenic Wind Tunnel (ETW), where a specific Si:Ga camera is currently used. Using this simulation tool we demonstrate the QWIP ability to image a low temperature scene in this scenario. QWIP detector is able to operate at 30K with a NETD as low as 130mK. In comparison to the current detector, the temperature of use is three times higher and the use of a QWIP based camera would allow a huge simplification of the optical part
