This study examines the primary determinants explaining spatial and temporal variations in public transportation use in Perth using 2009 SmartRider data. The developed robust predictive model includes land use, urban form, socio-economic characteristics and public transport availability. Land-use development integrated with sustainable transportation systems, more frequent and densely distributed feeder bus service to train stations, density of low-income resident and university student populations are highlighted as important for policy making encouraging increased public transport use

What is Driving Public Transport in Perth: Understanding Determinants and Dynamics?

The main objective of this paper is to systematically examine primary determinants that explain both spatial and temporal variations in public transportation use in Perth. It is also to offer a comprehensive and rigorous analysis of use-determinants and develops a robust predictive model based on land use characteristics, urban form, socioeconomic conditions and public transport availability factors which can inform policymaking. It employs the data on revealed preferences derived from smart cards to analyse the variations in temporal and spatial patterns of public transport use in Perth depending on types of patrons, the origin suburbs of their journeys and the day and time of travel. The research deploys factor analysis to identify latent variables among a broad range of explanatory variables and then applies the multiple regression analysis to develop a predictive model of public transport use in Perth metropolitan suburbs. The main finding from this research is that the Bus/Ferry service provision density is the most important factor in explaining the spatial and temporal variations in public transport use in Perth’s metropolitan suburbs, along with income factor and land use characteristic (resident and student population density). It also has a practical implication for public transit planning for Perth to increase public transport usage and promote the role of public transit in Perth. Therefore, this paper points out the importance of addressing the combined influences of land use characteristics, socioeconomic factors, and service provision factors in shaping public transport use

In 2016, our university launched its Academic Integrity Program (AIP) in order to promote and protect academic integrity. All commencing students must complete this online AIP within 14 days of starting their course. Satisfactory completion of this module with a test score of 80% is required before students can access their course materials. Interestingly, this university program mirrors a decade long effort in our IS discipline area to educate students regarding the importance of academic integrity and values through improvements in education, detection of misconduct, and procedures that deal with this. In this paper, we analyze four descriptive cases of academic misconduct involving plagiarism, collusion, and contract cheating. We then describe the role of academic culture and English language proficiency, noting how these contribute to academic integrity. Additionally, we analyze quantitative data from the faculty Plagiarism Recording System that reflect a decade of front-line experiences of IS academics in upholding and reinforcing academic integrity in both large (1,000 student) undergraduate and small (20 student) postgraduate courses. We describe the AIP that educated 15,000 new students commencing courses in 2016. Finally, we raise issues and make recommendations to deal with the next decade of efforts to improve academic integrity

The main finding from this research is that the Bus/Ferry service provision density is the most critical factor in explaining the spatial and temporal variations in public transport use in Perth’s metropolitan suburbs, along with income factor and land use characteristic (resident and student population density). The purpose of this paper is to identify the urban and rural regional profiles of socioeconomic indices at the township level in Myanmar. It aims to identify and rank the urban and rural areas according to relative socioeconomic advantage and disadvantage based on the level of education, literacy, employment, type of occupation, housing and living standard variables which are contributing to inequality at the geographical township level. Moreover, it also aimed to examine how land use characteristics such as agricultural land, mining areas, forestry, transport infrastructures such as inland transport routes and trade routes and geographical features are relating with these socioeconomic profiles in different regions. The findings from this paper will identify which regions need prioritization in education, employment opportunities and infrastructure supports. They will also inform Myanmar’s transitioning to a sustainable development path and its achievements in relation to SDG1 End Poverty and SDG11 Sustainable Settlements and Communities
