Liver Disease in Renal Transplant Recipients
Hepatic disease is common in renal transplant candidates and recipients and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Individuals with chronic kidney disease are at risk of viral hepatitis and frequently have metabolic syndrome. Immunosuppression in renal transplant recipients is a risk factor for reactivation of hepatitis B and is implicated in more rapid progression to fibrosis in hepatitis C. Therefore, a multidisciplinary approach is key to diminish morbidity and mortality in renal transplant recipients with liver disease
