Myoelectrical activity of muscles stabilizing the sacroiliac joints before and after the use of elastic tapes in women suffering from Pregnancy-related Pelvic Girdle Pain
Objectives: The aim of this study was the analysis of activity of selected muscles stabilizing the sacroiliac joints in pregnantwomen suffering from pelvic pain and changes in the pattern in response to the implementation of Kinesio Taping(elastic tape).Material and methods: Seventeen women with Pregnancy-related Pelvic Girdle Pain and 20 pregnant women withoutpain in the lumbar-pelvic complex were enrolled into the study. In patients with pelvic pain, the parameters describing theaction of the muscles were assessed: before the tape was applied, immediately after application, 3 days into applicationand 5 days after the cessation of taping. In the control group, the test was carried out one time. The activity of the muscleswas measured during extension of the hip from a four-point kneeling position. Results: The gluteus maximus muscle shows higher resting activity values than in the control group, before and after applicationof the tape as well as five days after the removal of the tape. Before application, the gluteus maximus activatesquicker than in the control group while the ipsilateral extensor spinae had a delayed activation when compared to thecontrol group. Conclusions: The patterns of activation of tested muscles and their action potential values are different in the groupof women with pelvic pain compared to the group without pelvic pain. The application of KT in the lumbar region appearsto alter the activation of the GM muscle as well as improve activation of IES muscle during hip extension from thefour-point-kneeling position
Lower extremity muscles activity in standing and sitting position with use of sEMG in patients suffering from CharcotâMarieâTooth syndrome
There is very limited, evidenced data about movement possibilities in patients with high level of lower limb muscles atrophy and fatigue in patients suffering from CharcotâMarieâTooth syndrome. Patient (age 46) suffering from CharcotâMarieâTooth disease for 30 years with multiple movement restrictions and muscles atrophy above knees took part into the study. Tests were performed for 8 muscles of the lower limb and pelvis. Muscles electrical activity was tested in sitting and standing position (for knees extended and hyperextended). In the right leg rectus femoris, vastus lateralis obliquus, gluteus medius and semitendinosus muscles activated at first and were working the longest time. The highest activity was observed in standing position with knees extended. In the left leg rectus femoris and biceps femoris muscles activated at first and biceps femoris was working the longest time. Activity level in left lower limb is much lower than in the right one. Muscles weakness is asymmetric. Left leg is much weaker and engages antagonists and synergists muscles to compensate weaker rectus femoris, vastus medialis obliquus and vastus lateralis obliquus
Impact of Kinesio Taping application on pregnant women suffering from pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain â preliminary study
Objectives: The aim of the study was to assess the impact of pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain on every day functioning and evaluate how effective Kinesio Taping is in reducing pain for pregnant women.
Material and methods: 24 women filled the authorâs questionnaire, Oswestry Disability Index Questionnaire and Pelvic Girdle Questionnaire before starting the therapy. Elastic tape was applied onto the lumbosacral area for 5 days and was evaluated 1st day of the test immediately before application, day 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10 day of the examination.

Conclusions: Elastic tape decreases pain in pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain. Pelvic girdle pain deteriorates the quality of life for pregnant women
Associations between overweight, health behaviors and Figure Rating Scale by Stunkard at 18-year-old secondary school students from Wroclaw
Introduction: Overweight in adolescence are associated with unfavourable consequences throughout the life-span, especially in chronic disorders such metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes.. Diet, physical activity and psychosocial factors are important risk factors of obesity in this group.
The aim of the study was to find the relationship between the body mass index (BMI) and diet, physical activity and perception of body mass according to Figure Rating Scale by Stunkard.
Material and methods: The study involved 104 secondary school students from WrocĆaw aged 18 years old (84 girls and 20 boys). Physical activity was assessed by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) (http://www.ipaq.ki.se). Original survey questionnaire, based on the health programme âKeep straightâ, was used to assess selected behaviors in the field of nutrition. Perception of body mass was checked with the Figure Rating Scale, according to Stunkard. The anthropometric research was based on the body weight, height, waist and hip circumference, BMI and WHR were calculated.
Results: Most of the students (82%) represented a proper BMI, respectively 83% girls and 75% boys and correctly percepted their body mass index. We have shown adverse relationship between BMI and the number of dietary errors (r=-0,23,
A Survey of Patientsâ Opinions and Preferences on the Use of E-Prescriptions in Poland
E-prescription is already used in many countries, improving the standard of patient care. Officially, from 8 January 2020 e-prescribing has been obligated in Poland. Physiciansâ and pharmacistsâ opinions on e-prescribing have been widely researched and reported in the literature. In contrast, patientsâ perception has, to date, received little attention. For this reason, the aim of this study was to find the features and functionalities of e-prescribing that are desired by the public and influence the positive evaluation of this tool, according to patient opinion. In order to obtain data, a questionnaire was completed by 456 randomly selected adults. The obtained results indicated that only eight people (1.8%) did not know what e-prescription is. Of the remaining 448 individuals, 72.1% prefer e-prescription because it is more convenient for them. Most patients (62.1%) also recognize that e-prescribing makes it easier to purchase medications on behalf of another patient. Based on the study, it can be concluded that e-prescription is well evaluated by Polish patients. A large percentage of respondents were positive about obtaining prescriptions for continued treatment, without a personal doctor visit. Therefore, it is reasonable to maintain the possibility of such contact with a physician. The most popular, and preferred, method of receiving e-prescriptions is via SMS. However, it is necessary to offer different options for obtaining prescriptions, to meet the needs of different populations
Doctorsâ Perceptions of E-Prescribing upon Its Mandatory Adoption in Poland, Using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology Method
Background: E-prescribing is the most important achievement in the automation of the healthcare sector in Poland. Obligatory electronic prescribing came into force on 8 January 2020. This innovation significantly changes the work of doctors. Therefore, it is useful to identify the factors that have an impact on doctors’ acceptance levels for the new technology. Methods: This study employs a survey based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) method. Our questionnaire was completed by 144 family doctors in Poland during the technology implementation phase and the initial period of obligatory e-prescribing, between 1 December 2019 and 1 March 2020. Results: The results of the survey indicate that doctors do not believe that e-prescribing improves the effectiveness of their work. In addition, this attitude does not depend on the age of the respondent. We also found, regarding the influence of societal attitudes, that doctors only rarely consider the opinions of others in relation to their job. Conclusions: The implementation of new technologies in the healthcare system must be accompanied by consideration of how user-friendly the technologies are, and whether the users will have appropriate technical and financial support
Assessment of Pharmacists Prescribing Practices in PolandâA Descriptive Study
Pharmacists play a beneficial role in supplying medicines to patients. Pharmacist prescribing practices were introduced into law in Poland in 2002, permitting pharmacists to prescribe medications in emergency situations and in 2020 the new law allowed to prescribe in all situation where it is needed because of the health risks reasons. Our aim was to analyze pharmacist prescribing practices in Poland and confirm the useful of pharmacistsâ activity in this area. Additionally, pharmacists were also authorized to issue reimbursed prescriptions for themselves or their family members. Since January 2020, only e-prescriptions are allowed in Poland. A retrospective analysis of the inspection written reports from 842 community pharmacies in the representative region of Poland with a population of two million, carried out in the time period from 2002 to 2016 was performed (2189 prescriptions) to assess the emergency pharmacist prescribing practices in Poland. The second part of the research was based on digital data on pharmacists prescriptions (18,529) provided by the e-Health Centre (a governmental organization under the Ministry of Health responsible for the development of health care information systems in Poland), enabling to conduct the analysis of pharmacistâs prescribing from 1 of April 2020 to 31 of October 2020. The analysis gave the insight of the evolution of the pharmacy prescribing patterns. In general, pharmaceutical prescriptions were issued in cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, in town- or city center pharmacies, and in pharmacies in residential areas. The most common reason for a pharmaceutical prescription was that the patient was running out of a medicine and was unable to contact their physician. Cardiovascular, respiratory, dermatological, and digestive medications were most frequently prescribed. An analysis of pharmacistsâ prescribing data from 1 April 2020 to 31 October 2020 confirmed the rapid increase of pharmaceutical prescriptions following implementation of the new legislative act during the COVID-19 epidemic
Opinion of pharmacy interns of causes, consequences and prevention of dispensing errors in pharmacy - a qualitative study.
License to practice the profession as a pharmacist in Poland has a person who has graduated at least five years of studies, including six months of traineeship in a pharmacy. Traineeship takes place in a pharmacy that has received positive opinions from the provincial pharmaceutical inspector and the district pharmacy self-government. A Student who realise traineeship performs tasks according to the professional practice program under the direct supervision of a supervisor. The professional activities that a student must learn as part of professional practice include dispensing medicinal products from a pharmacy. There is a risk of making a mistake. Errors made in a pharmacy may pose a risk to the health and life of patients, and may also have financial consequences. This work is an attempt to examine pharmacy practice in the area of drug dispensing safety. The main aim of the study is to assess pharmacy practice, attitudes and opinions of trainees on the causes, consequences and prevention of errors when dispensing medicinal products. The in-depth interview method was used. The studied group were sixth-year pharmacy students of the Medical University of GdaĆsk undergoing a 6-month professional traineeship in generally available pharmacies.
The interviews were conducted using a previously developed framework interview script. The interview recordings were listened to by at least 3 people each within a period not exceeding two weeks. Then, each interview was transcribed using the intelligent transcription model. The transcript of each interview was read by three researchers, who were students associated with the Pharmaceutical Law Student Scientific Club of MUG. Initial coding was performed into five categories created a priori. In the first stage, an in vivo coding technique was used, then a second coding cycle called "Pattern coding" was carried out. The interviews were anonymized when transcribing them.
The study showed that the similarity of packaging and names is the main reason for errors during the shipment of medicines. The most common errors involve dispensing a different dose or form of the drug. High awareness of patients about their own pharmacotherapy increases its safety. Moreover, it was confirmed that the functionality of the e-prescription and the appropriate pharmacy program minimize errors during the expedition. Despite the implementation of various procedures and solutions aimed at increasing security, sometimes errors are detected with a delay or are ignored. Students doing traineeship in pharmacies complain about the lack of adequate preparation and support. The study showed that a six-month professional traineeship in a pharmacy, despite legal regulations, is an area that is insufficiently researched and insufficiently supervised in the student education process.
