    The purpose of our research is to clarify the relationship between environmental actions, environmental consciousness, and the extent to which environmental labels are recognized. There are significant differences in the individual perception of environmental problems, and it is important to encourage environmental actions while taking into consideration these differences. Then in this research, we assumed a relationship between actions that are conscious of environmental problems (environmental actions), and the extent to which commonly known environmental labels are recognized, and how consciousness of environmental problems fluctuates high or low (environmental consciousness); and conducted an online questionnaire survey to investigate these issues. To illustrate concrete environmental actions, we took advantage of the registration for energy visualization provided by a power company (through the “electric household account book), and efforts to reduce electricity usage (reduction efforts) and the agreement on power peak shift (peak shift agreement). From the questionnaire result, we found that environmental actions are influenced by environmental consciousness, and differences in the extent to which environmental labels are recognized. We are able to explore the possibility of inducing environmental actions not only for consumers with high environmental consciousness, but also to others by using effective ways of explaining new concepts, etc. Therefore, we intend to examine the relationship between environmental actions, the mechanism of providing information, and how this information is understood by conducting a new survey

    Orexin A Enhances Pro-Opiomelanocortin Transcription Regulated by BMP-4 in Mouse Corticotrope AtT20 Cells

    Orexin is expressed mainly in the hypothalamus and is known to activate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis that is involved in various stress responses and its resilience. However, the effects of orexin on the endocrine function of pituitary corticotrope cells remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the roles of orexin A in pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) transcription using mouse corticotrope AtT20 cells, focusing on the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) system expressed in the pituitary. Regarding the receptors for orexin, type 2 (OXR2) rather than type 1 (OX1R) receptor mRNA was predominantly expressed in AtT20 cells. It was found that orexin A treatment enhanced POMC expression, induced by corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) stimulation through upregulation of CRH receptor type-1 (CRHR1). Orexin A had no direct effect on the POMC transcription suppressed by BMP-4 treatment, whereas it suppressed Smad1/5/9 phosphorylation and Id-1 mRNA expression induced by BMP-4. It was further revealed that orexin A had no significant effect on the expression levels of type I and II BMP receptors but upregulated inhibitory Smad6/7 mRNA and protein levels in AtT20 cells. The results demonstrated that orexin A upregulated CRHR signaling and downregulated BMP-Smad signaling, leading to an enhancement of POMC transcription by corticotrope cells

    VLBI Monitoring of 3C 84 (NGC 1275) in Early Phase of the 2005 Outburst

    Multi-epoch Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) study of the sub-pc scale jet of 3C 84 is presented. We carried out 14-epoch VLBI observations during 2006-2009 with the Japanese VLBI Network (JVN) and the VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry (VERA), immediately following the radio outburst that began in 2005. We confirmed that the outburst was associated with the central ~1 pc core, accompanying the emergence of a new component. This is striking evidence of the recurrence of jet activity. The new component became brighter during 2008, in contrast to the constant gamma-ray emission that was observed with the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope during the same time. We found that the projected speed of the new component is 0.23c from 2007/297 (2007 October 24) to 2009/114 (2009 April 24). The direction of movement of this component differs from that of the pre-existing component by ~40 degree. This is the first measurement of kinematics of a sub-pc jet in a gamma-ray active phase. Possible detection of jet deceleration and the jet kinematics in connection with the gamma-ray emission is discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. Accepted for publication in PAS

    Frontline Nursing Staff’s Perceptions of Intravenous Medication Administration: The First Step Toward Safer Infusion Processes-a Qualitative Study

    OBJECTIVES: Intravenous medication errors continue to significantly impact patient safety and outcomes. This study sought to clarify the complexity and risks of the intravenous administration process. DESIGN: A qualitative focus group interview study. SETTING: Focused interviews were conducted using process mapping with frontline nurses responsible for medication administration in September 2020. PARTICIPANTS: Front line experiened nurses from a Japanese tertiary teaching hospital. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES: The primary outcome measure was to identify the mental models frontline nurses used during intravenous medication administration, which influence their interactions with patients, and secondarily, to examine the medication process gaps between the mental models nurses perceive and the actual defined medication administration process. RESULTS: We found gaps between the perceived clinical administration process and the real process challenges with an emphasis on the importance of verifying to see if the drug was ordered for the patient immediately before its administration. CONCLUSIONS: This novel and applied improvement approach can help nurses and managers better understand the process vulnerability of the infusion process and develop a deeper understanding of the administration steps useful for reliably improving the safety of intravenous medications
