Drude Weight of the Two-Dimensional Hubbard Model -- Reexamination of Finite-Size Effect in Exact Diagonalization Study --
The Drude weight of the Hubbard model on the two-dimensional square lattice
is studied by the exact diagonalizations applied to clusters up to 20 sites. We
carefully examine finite-size effects by consideration of the appropriate
shapes of clusters and the appropriate boundary condition beyond the imitation
of employing only the simple periodic boundary condition. We successfully
capture the behavior of the Drude weight that is proportional to the squared
hole doping concentration. Our present result gives a consistent understanding
of the transition between the Mott insulator and doped metals. We also find, in
the frequency dependence of the optical conductivity, that the mid-gap
incoherent part emerges more quickly than the coherent part and rather
insensitive to the doping concentration in accordance with the scaling of the
Drude weight.Comment: 9 pages with 10 figures and 1 table. accepted in J. Phys. Soc. Jp
A review of the Japanese longline fishery for tunas and billfishes in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, 1981-1987
ENGLISH: This report reviews the activity of the Japanese longline fishery in the eastern Pacific Ocean during the 1981-1987 period, extending the studies for the 1956-1980 period made by other investigators. The spatial and temporal distributions of fishing effort, catch, apparent abundance, sexual maturity, and size composition are examined for the principal species of tunas and billfishes taken by that fishery. The interaction between the surface and longline fisheries is discussed. Se examinan las distribuciones especial y temporal de les fuerzo de pesca, la captura, la abundancia aparente, la madurez sexual, y la composición por talla de las principales especies de atunes y picudos capturadas por dicha pesquería. Spin of the ground state and the flux phase problem on the ring
As a continuation of our previous work, we derive the optimal flux phase
which minimizes the ground state energy in the one-dimensional many particle
systems, when the number of particles is odd in the absence of on-site
interaction and external potential. Moreover, we study the relationship between
the flux on the ring and the spin of the ground state through which we derive
some information on the sum of the lowest eigenvalues of one-particle
Hamiltonians
An Improved Search Method for Gravitational Ringing of Black Holes
A black hole has characteristic quasi-normal modes that will be excited when
it is formed or when the geometry is perturbed. The state of a black hole when
the quasi-normal modes are excited is called the gravitational ringing, and
detections of it will be a direct confirmation of the existence of black holes.
To detect it, a method based on matched filtering needs to be developed.
Generically, matched filtering requires a large number of templates, because
one has to ensure a proper match of a real gravitational wave with one of
template waveforms to keep the detection efficiency as high as possible. On the
other hand, the number of templates must be kept as small as possible under
limited computational costs. In our previous paper, assuming that the
gravitational ringing is dominated by the least-damped (fundamental) mode with
the least imaginary part of frequency, we constructed an efficient method for
tiling the template space. However, the dependence of the template space metric
on the initial phase of a wave was not taken into account. This dependence
arises because of an unavoidable mismatch between the parameters of a signal
waveform and those given discretely in the template space. In this paper, we
properly take this dependence into account and present an improved, efficient
search method for gravitational ringing of black holes.Comment: 19 pages, 9 figure
Scaling Relation for Excitation Energy Under Hyperbolic Deformation
We introduce a one-parameter deformation for one-dimensional (1D) quantum
lattice models, the hyperbolic deformation, where the scale of the local energy
is proportional to cosh lambda j at the j-th site. Corresponding to a 2D
classical system, the deformation does not strongly modify the ground state. In
this situation, the effective Hamiltonian of the quantum system shows that the
quasi particle is weakly bounded around the center of the system. By analyzing
this binding effect, we derive scaling relations for the mean-square width
of confinement, the energy correction with respect to the excitation gap
\Delta, and the deformation parameter . This finite-size scaling
allows us to investigate excitation gap of 1D non-deformed bulk quantum
systems.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure
Ring Formation in Magnetically Subcritical Clouds and Multiple Star Formation
We study numerically the ambipolar diffusion-driven evolution of
non-rotating, magnetically subcritical, disk-like molecular clouds, assuming
axisymmetry. Previous similar studies have concentrated on the formation of
single magnetically supercritical cores at the cloud center, which collapse to
form isolated stars. We show that, for a cloud with many Jeans masses and a
relatively flat mass distribution near the center, a magnetically supercritical
ring is produced instead. The supercritical ring contains a mass well above the
Jeans limit. It is expected to break up, through both gravitational and
possibly magnetic interchange instabilities, into a number of supercritical
dense cores, whose dynamic collapse may give rise to a burst of star formation.
Non-axisymmetric calculations are needed to follow in detail the expected ring
fragmentation into multiple cores and the subsequent core evolution.
Implications of our results on multiple star formation in general and the
northwestern cluster of protostars in the Serpens molecular cloud core in
particular are discussed.Comment: 25 pages, 4 figures, to appear in Ap
^{75}As NMR study of the growth of paramagnetic-metal domains due to electron doping near the superconducting phase in LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x}
We studied the electric and magnetic behavior near the phase boundary between
antiferromagnetic (AF) and superconducting (SC) phases for a prototype of
high-T_c pnictides LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x} by using nuclear magnetic resonance, and
found that paramagnetic-metal (PM) domains segregate from AF domains. PM
domains grow in size with increasing electron doping level and are accompanied
by the onset of superconductivity, and thus application of pressure or
increasing the doping level causes superconductivity. The existence of PM
domains cannot be explained by the existing paradigm that focuses only on the
relationship between superconductivity and antiferromagnetism. Based on orbital
fluctuation theory, the existence of PM domains is evidence of the
ferroquadrupole state.Comment: 5 figure
