______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThis work aimed to evaluate the power production potential of syngas produced through the eucalyptus gasification. Three species were used: E. urophylla, E. grandis and E urograndis. The gasifier was an updraft reactor with air as gasifier agent. Characterization of high heat value, proximate analysis and ultimate analysis of all species were performed and results compared to literature data and predicting models of high heat value of biomass, since it’s the most important parameter to any thermochemical processes. Also all species materials that were gasified had its density determined. The quality of syngas was determined by gas chromatography (GC/TCD) in terms of concentration of H2, CO and CO2. Analysis of characterization data showed that E. urograndis has a lower high heat value, higher ash content and lower hydrogen content than the other species. The other properties have been considered statistically non different between all species studied. Therefore no significant difference is expected in the yield of tars due to the close volatile content. Also no significant difference is expected in the quality of the syngas due to the close relation C/H and fixed carbon content of studied species. A lower yield of syngas can occur during the gasification of E. urograndis due to its lower high heat value. Although some statistical differences have been observed between species properties, none had notable influence in the syngas quality not only because of the little difference between the species, but also because of the gasifier’s robustly and syngas analysis method that was able to analyze only punctually and timely spaced samples of the process. The syngas quality was similar to literature’s data for biomass gasification in fixed bed gasifier and its high heat value is estimated to be between 4 – 6 MJ/Nm³. And its technical viability for power production was proved
RETROPERITONEAL FIBROSARCOMA WITH DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS ON GROWTH P ATTERN AND FINDINGS IN DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING
A 47-year-old man with lumbago had been found to have a perirenal hematoma at the lower pole of the left kidney on CT. MR imaging also demonstrated a hematoma,8 X8X9αn in size. After 1-month observation, the mass had very rapidly increased in size, suggesting it to be a neoplasm. Consequent surgery resulted in noncurative tumor extirpation, because of invasion to the descending colon, left kidney and surrounding tissues. Histlogically, the tumor consisted of uniform spindle-shaped cells with interlacing solid and bundle forms, showing a herring-bone pattern.
Immunohistochemical studies finally led to the diagnosis of fibrosarcoma with markedly
high malignant potential. Additional therapy was not performed. Rapid local spread of
the tumor was demonstrated when bowel obstruction developed 2 months later. The
patient died of the disease 3 months after surgery. No distant metastasis was observed
throughout the clinical course
Up-regulation of protein serine/threonine phosphatase type 2C during 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3-induced monocytic differentiation of leukemic HL-60 cells
AbstractTreatment with 20 nM 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3) caused a progressive increase in the activity of Mg2+-dependent protein serine/threonine phosphatase type 2C (PP2C) in subcellular fractions of HL-60 cells, whereas PP2C activity was relatively constant throughout all-trans retinoic acid-induced (1 μM) granulocytic differentiation. The increase in PP2C activity appeared to parallel the 1,25(OH)2D3-induced phenotypic and functional changes in HL-60 cells. Immunoblot and Northern blot analysis indicated that the increase in PP2C activity corresponded to the increased expression of PP2C protein, which was preceded by an increase in the level of mRNA for PP2Cβ. No mRNA for PP2Cα was detected in resting or 1,25(OH)2D3-stimulated HL-60 cells. These results suggest that the increased expression of PP2C is related with the 1,25(OH)2D3-induced monocytic differentiation of HL-60 cells

Calculated Tumor Volume Is an Independent Predictor of Biochemical Recurrence in Patients Who Underwent Retropubic Radical Prostatectomy
Purpose. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the clinicopathological biopsy findings can predict the oncological outcome in patients who undergo radical prostatectomy. Materials and Methods. Between January 1997 and March 2006, 255 patients with clinically localized adenocarcinoma of the prostate (clinical T1-3N0M0) who had undergone retropubic radical prostatectomy were enrolled in this study. None of the patients received neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy. Clinicopathological parameters were assessed to determine a predictive parameter of biochemical recurrence. Results. Of the total 255 patients, 77 showed biochemical recurrence during the follow-up period. The estimated 5-year overall survival, 5-year cause-specific survival, and 5-year biochemical recurrence-free survival rates were 97.7%, 99.5%, and 67.3%, respectively. Multivariate analysis using the Cox proportional hazards model showed that calculated cancer volume was an independent predictor among the preoperative clinicopathological parameters (P < 0.05). SVI and PSM were independent predictors among the postoperative parameters (SVI; P < 0.001, PSM; P = 0.049). Among the significant preoperative and postoperative parameters, calculated cancer volume remained an independent predictive parameter in multivariate analysis (P < 0.01). Conclusions. Tumor volume, as calculated by preoperative parameters, is an independent predictor of biochemical recurrence in patients who had undergone radical prostatectomy

Heparan sulfate proteoglycan syndecan-1, CD138, is known to be associated with cell proliferation, adhesion, and migration in malignancies. We previously reported that syndecan-1 (CD138) may contribute to urothelial carcinoma cell survival and progression. We investigated the role of heparanase, an enzyme activated by syndecan-1 in human urothelial carcinoma. Using human urothelial cancer cell lines, MGH-U3 and T24, heparanase expression was reduced with siRNA and RK-682, a heparanase inhibitor, to examine changes in cell proliferation activity, induction of apoptosis, invasion ability of cells, and its relationship to autophagy. A bladder cancer development mouse model was treated with RK-682 and the bladder tissues were examined using immunohistochemical analysis for Ki-67, E-cadherin, LC3, and CD31 expressions. Heparanase inhibition suppressed cellular growth by approximately 40% and induced apoptosis. The heparanase inhibitor decreased cell activity in a concentration-dependent manner and suppressed invasion ability by 40%. Inhibition of heparanase was found to suppress autophagy. In N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl) nitrosamine (BBN)-induced bladder cancer mice, treatment with heparanase inhibitor suppressed the progression of cancer by 40%, compared to controls. Immunohistochemistry analysis showed that heparanase inhibitor suppressed cell growth, and autophagy. In conclusion, heparanase suppresses apoptosis and promotes invasion and autophagy in urothelial cancer.博士(医学)・乙第1506号・令和3年3月15日© 2020 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. Thin shell aerogel fabrication for FIREX-I targets using high viscosity (phloroglucinol carboxylic acid)/formaldehyde solution
金沢大学先端科学・社会共創推進機構Capsules with a thin aerogel shell were prepared by the OO/W/OI emulsion process. (Phloroglucinol carboxylic acid)/formaldehyde (PF) was used as the water phase (W) solution to form the shell of the capsule. PF is a linear polymer prepared from phloroglucinol carboxylic acid. The viscosity of the PF solution can reach a high level of 9×10-5 m2/s without gelation while resorcinol/formaldehyde (RF) gelates at ∼ 3-4×10-5 m2/s. Using the viscous PF solution, capsule with a 17μm gel shell was fabricated. This thickness satisfies the specification of the first phase of Fast Ignition Realization Experiment (FIREX-I) at Osaka University. When PF gel was extracted to remove the organic solvent, shrinkage of 9% occurred. The final density of the PF aerogel was 145μmg/cm3. Both the shell thickness and density can satisfy the specification of FIREX-I. The pore size of the PF aerogel was less than 100μnm while that of RF was 200-500μnm. The SEM showed that PF had particle-like foam structure while RF had fibrous-like foam structure. © 2008 Copyright Cambridge University Press 2008
