Gender and Interest Targeting for Sponsored Post Advertising at Tumblr

As one of the leading platforms for creative content, Tumblr offers advertisers a unique way of creating brand identity. Advertisers can tell their story through images, animation, text, music, video, and more, and promote that content by sponsoring it to appear as an advertisement in the streams of Tumblr users. In this paper we present a framework that enabled one of the key targeted advertising components for Tumblr, specifically gender and interest targeting. We describe the main challenges involved in development of the framework, which include creating the ground truth for training gender prediction models, as well as mapping Tumblr content to an interest taxonomy. For purposes of inferring user interests we propose a novel semi-supervised neural language model for categorization of Tumblr content (i.e., post tags and post keywords). The model was trained on a large-scale data set consisting of 6.8 billion user posts, with very limited amount of categorized keywords, and was shown to have superior performance over the bag-of-words model. We successfully deployed gender and interest targeting capability in Yahoo production systems, delivering inference for users that cover more than 90% of daily activities at Tumblr. Online performance results indicate advantages of the proposed approach, where we observed 20% lift in user engagement with sponsored posts as compared to untargeted campaigns.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, Proceedings of the 21th ACM SIGKDD International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD 2015), Sydney, Australi

Magnetization behaviour of electrodeposited Ni–Mn alloys

    No full text
Ni–Mn alloys were electrodeposited from acidic sulphate baths and their magnetization behaviour was studied so as to understand the effects of the bath composition and deposition current density. The magnetic properties of alloys are very sensitive to Ni:Mn ratio in the bath as well as the current density. Increase in particle size causes a significant drop in the magnetization

    Microstructure of electrodeposited Ni-Mn coatings

    No full text
Ni-Mn alloys were electrodeposited on stainless steel substrates from simple sulphate baths with ammonium sulphate as the additive. The influence of Ni/Mn metal ratio (in the bath) on microstructure of the coatings was investigated with colour polarisation optical microscopy. The most homogeneous and textured deposit was obtained with a Ni/Mn metal ratio of 0.67. Ni/Mn metal ratio of above 6.0 introduced surface roughness in the coating. Multiphase deposits were obtained with a Ni/Mn metal ratio in the range 1.0 to 3.0. Monophase deposits could be plated only from baths with a Ni/Mn metal ratio of 0.67 to 0.93. In three cases, unique microstructures were observe

Transmission coordination for ad hoc networks

    No full text
AHNs are wireless networks operating without the benefits of network infrastructure (basestations) or centralized control. AHNs working with limited spectrum perform best when simultaneous transmissions are coordinated to avoid collisions. Optimal transmission coordination is a combinatorial optimization problem that is, in general, intractable for large size networks, even with global information and central control. Constraints on simultaneous transmissions may arise from both transceiver limitations (e.g., half-duplex designs) and from requirements on the signal to interference ratio. We study the transmission coordination optimization problem under a variety of natural communication constraints. Our work identifies particular instances where the problem may be solved by greedy algorithms, and studies the performance of several natural heuristic solutions

Post COVID pulmonary complications – A case series

    No full text
COVID-19 patients are frequently coinfected by other microbial pathogens, adding to the severity of the cases and raising difficulty in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. Pulmonary mucormycosis and invasive Aspergillosis are such life-threatening fungal infections. Risk factors include uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, hematological malignancies, solid organ transplantation, and chronic renal failure. Pulmonary emboli and pneumothorax have also been reported frequently in COVID-19 patients, especially in those who required invasive mechanical ventilation. Herein, we report four different cases of post COVID pulmonary complications. All four patients were evaluated with computed tomography thorax. Two patients had necrotizing pneumonia and sputum culture grew mucor and Aspergillus species, respectively. They were treated with intravenous antifungals. One patient had rifampicin-sensitive pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and was started on antitubercular drugs. Both pulmonary mucormycosis and pulmonary TB patients had a segmental and subsegmental pulmonary embolism. They were managed with low-molecular-weight heparin. One patient had left pneumothorax, for which intercostal drainage was placed

Studying the STA effects on aluminium alloy joints by friction welding

    No full text
This article examines the properties of joints fabricated by friction welding (FW) using AA6061-T6 and AA7075 as examples of both similar and dissimilar metals. It also looks at how heat treatment after welding affects the metallurgical characteristics of the joint. The heat treatment method under investigation combines solutionizing heat treatment with synthetic ageing (STA). The tensile characteristics, microhardness, and microstructure of the as-welded and STA-treated welded specimens are assessed in the paper using mechanical testing equipment and metallurgical characterization methods. The findings demonstrate that the joint characteristics are enhanced by precipitate nucleation occurring in the joint interface of the FW similar and dissimilar joint under STA treatment. On the other hand, the STA influence on the tensile strength (TS) of joints made with AA7075 was greater than that of similar joints made with AA6061-T6, as well as dissimilar joints made with both AA6061-T6 and AA7075. Additionally, after STA treatment, the similar joints showed a uniform distribution of hardness. However, in the dissimilar joint after STA treatment, the hardness dropped suddenly on the AA6061-T6 side, specifically from the partially deformed zone (PDZ) towards the heat affected zone (HAZ).</p

Benefits of Traffic Engineering using QoS Routing Schemes and Network Controls

    No full text
We demonstrate the benefits of traffic engineering by studying three realistic network models derived from an actual service provider network. We evaluate traffic engineering in the presence of QoS-based routing schemes compared with the destination-based routing, the default routing behavior for the Internet. We also simulate prioritization of important traffic flows by implementing priority in one or more of the path caching, path ordering, and actual route selection phases of the constraint-based routing framework. We observe that traffic engineering can provide 20% to 50 % network capacity savings. We also observe that prioritization in more than one phase of constraint-based routing can provide even more significant benefits. Key words: Traffic engineering, constraint-based routing, quality of service routing.
